Over the past few years we've been rhyming with events from the late 1920s & early 1930s--not all in the same order, or with the exact same result, but the similarities are striking. If you're looking for stricter demarcation of genders, hang around for when we start rhyming with the late 1940s & early 1950s some time in the mid to late 2020s.

I doubt female lions hunting caribou ponder their roles overmuch. The only reason we can spend so much time questioning our gender roles now is due to scientific advances and supermarkets. If we reverted to farming by horse drawn plow tomorrow, I guarantee you would find a man behind almost all of them.

There have always been people who cross those social lines out of need or desire, but generally people had their roles and performed them.
