God, Mr. Rochester can really make your heart fly with his grating voice and good looks :D, however, i can't understand one thing. In the book, Mr. Rochester was not considered handsome, in fact he was described as quite ugly, but maybe that's because the victorian notion of beauty was different :S, what do you guys think?
popstarchikiee.. my mum is always joking that all the actors i like are way older than me but i always come back with the point that it's not my fault all the talented ones are double my age!
i just can't believe people are soo obsessed with actors like rob pattinson and kristen stewart when there are actors like toby and ruth who hands down portray one of the most romantic relationships ever to be read or seen!!
haha I always like older actors too! The younger ones just don't do it for me...men usually seem to get better with age...lucky! Older guys are more talented from experience and come across as more mature and gentlemen-like, which is always appealing!! Not to mention more complex than all the boys :)
@fedsen24 Lol... My mum jokes me too... :) Its soo funny. She goes, i dont mind you marrying someone who is older than you but as long as they are fit i dont mind :P Just like when i watch older actors who are heart throbing i instantly get obsessed. My dream is to become an actress so hopefully some older fittie will notice me :P
why is it some of the younger boiz are not handsome and sometimes you get like the feeling where ur into the older actors like toby stevens, colin firth and hugh grant.. i know it sounds rong but its true! :)
There is supposed to be a huge age difference between them. in the book, thats one of the problems for them getting married...well besides the mad woman in his attic.
I've never heard Stephenie Meyer mention Jane Eyre. Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Romeo and Juliet, yes but never Jane Eyre. Not that it matters if she did or not. Twilight has nothing on Jane Eyre, or the aboved mentioned for that matter. Twilight is a fun story but it's not great literature and will never be in the same class as the above stories.
@Britin101 Meyer didn't compare Twilight to Jane Eyre, just mention that it's her favorite book and that she named Twilight Edward after Jane Eyre Edward.
@Britin101 actually, that's where Stephenie Meyer got Edward from. When she was thinking of names, she thought of Mr. Rochester and used his first name, Edward. Bella (Isabella) came from the daughter she never had.
LMAO! XDDDDD I got that impression too! My friends and I joked around that in the 1983 version all the stuff he was saying amounted to, "Damn you Jane, you've given me a boner."
Yeah, twilight is based on Jane Eyre (slightly lol) i can see some characteristics in Edward Cullen and Edward Roshester. And the whole "forbidden love story"
Although the Twilight series will never be as good as Jane Eyre! :)
=.= They are nothing a like. Only Rochester's passionate affection and need to constantly be with Jane would match Edwards; however, their personalities are absolutely nothing alike. Rochester is the very definition of what a man is like, Edward reminds me of a pubescent whiney boy DX

Ah, why does every character has to be named Edward. I mean, even in Twilight, the beautiful vampire is called Edward ... But the book is great, maybe not as great as pride and prejudice by Jane Austen, but close.
Did you know that Stephenie Meyer named her Edward after Mr. Rochester? Jane Eyre is one of her favorite books, too, and she said that some of Twilight was kinda based off of it.
i really really love the way Mr. Rochster love Jane.....the way he looks at her, the tricky way of reading Jane's mind by the "african gipsy" Edward- 'the silent killer of mind' . i'm loving it!
Hi there, does anyone know the name of the music theme or song which is heard at the beginning of the video and every time mr rochester remembers his past??
hm.. .it's a little bit disappointing that Jane only says "yes, sir" and "no, sir" all the time. :( in the book she said so many wise and smart thing...
Yes, I agree... However, as it`s in this film, it makes the atmosphere between them more... misterius? - it`s hard to describe why but I think it`s quite charming ;)
I agree! In the book, Jane is very clever and is not afraid of showing it once she has got used to Mr. Rochester. Ruth Wilson is a fine actress. It is a pity that she did not get the opportunity to show it more. It would have been interesting to watch her work with scripts like the ones used for the BBC adaptations of Jane Eyre from 1973 or 1983.
Mr. Rochester, please. We all know that "fairly elementary study of biology" = watching Maury 5 days a week. Which alone explains your being 110% sure you are NOT the father of Celine's baby, who don't even look nothing like you.
I'd love to see an expanded version of this containing the entire flashback to France. It has to be some of the most intriguing, sexy expositional dialogue ever adapted from a book.
yeah actually..it would be nice to see Mr. Rochester go through his wild sexual experiences in Europe ;). That would make a great movie..providing it is the same actor!!
Yes, that would, but what I was referring to was just the whole flashback scene right before this clip starts. I LOVE how he tells the story. It was clever of the screenwriters and editors to do it like that. And of course, Toby's delivery makes it perfect. ;)
This is not a document on the customs of that period. I recommend you leave your measuring tape in the drawer, and enjoy this excellent production. Artistic truth is the only thing that matters :)
they actually do have this convo, very early on in the book. its very close to the dialogue in the book. i read the book, and a week after i finished it this came on bbc. couldn't get enough. excellent adapation.
That's why its in a book!...but hey..how do you know??...they were people just like us now...they had the same urges too...so i would believe that they could have an intimate conversation..especially if he's the master of the house!..He would do whatever he pleases!
What year is this movie from.
