You are still alot better off in the USA. As long as you have a work ethic, you will do more than fine, regardless of what the economic picture says, they are always just fleeting pictures of our economy. I remember we had so- called "hard times" in the 70's and then again in the 80's. I was born and raised here and I have seen numbers of immigrants come here and not only "make it" and a HUGE number of them have done VERY WELL because of HARD WORK and determination. It's hard in the beginning.
I propose the US government give the DV lottery winners a million bucks in addition to the green card to keep their asses happy!!! What more can you ask? I mean the woman can't even speak English, now she's complaining that their credentials don't count? Just stop bitching and try to be a winner in life instead of excepting the whole world to make everything ready for your ass.
this is pointless. the hardest country in the world to get into has just given you the right to live and work freely in their country (government jobs exlcuding), then the option of gaining citizenship after 3/5 years... do you want them to hold your hand, go on recruitment websites, get you a house, feed you, and wipe you ass too?!?! you are a bg enough boy or girl to apply for the DV, now be a big boy or girl, and go look for a job!

America haters, please don't come here. The opportunity is real, but not for everybody. Hard work will be rewarded. Only one unwritten rule, you have to be fluent in English. I came here 15 years ago and am now a millionaire, and my education was not recognized either.
A few years back i was thinking about trying this green card thingy, but after giving it some long thinking and researching i decided to stay in my lovely 3rd world country! smart choice! (sorry driving a taxi or flipping burgers doesnt suit me :/ )..now after a lot of hard work and sweat i have a good life with a good job and pay , a life that i know many people in the "land of dreams" don't have! ..but i'll still come to the states someday hopefully, as a TOURIST.
Enjoy, working free for America (untrustworthy nation ).You maybe better off at your birth country,As they say grass always look greener on the other side.Americans (foxy, selfish people ) never like to pay ,as their own greed being higher than yours.
every immigrant goes through the same thing. Apparently ,that lady couldn't even speak the language. My mother didn't even finish middle school and yet she went to school to learn English, worked hard and saved whatever she could and now she owns her own home. There's no freebie here. You've gotta earn it.
@AgentPepsi1 : You have to work hard wherever you live. There is no "land of opportunity" where the "opportunities" magically drop out of the sky without any preparation or effort. Russian currency might be worth a lot less than the USD but their unemployment rates are much lower than US unemployment rates (just over half). Live in a village 1000km East of Moscow, work hard, and you're almost guaranteed employment with a basic living wage.
I agree with you. But it also depends on what you want out of life and the quality of life. Personally, having vacationed in Russia (which in the parts I have seen is a very pretty country), I would much rather be poor in the USA than in the CIS. Ask yourself, why so many of Obama's primary constituency, under-educated Blacks and others on welfare, are so incredibly obese. You do have to work hard, and some immigrants do not understand this.
@MatthewofCambridge I'm sorry but what kind of a job was she expecting to get in States if she can't speak English??? Seriously wtf.. Yes she's got a degree in milking goats from great university of nepal, she can't speak English and she was expecting to come and live nicely on government handouts - that was her American dream. It's pathetic. And by the way it's not 60s, there is no propaganda of the kind you mentioned, if anything there is much more propaganda against West rather than pro.
@mikki85 : I have no idea what degree this woman has but I share the disgust of some other folk here that she didn't even bother (or learn) to speak English for this news interview. Or else, she spoke English with such a thick dialect/accent that it's not recognisable as English and still requires translation/ voice-over. This is certainly not a sign of her respect for the people among whom she has apparently lived for several years. OTOH it only underlines the stupidity of the visa lottery.
@mikki85 : As for propaganda, it didn't escape my attention that this video is from Russia Today. This whole YouTube page might be regarded as Russian propaganda designed to counteract the implicit American propaganda that the visa lottery itself is designed to subtly promote. The American politicians/ State Department are trying to perpetuate an unsustainable economic system that is being propped up by immigration of young, fit, intelligent, rich Russians. The Russians don't want that, do they?
