I assume she was tossing out a photo of a past lover, judging from the way she was looking at the couples she was passing on the street her demeanor went from sorta happy to sad to suicidal and what appeared to be homicidal cuz I think she took that white chick that was trying to save her with her to the front of the oncoming subway.
I think the story told a poignant tale of loneliness and final desperation. I might be way off base here, I sucked at this in undergrad!
Hmm, interesting. I'm getting the masking of our real emotions. * I enjoyed the clip.* Despite it being 4 minute long, it left me with something to think about. Great job!
That's not a complaint either....That's what I liked about it. ( How did you fit ur concept into 4 minutes. Bravo!) It takes me a week to express a minute thought. So hats off to you once again. Peace and Humbleness.
@Sahbisun Oh I know...think my answer read differently than I meant. @913spiffy Thank-you for the thoughful, indepth commentary, love it! =) =) I do think this is the world we live in today. We are all at the sidelines at the wrong times it seems to me (over and over). Hahaha. Yes, it's a short piece....the next one will be longer...
trying to off herself. The train passed twice. The guy was so angry at her for not taking the opportunity. Doesn't he know the train passes every 15 min? I truly saw the Mask at the end when everyone covered their faces (we have so many). They couldn't even face the truth of their own actuality. They stood and watched this beautiful woman kill herself as if they had nothing at all to do with it. I could be stretching but those resolute automatons were probably, her! Good work!
Wow! Powerful stuff. For me, this was very dark and twisted. Everyone seems lifeless and dead. There are only two living beings in this short; the main actress and the coward in the pink shirt who didn't have the guts to die on her own. Perhaps, this is what society is, a bunch of bullies and weak drones. She knew from the beginning her fate. She was living in hell! How else could an ice cream cone just disappear like that? These people are very "hot" and bothered by her lackluster attempt at..

@HonorRepresentative Thank you buddy. Yeah, I purposely didn't read any of your remarks before watching this tour de force... just needed to sense what was going on here. You've been, "traveling the track of my intention" since day one.
This short film has some sort of growing tension which really left me watching it to the end. I also found (but that could be just a personal interpretation) how the ice cream works as an escape from the pain (that's where I see the "mask"), and the act of dropping it is the turning point from denial to awareness.
@kekkomatic (Re: on watching to the end..) GOOD! There is stuff happening in this film that I am still discovering believe it or not, you're right, it is was a "cover," after a while...so it is a "Mask." Perceptive. SMH. Suspense, apprehension u can feel that something unpleasant is about to happen, but not that many people try to grasp that urgency of the moment to really help the beautiful lady it is expected is New York. Overall, it was an enjoyable tension.
@Catierowan Thank-you sooooooooooooooo much!!! :) *~*Glad you thought there was alot of emotion in it. Without that, we mighta been lost. Lol. Thank-you.
"OH my god I just watched Mask, and for a short film only about five minutes long. Talk about intense. Intense I tell ya. I loved it. I loved the music in it. and for no word spoken. There was a lot of emotion in it. Keep it up hun."
@mscosmiccat Certain things get lost in text. I tried to write my response in a way where I was simply trying to clarify and letting you know the response might be read 2 ways (so I simply wasn't sure). I said sorry then place the question mark cause it's the way I talk? It wasn't meant at all to question your perception. I welcome any kind of comments. If you liked it/if you didn't. Nothing is negative here because it's food for thought and will make me better!!! Lolol.
@womanwheart I'm confused. Do you have more than one user name? Are you Honor Representative & womanwheart & anitra22? Not sure who it is I'm addressing at this point. LOL I don't understand the question mark at the end of a statement. Does it mean you're questioning whether or not your statement is true? There are no "Question Mark Police" to my knowledge, but " I said sorry then place the question mark cause it's the way I talk?" makes no sense to me. I do like your film, BTW
@mscosmiccat LOL. Yes, I have a personal acct and a film one (this one). I am womanwheart as well. I didn't realize I was still in that acct--pages left open overnight. But I am Honor and woman, anitra22 is my editor so this is actually posted on her page and added to a playlist on Honor Pictures. I know confusing. Did that cause I couldn't upload here from my DVD copy. Not sure why. And now the question mark at the end of the statement is not questioning it, so it shouldn't be there really...
@mscosmiccat ...but from writing dialogue, I've picked up this habit of writing out things how they should be spoken (in instances). I also placed the question mark there to soften my response. It's okay, things get lost from time to time when the answer is type. =) The question mark police is me setting it straight because I realize the way I put that together might be confusing. You've not heard me speak so of course you couldn't connect the two. Glad you like the film too.
