That's actually wrong... The inspiration for Canon Rock was from Kanon as you said, but Jerry arranged it into a rock version on Guitar whereas it was originally played on Violin and Piano I believe.

no...it's not based on a piano piece. It was written by Johann Pachelbel for three violins. The repeating bass part is cello or harpsichord...8 notes total (they repeat).