Personally I live in Britain and I have met plenty of people in similar positions to those in this video. Many Africans die trying to get into Europe, dreaming of an easy life or running away from trouble and hoping to use their skills & education; and those who make it here often end up disregarded, ignored and forgotten by the British; and furthermore disconnected from their own communities. At least we're a little more humane than the Americans, who don't appear to understand these issues.
@MsUoykcuf: you're behind the times! Timothy Geithner is now asking the U.S. Congress to INCREASE their $14.3 billion legal debt ceiling. He expects they will be defaulting on debt repayment obligations in two months time if they don't.
- If you already had your credit cards "maxed out" and you asked your credit card company for a substantial credit limit increase, would they agree? NO WAY. But it's an easier decision for Congress, asking the Federal "Reserve" to lend money to themselves.
not only is not worth it,...INS has become a money making thieves machine. they charge u a "nonrefundable" ton of rip off money for any paper you submit.
its the only country where if u applied for something and being denied for any reason you won't get your money back. and the fact that u apply for something u already qualified for and make u wait for ages and can be denied for no reason and never get your money back.. its an immigrant rip off money making mafia system none the less!
This is the American way, you come here with nothing, and you make something of yourself. As the government doesn't help you because, "Laissez Faire". Instead of Europe, where couch potatoes sit on their fat asses and collect money from the gov.
Boo fucking hoo. If its so bad then go back to where you came from. There are plenty of Americans who have it just as bad if not worst than people in 3rd world countries and they would love to have a job in a grocery store or driving a cab. I never even heard of this lottery. As far as immigration goes, we need to revert our policies to those of the early 20th century. And due to the insane amount of immigrants coming over the last 50 years, we should cut immigration off completely for a while.
This is the story of my family, we came to America fearing the collapse of the Soviet Union will leave us in poverty. We came to live in a better place, to get the American Dream.... Now we live in poverty.
@kevlarunderware : You can use the internet from a phone booth, or free of charge in many public buildings. Using the internet is no sure indication of wealth.
@m00se321 i would like to know what kind of jobs they have in south africa and what is the basic wage of a decent job there? and do they have decent food store where i can by produce for my family? and can i get decent apartment with good living conditions and a car? and what about the crime and schools? please give me some understanding to your region. i want to get out of USA im african american and cant stand it in this racist country of thieves
why do these guys see america as some holy land or something...it really isnt a perfect place..try canada,england,australia,germany,france...n a few other good places
@Celticlight1 : Some Americans appear to. If you listened to an American 24-hour news channel for more than an hour, I reckon you'd hear the term at least once; either from:
1. Some corporation advertising their products promising you the "American dream" if you give them your money;
2. A politician asking you to help them "protect" the "American dream" because it is "threatened" by the other party,
3. A gullible American who believes that America has a corner on aspiration itself.
"if i knew what its like wouldn't have come" well go back to your fucking country and dont pollute the air you ungrateful bitch! so many people wish they could get a green card. she should get kicked out,
@mikki85 : Yes, "so many people" believe the propaganda, and are fully prepared to be kicked in the teeth. There will be plenty more willing, young, fit, well-educated people to replace her when you've thrown her on the garbage heap. There are plenty more people's hopes to dash, without apparent consequences for your "own" people (the children of immigrants) After all, America is so small compared with the rest of the world that you've got a virtually never-ending supply of willing immigrants.
Just like my family. My mother has 20 years experience in medical field. if she had that here, she would pay my tuition for university like if it was a joke... however now I have to take quarters off just so I can help her get the ends meet
Seriously the only reason why we're not returning back is because I have started my education career already and I'd simply lose those years if I return home without finishing this... most of americans dont get it, even some immigrants wont...
@goddifist its a land where the smart are not held back the losers you use culture to protect them from anarchy where the smart survive and the weak perish. that's why I love America. It is free from culture in business.
@redrajani : American bureaucrats will always find an excuse for giving preferential treatment to their "own" people. They welcome you through the front door with your "green card" because the law says they must; but you won't have privilege there as a foreigner, even if you work your legs off for it.
The American dream - a universal meritocracy? It's STILL a dream.
Let's create a true meritocracy in our own part of the world, even if the Americans lose sight of their "dream".
