I go into environment and into the midi inst. layer, but there's no gm device there. In one of your other videos you also mention using IAC, thats not in my mac either. I'm i missing something here :S

hey first of all thank you for making this videos and helping people, i have one question, i record a song via midi in a pc, but then i got a mac, so what i want is to continue my project in my mac, so i convert my projects in the pc in the option midi1, so then i pasted on my mac and open them with logic. i have a korgm50 plug to my mac via usb. but when i open my project in logic it sounds with the logic sounds and not whit my m50 sounds please help :D thanks again

Hey bro, check your latency settings and make sure your buffer size is set to really low like either 32, 64, or 128. Also avoid mixing anything with digital plugins until after you've done all your midi editing etc. If you don't, it gives you a delay, better known as latency.

go to file, preferences, audio, then click on the pull down tab and select one of the buffer sizes. After your done with recording and midi, set it back to 520 or 1024.

Hey Dave,

Your videos are the best. I use logic for life performance and use a lot of sequencing. I want to be able to sequence one patch on my access virus while playing another patch at the same time on the Access Virus. Or sequence two different patches from the Access Virus at the same time. Usually I would use 2 keyboards for this (not enough polyphony with analogs). Hopefully you can help me out!

This is actually pretty good. Your voice is soothing and engaging AND you have the attitude that you want to help and know all the pitfalls of this software. I am buying Logic because I concluded it's the best solution for MIDI sequencing specifically because of the MIDI environment.

David you rock hard. Can you tell me why I don't have a layer called MIDI instruments. I only have All objects, Global Objects, Clicks & Ports and Mixer layers. Could it be (and I'm praying not) that this is another disadvantage of have Logic Express 9, not Studio? All I want is to be able to use the voices on my Yammy MO6. Is that too much to ask??

@MagicMr03 I just set it up once, then saved the empty project. Whenever I want to start a new track I just load the empty project and save it as whatever I want to call the song.

I have an evolution mk239 or some shit lmao and I have no output with my midi. I borrowed it from a buddy, so I checked to see if there were any drivers I needed online. None needed, I guess. Its a usb midi controller, not a triton, or cool stuff. SO I need to be able to control the instruments in logic with it, but unfortunately I have no audio. Help?

hey man, i'm having serious trouble with my electribe drum machine. I want to use it as a sequencer but it is very jumpy i.e. it only plays a few notes of each pass rather than all of the messages that I have. Other than being very irritating to listen to, it's very useless at the minute.

Oh Dear, what an ordeal to set up external midi tracks. This is really a throwback from the dark ages. I cant think of any other software that forces the user to jump through hoops like this to set up external midi track. Of course this is not SF Ninjas fault.

Well I don't really know what Ninja is doing here because I just plugged in my Access Virus and Machinedrum into my interface. And then I just choose a miditrack like I would an audio track. Then I choose the appropiate channel for the Virus or Machinedrum and BAAM, I'm playing. It even records filtersweeps and everything without doing any settings whatsoever, just turn the knobs and logic knows it's there.

So I just bought a Korg Electribe EMX 1, and I am goin NUTS tryin to get this thing to work as a slave to logic...for some...Ive checked out your external midi clips and they were very hellpful to a deegree...now heres my problem...I can get everything the midid and audio in and out of logic BUT the tempo WILL NOT SYNK! Also as I adjust parameters on the EMX itself, my Projectmix IO faders move sometimes pulling down the overall volume of the whole EMX .PLEASE HELP if you can!

I have another question for you. I have a Korg x5 and a Alesis Drum Machine connected to my system. I use my Korg as my midi controller. When I want to use those Midi Instruments with Logic I just make my tracks and use the sounds that I need from either my computer or my midi instruments I need because it's all hooked up to my Mackie mixer seperately. Is this a good way to use my midi devices with my Logic?

Yes. The Nord would be assigned to its own audio track, and you would select the little 'I' by the record key to be able to listen to the nord as you played it. If you were ready to record it as audio, you would simply hit the record enable on the track, and record the audio. The Nord must be set to local off, though...

The one thing that sucks in any sequencer software is how horribly they work with external MIDI instruments. The environments you pointed us too fall apart once one starts adding User defined patches to the external.

What Roland has done with the new SH201 is the way to go. Have the external synth show up as an audio unit, VST, etc. In 2008 one should never have to type the name of a patch.
