Well I can see the area in question without any darkening or anything else done to the picture. I am on the West Coast of Washington state. I took a pic last year around Aug. & I found something odd at this same position, almost. You can see the images on my page if you like. Lens flare maybe, but I used a piece of welding glass in front of my camera to take some of the pics & nothing in front of the camera to take a few of them.