@HOBOTCZARANDCO If they can't contribute without help they should go the fuck home. Millions of Americans are without jobs and importing foreigners without skills or capital is not helping. (And for all the bleeding hearts, fuck you. I live outside America in Asia and the governments over here wouldn't piss on me if I was on fire. Every year I have to justify my right to a visa even though I have invested substantial amounts in the country and am married to a local citizen. Get help, never)
@HOBOTCZARANDCO how would you like it if all you ever wanted to do was go to Barcelona Spain to skate, but you couldn't when you got there because of the high demanding, selfish government, where the term customer service hardly exists anymore, where it's credit this, and hassle that. i'm sure it's a lot more chill somewhere else. but, yea don't go to new york anyway.. lol

@SunBeamsan - Too right. The U.S. government's agenda is mainly organised at the behest of corporate lobbyists (campaign donors). Your system of debating, your procedural rules for how your government operates (e.g. filibuster and pork-barrel), your "checks and balances"; they're often used as a front by corrupt politicians who pretend that the framers of the U.S. constitution created a system under God that is impervious to any form of corruption. I wish it was true - I guess I can "dream".
@ElConquistador24 lol i'm with @SunBeamsan and for that reason we the U.S.A Will not collapse nor fail. p.s these people are all newfags I found a job in NYC Paying 100k+ they are just not smart enough.
They, like almost all developed countries, do require you have a proper education from a source consider accredited in that nation before you can do anything that "requires skill". It's one of many things anybody should look into before moving to any country...
@Truthiness231 : America is supposed to be a meritocracy, where any hard-working honest person can succeed; is it not? Is this not what the "American Dream" is all about? Would you honestly say that the participants in this "green card lottery" program have not been led to believe this version of the American Dream?
Should you not (as part of this purported meritocracy) recognise legitimate qualifications earned by hard-working people from other parts of the world?
@MatthewOfCambridge ROFL, a meritocracy? It may have been that way at some point in some degree for some people (skin and religion and class and family included), but not in my lifetime. We have capitalism: whoever has the most leverage and/or can get the greatest market advantage by whatever means wins, and everyone else is employed by one of those "winners". I think it's the same system much of the rest of the Western world adopted.
At that: they have pay for a US diploma like the rest of us.
@gordogreen They won't allow Americans to get ahead. They resent and try to take any inheritance tax, to equalize for minorities, they call it 'white privilege'
@wahahn we exploit Mexico so what's ur problem? Canadians come here by the tons, they bring their entire families and have jobs in the 60-100,000 dollar range, quite different than Mexicans working their tail ends off in horrid conditions for 5/hr. We ship off good jobs and exploit people by putting factories that contaminate their enviroment. "We" don't but US backed corporations. Where do u think Silicon Valley went? Xsrael.
The US is just a fasade made of cheap glitter and empty promises. The people arrive and walk through the fasade only to find a steaming pile of garbage 20 feet high and a whole lot of rats.
@scottandildi : Before going there they are shown episodes of "Dynasty". After arriving, they are shown the trailer park where they'll be living for the next five years. America's government is learning the tricks of the trade from America's corporations...
yeah, please stop coming here - we dont need your dregs....its what fucked this country up partially.....get out of here and let us rebuild this country without the scum.
Yeh get a broke government to pay for it - what a load of BS - whats the bet that bitch gets her "upwardly global" get funding from the government for her PC crap.
Jeremiah 51:9--We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
@PeanutButterAndZorg : I'm already seeing increasing immigration of U.S. and even Canadian citizens into Britain. Many of them seem to think life is better here.
You don't know how very unfunny that is going to be. The Gypsy's got mass slaughtered during Hitler's genocide, and now the "American" people are going to replace the Jews/Gypsy's of WW2.
People want to leave the USA. That's why there is a huge tax and legal affair if you want to renounce citizenship. If you don't renounce citizenship, you are expected to pay income taxes on money you made abroad while living abroad. None of it belongs to the IRS of course but you're still expected to pay it.
