This is a problem that plagues the majority of manual Hondas. It's been addressed, if your vehicle is still under powertrain warranty (5 year 60k miles(yes both)) any Honda dealership will fix it for free.
rev the car to atleat 3500 rpm or up shift to 3rd gear when you hit 29mph..this will help you shift better and this what is says in the drivers manual for our car..if you still having problem go and replace your transmission oil with amsoil transmission fluid..
hey bro...i had a 06 fg2 and i had the same thing happen to me...i thought the first time it happened i grinded the hell out of the gears and that was the reason why it was doing that. unfortunately i totaled the 06 and bought a gti...now i went back to the fg2 2010 model and i don't have that problem anymore. i guess they fixed it in the 09-10 models from what i'm reading...you still have that problem??
I have a TWM SS and RP MTF and I haven't had anymore problems w/ my FA5, so far. I have looked into replacing all the synchros w/ aftermarket carbon coated ones as well.
i own an si.. this car is designed to shift at 4500-5000 rpm. i was watching you shift, and you should be more deliberate in your shift to 3rd. yes it does pop at lower rpm but not when its near 5000, which is the way you should be driving an si
well i just talked to a guy from my gym who just got warrantee repair for the syncro that fixes 3rd gear, plus i talked to honda and they said they fix 3rd gear now if you have warrantee.. if you don't then the 3rd gear kit is $1400.. mine doesn't have any probs but i'll keep an eye on it.. my si is friggin sick .. i love it.
ya i own a 05 rsx type s n same problem wit 3rd gear grinding until it blew on me...now i own a 07 civic si sedan n same shit wit 3rd gear....waz up wit the tranny on the k20...ended up buying a new tranny for my rsx dealer wanted 6000 for it but got it for 4200 elswhere...ya lemon law states they have to fix the problem....i know this sucks
Hi kelly, plz disregard previous posts from other users and have this topic resumed. No doubt started a good one. thumbs up for all civic si drivers. i`ve given honda 1000`s becuase i dont trust any other place
just for oil change, thay charge me 400+ easily which includes front wheel rotations, balancing and couple of other "stuff"
Yeah, i drive an 05 rsx type s and i have the same problem on the 3rd gear. it doesnt actually pop out but it does grind and go in half way and grind badly. and i went to honda after i heard of the tsb. but they couldnt "duplicate the problem" they just said my clutch was worn out but, there only trying to make some money off of me. very disappointing by honda and acura....
now when i took my car to there, the guy refused to help me, instead he offered me a free 2008 free oil change card and at the same time he wanted me to buy winter tires and with all list, he estimated way more then usual. i`m extremely mad and i will be following up with this complaint

It's just an overfill of fuild in the transmission that causing the problem of the 3rd gear.
otterlakerules 3 years ago
No it's not. Honda has a new "gearset" for the 6-speed manual transmission.

tell the tech's to drive it hard like in the video or they will drive it normal and say they can't duplicate it.

To all those people that ran their mouth, why is Honda now releasing a TSB?
mpicon04 3 years ago
Do you know what is the reason? Does the dealer accept that 06 si's 3rd gear have problem?

I appologize for removing all comments.
there are some ppl who like to blame others without reason, or without knowing anything.
to those who don't know what I'm trying to show in this video,
go and RESEARCH "honda 6spd MT 3rd gear syncro problem / poping out problem".
and to ppl who thinks i suck at driving MT,
Let's meet up and show me what u've got there.
peace!
