Thanks very much for posting the YouTube video and links, it was really helpful when I upgraded my Premiere XL to 2TB. FWIW, the process for the XL was the same as your video, except it took roughly 15 hours to copy the XL's 1TB OEM drive.

Is there a specific WD or Hitachi 2TB drive that must be used?....Ive heard that TIVO needs a particular external eSata drive....With the JMFS tool can you jam any old huge drive into a TIVO Premiere ??

@lsi624 I think the internal hard drive can be any type. There is a size limit, however. The external may have to be a specific type.

So... I'm buying a brand new TiVo and doing this... So, do I need to do the transfer, or will the TiVo auto format the drive?

Can HDclone software be used to clone the Tivo drive. I clone my Ubuntu Server drive all the time.

@mhpreach No. During the transfer, there are some modifications done to the layout so you can not simply do a clone and expect to see the additional space.

If I buy a new Tivo, and I don't have any shows on it, do I still have to copy it to put the bootloader on the new drive, or will it automatically format?
