come on you got to give him credit man. Ive never seen anyone split lanes at 45 mph like that dude did...and I've spent a totally of 5 years on the 405 if you add up all the hours
@DoTheNeedful that was a hell of a split my man. Im about to buy a bike and start splitting lol Ill need some practice on the 40FUCK before I go that fast ... now Ill be able to go to the beach whenever I want and not have to worry about the piece of shit 10 being backed up since ill have a bike haha
@onefastz93 Lane splitting is not illegal in California. However I'm sure a cop would pull him over if he saw him doing this, for illegal lane changing.
@KaoskrewPB while cops will say it's a judgement call with no precise standard, the rule of thumb is up to 25mph over the speed of traffic, no more.
The rider is competent, as for "balls"? Well he's taking chances putting the need to get there fast before safely. When you split you put your life or limb in the hands of other motorists with no legal or monetary recourse for their actions if they change lanes without thinking of you first- and why should they?
@cas66ragtop i believe you are againts this lane spitting but t if you lived in california this is considered safe lane splitting, i personally do around 60mph when i split lanes, so does plenty of other bikes, it sounds dangerous but it wouldnt if you lived here, its etiquette.
@cas66ragtop You have to understand that this isn't something unexpected for the cars we split between. This is legal and a daily event. Sure it dangerous, but it's dangerous being in car in that traffic too.
Danger and risk is something you own yourself and only you can evaluate. While you wouldn't split lanes, I am willing to bet there is something you do (for fun or work) that I wouldn't do. As for putting our lives in danger, well we do that every day we wake up alive.
@cas66ragtop Thank you for removing your previous comment. I know you think this is somehow a bad name on the motorcycling community, but it is a fact of life in L.A. This was a daily commute home on the 405 to the 5 fwy. Starting from the 101/405 Interchange. Go look it up. I did this trek day in and day out, and on occasion followed a cop on a motorcycle. You must not be from California or you wouldn't be this upset about it. This was a busy day, but a normal day.
i don't understand... this is not insane... this is rather tame lane splitting with rather average LA traffic... perhaps you have not seen what insane lane splitting looks like... picture this going 90 down it.
for those who dont ride it looks like he is closer to the cars than he is so please stop with the omg hes a dangerous rider its skill mixed with quick decision making and for those beginners only ride to your skill and comfort level and you will be fine
I remember the first time I went to LA and got blasted by a bike splitting lanes.. Scared the shit out of me! Looks crazy, I can't imagine. But I guess it beats sitting in traffic. Why can't bikes use the shoulder like in mexico! Great video!
@knaxon This is a few years older than the Repsol versions. I have a CBR929, and I am sure you are right about the Repsol's being 1000's. Not sure how bad you want one, but I saw one at a dealer in San Antonio. Whatever you do, don't let this video, or others stop you from riding. I had been lane splitting for years when I filmed this. It was just a particularly bad day for traffic, and I happened to have my camera onboard. I wish I had something newer like a GoPro, but they didn't exist then.
@SuperCali1985 That would be nice. This was filmed with a camcorder mounted to the tank. I have moved from California since, so I won't be doing another one like this soon.
@GsxR750Speedemon i'm tellin' ya man that's what happens eventually. Shit just isn't worth it unless the cars are going 5mph or lower. 10 minutes of potentially saved time isn't worth the skull and crossbone treatment for you or just your bike
@GsxR750Speedemon Hope your friend is ok. Tell him to heal up. I did this for years commuting to work, and now have moved away so I don't have to lane split anymore. But yes, be careful out there folks. I had been doing this for years when I filmed this.
@watchmyshoes22 Well you have to be careful especially when there are open spaces coming up. It's kind of an art and you get a feel for it as you are doing it. It does happen though, and you just make sure you have your hand and foot ready to go with the brakes and clutch.
@watchmyshoes22 Well, the camera does make it look worse than it really is. When you are on the motorcycle you are constantly scanning ahead, and really the only place people can change lanes are when there's a large enough opening. You just be extra careful around those places. It does happen, and about 4:20 on the video a car pulls in front of me without even looking. I just hit the brakes slowed to avoid hitting them, and then went around them as soon as I had the room.
@watchmyshoes22 Nope. The only time I wanted to punch someone was when I had two cars that were side by side. As I came up behind them I saw them motion to each other. When I got to them, they pulled their cars together and put the hoods so close together I couldn't pass. The driver on the right had his window down, so I sat there and listened to them yell at me. When I took off and my exhaust got to his window, I pulled in the clutch and ran it to redline. That was just dangerous on their part.
@DoTheNeedful carry one of those miniature t-ball bats bro. It's what I'd do. If ego maniacs do something dangerous like that they deserve karma. As you finally pass act cool until you're level with their front bumper. "Hit a home run" on their hood and fly out of there. Be careful man. Live to ride
@lccs187 I Visited northern Cali, Lake Tahoe, Lake Topaz, Yosemite, 'Frisco, Golden Gate Bridge, Rt. 1, I-5(Hot as hell!! I literally baked the whole time. Shoulda kept to Rt. 1) and visited fam in LA. When I first tried it was weird. I really didn't need to lane split until I got to LA though. I saw a guy doing it and tailed him. The next 2 days was... words cant express... 5,005 mile round trip.(Took the long way thru Utah, Colorado, and Nevada.)
@Pizzleini I went up to Monterey one year and coming back there was a wreck on the 101 through Santa Barbara. Me and one other guy must have lane split for about 25 miles. It was horrible. One of us would lead for a while and then pull over and let the other guy lead. We must have switched lead about 5 times. I have been so happy to lane split and so happy to stop lane splitting at the same time. I bet some of those cars are still sitting on the freeway right now.
What kind of potato did you film this with?