@harveybirdmannequin : Morally speaking, it may not belong to the U.S. IRS; but the U.S. government sometimes appears to think they are a global government in the making. The USA is considered by many to be the second incarnation of the British Empire (a global trade-based empire with political, religious and ideological undertones, that once collected taxes in one form or another from 1/4 of the world's population and land-mass. Ironically, the reason for America's original secession...)
In some ways this point of view can be justified since the U.S. provides useful services many other governments cannot (such as real naval security off the Horn of Africa.)
I might become a U.S. citizen but for all I know, my grandchildren might be drafted into the U.S. military to fight another Vietnam so that the U.S. "military industrial complex" can benefit from another financial windfall.
A better life of freedom and plenty? A land of peace and integrity? It might become such, one day...
Can you prove that your ancestors didn't come to the USA during a period of recession? That was actually a fairly common economic state during the height of immigration from 1870-1910.
Even if no, do you think everyone whose ancestors did immigrate during those periods should be deported or something, since back then, they were "taking" from "Real Americans"?
@scottandildi Oh really? And what special rights are those? From my point of view foreigners work 2x as hard as the citizens do, for 1/2 the price. Why do you think they migrant workers coming every year by the thousands? Could it be because the "citizens" refuse do do much of the manual jobs and feel a sense of entitlement???
@larasa007 That's a lie. There are plenty of white blue collar Americans who are labor workers, if u r counting the gold chain caddilac druggies in the ghetto's then yeah.
@TheAmazingamerica Well I live in Texas, and each and every year local farmers can't get anyone to help them on the ranches so they have no alternative but to go Migrant workers. I do agree there are many white blue collar workers who are labor and mostly working in construction but for some reason farmers can't seem to attract any local workers on the farms. Maybe its the long hours, or the dirty job, pay is not bad, but the long hours i suppose no one wants to do them.
@larasa007 I say that because foreigners get free medical, dental, and eye care and food stamps and free housing and citizens get shit when they lose their jobs. That is why people are pouring into the US. They want a free ride. I was born in the US and I worked along side alot of good mexican guys for 15 years making the same money they did and the same 70 hours per week that they did. When I lost my job I got shit and they got free everything. That's why I moved to Europe. Adios assholos!
@scottandildi Those mexicans don't live in a big house with a large screen tv, there are literally 20 of them in a tiny apartment. They don't own a large suv. They don't have credit cards. They save every penny. The know how to live without the luxury. When you're out of work and you see them smiling, it's not because they're getting something from the gov't, it's because they have their savings to fall back on.
ha :) no offense to americans, but why people come there ? :) now there's is no jobs, and country owe more then it have and even more then it cost :) Soon everybody from there is going to come in our country's
when you are in your country and see the images on TV seems like a dream to you but in reality when you arrive in america the picture is all dark with thunder and a big buy dress all black with a mask on and a whip ( IRS , FED... ) time to head to your local state plantation ...
I fled the USSA. I lived in Minnesota (I have two bachelors degrees (Spanish and Law Enforcement and I was a certified EMT). I worked in the field. I saw the US crumbling fast naming everyone a terrorist (even people who are just Ron Paul supporters, Anti Federal Reserve people, and Constitution believers). I took my life to Germany and life is much better here. My sister-in-law moved to Georgia (she married an American, she is German...she is highly educated but only can find part time work)
@msungs see , i told u socialism is better than american corporate fascism. congrats. more americans should choose Socialism ! you should have chosen Belorussia instead, Germany is still under american occupation, u never know when the u.s. shuts down German Socialism... move to Belorussia, my advise.

@msungs - She can always get a job as a gov't contractor. Seems like everyone I talk to these days are gov't contractors. The country has gone to shit bro. How is your move to Germany been?
@Stipetic Ja, an invitation to poverty, low paying jobs, crime infested (ghetto) neighborhoods, poor transportation, and a life on welfare. It's just not for me. I would laugh if the US invited me to move back. You have to be a fool to move there.
Here is an American dream.Came here from nothing, LABOR(not work)for 25 yrs to buy a home and owner of a contraction & auto repair business with employees.Scare of having kid due to welfare.25 yrs later DHS want us to leave the country, cause we remain permanent resident and not US citizen. Now all employee are fire(no work) business is sold@lost.Can`t sell home cause it below value(another lost).WILL/MUST leave country in 2 months.Sound like an American scream.be sure American Will scream.
Cry moar - like it isnt enough to come to the USA for the opportunity, now they want to bitch that they dont get on the dole too? FFS, stay the fuck out of the country then. Oh, and if ya hadnt noticed, we have 30M people out of work currently, maybe the immigrants should stay home or go somewhere "better". (Like Russia - thats some lulzy shit right there). Fucking propaganda channel.
@AmsterdamHeavy 1 i agree the propaganda channel, but still, people who take teir oppertunities to come to the usa expect their studies to pay of it's kind of deception for people to come and take low paying jobs
Fuck, give your green card to me if you don't want it.

MatthewOfCambridge 1 year ago
@MsUoykcuf: you're behind the times! Timothy Geithner is now asking the U.S. Congress to INCREASE their $14.3 billion legal debt ceiling. He expects they will be defaulting on debt repayment obligations in two months time if they don't.
- If you already had your credit cards "maxed out" and you asked your credit card company for a substantial credit limit increase, would they agree? NO WAY. But it's an easier decision for Congress, asking the Federal "Reserve" to lend money to themselves.

@Celticlight1 : Some Americans appear to. If you listened to an American 24-hour news channel for more than an hour, I reckon you'd hear the term at least once; either from:
1. Some corporation advertising their products promising you the "American dream" if you give them your money;
2. A politician asking you to help them "protect" the "American dream" because it is "threatened" by the other party,
3. A gullible American who believes that America has a corner on aspiration itself.

In a "democratic" system the only possible long-term outcome of this economic system is:
1. Profligate spending, to placate the voters who demand a cut of the government's "wealth";
2. Excessive debt burdens;
3. Entrapment of foreign creditors into supporting the "status quo",
4. Precipitous decline in creditor confidence
5. A long-lasting economic depression
The U.S. government needs to turn back from the edge of the cliff, before it's too late. Dancing along the cliff-tops is not a good idea.

@Truthiness231 : America is supposed to be a meritocracy, where any hard-working honest person can succeed; is it not? Is this not what the "American Dream" is all about? Should you not (as part of this purported meritocracy) recognise legitimate qualifications earned by hard-working people from other parts of the world?
MatthewOfCambridge 1 year ago
@MatthewOfCambridge ROFL, a meritocracy? It may have been that way at some point in some degree for some people (skin and religion and class and family included), but not in my lifetime. We have capitalism: whoever has the most leverage and/or can get the greatest market advantage by whatever means wins, and everyone else is employed by one of those "winners". People want to leave the USA. That's why there is a huge tax and legal affair if you want to renounce citizenship. If you don't renounce citizenship, you are expected to pay income taxes on money you made abroad while living abroad. None of it belongs to the IRS of course but you're still expected to pay it.
harveybirdmannequin 1 year ago
@harveybirdmannequin : Morally speaking, it may not belong to the U.S. IRS; but the U.S. government sometimes appears to think they are a global government in the making. The USA is considered by many to be the second incarnation of the British Empire (a global trade-based empire with political, religious and ideological undertones, that once collected taxes in one form or another from 1/4 of the world's population and land-mass. Ironically, the reason for America's original secession...)
MatthewOfCambridge 1 year ago

S201676 1 year ago
@worldsailor128 Not anymore unfortunately. The foreigners have more rights than citizens do now.
scottandildi 1 year ago
@scottandildi Oh really? And what special rights are those? From my point of view foreigners work 2x as hard as the citizens do, for 1/2 the price. @larasa007 Yes, maybe that and I'm guessing because it is temporary work. Of I was a guy I think I would love to farm.
TheAmazingamerica 1 year ago
@larasa007 I say that because foreigners get free medical, dental, and eye care and food stamps and free housing and citizens get shit when they lose their jobs. That is why people are pouring into the US. They want a free ride. I was born in the US and I worked along side alot of good mexican guys for 15 years making the same money they did and the same 70 hours per week that they did. When I lost my job I got shit and they got free everything. That's why I moved to Europe. Adios assholos!