I like how people picked up that something wasn't quite right. What a sad woman in pain to have chosen that path. Kind of hits home as someone close to me committed suicide. But the joy she had in watching the happy couples is that she knew her pain was close to ending. powerful work.
@kv1901 WOW!!!!!!! I applaud YOU. WOW!!!! You're the first person that caught that. When I initially wrote this, that was the reason I wrote for her smiling at the couple. But I didn't...highlight that reason in any kind of literal way. It's amazing to hear you got that. *~*Thank-you for the compliment kv. Thank-you.~*~*
@HonorRepresentative Thanks Honor.. You know so many people do not understand suicide I think due to fear (suicide is a cowardly act, you will go to hell). I think this type of juvenile thought helps no one. If we stick are head in the sand about the suffering of others (keeping on the bright side of life) we cannot intervene and we remain ignorant.
@kv1901 I think you are absolutely right about this. And there is so much glossing over the feeling and experiences of others in society...that it leaves us on the outside of understanding. I guess I was trying to humanize the act. Bring people into an experience where they have to pay attention. Closer...to those around them. B/c it could be anyone. Anyone of us, anyone we know, anyone we see. But I agree, if our minds are too closed, our response will be contained...miss the mark. =(
Hmmm. This is very unsettling. Everything seemed fine, normal, till that guy confronted her. Was it something he said? Why did she remove her shoes? It seems that she plunged immediately into a different, morbid, state of mind and we're left to wonder what led up to it. How can you be eating an ice cream cone one minute and throwing yourself in front of a train the next?
@mscosmiccat It's interesting that I'm not sure if my storytelling doesn't land or if the story's character is shocking for you. If it is the instance of the character, yes, it is unsettling. Sorry, but I wanted it to be? Because in life you're left kind of twisted and unhinged by someone dying suddenly (at their own hands or that of another). It feels like you've stated. You ask all these questions that can't be answered. Lol, but if it is story telling problems you're questioning...looking...
@HonorRepresentative Please, no need to be sorry. My comments are personal observations and as such are bound to be more subjective than objective. They weren't meant to be negative or to suggest that your story telling has problems. Also, my comments were my first impressions & first impressions can be premature, deceptive & full of expectations learned from past experience. I'm going to view the film again, objectively, & look for clues to the sudden change in the character's personality.
@mscosmiccat You are always welcome and anything you say, taken. That email was in NO way meant to be a stick, but I re-read my response to your 1st response and it could be read as a stick (with subtext). I in no way meant it that way, I was actually trying to respond in a manner that you prompt you to clarify so I know for sure what you were saying and can throw it around in my head. Your response and place here is gold!!!!! LOLOL. Truly. These are not just words...
This film is like a painting...silence is a special world...there are many things to say about a painting...most important it makes you think...there is always something else you could do...but then it would be your painting not the one painted...good work...keep WORKING...painting...:) All the best
@SIRTONY Funny you should say that. I used to think of myself as a painter before I started falling in love with the idea of doing film (in school). And I still paint. Anyway, I'm glad this made you think. I'm so honored you took a look at my film. And I will, thanks for the support Sirtony. All the best to you too! :) :)
Yes, so many unanswered questions... I get fixated on food! Especially, when food is carelessly discarded by the main character. It seems that was her last meal. Since, I didn't really know how much time had passed. I had previously thought the cone melted in her purse. On a more serious note... How many of us as a society do not seem to care/help our fellow person?!? Peacefully stay, Kay... -Jeffry
@HandsomeHybrid Lolol. Me too, obsessed with food. Probably why I work it into my stories a bit. But I guess, yes, that was her last meal. Concerning your last note/question... that is something I think about all the time. All the time. I think that's what made me write this. Sounds corny but I want to help and care for my fellow man and woman. Peacefully stay too Jeffry. Thank-you for watching our film. =)
I really like the mood and uncertainty here...I feel that it's a bit of a tease because I want to know more about this woman. Why is she smiling at the couple, and why is that scene shown again at the end? Why does she seem so relaxed as she eats her ice cream considering what she has planned?
Maybe this has been addressed by others...I haven't read the comments yet.
@chocolatepoundcake Lol. Good! (That you want to know more about this woman, sorry for cutting you short...but I'd rather have you want more here than be tired of watching and be like: yeah, yeah, I get it.) As for how this plays out, it's not your regular way to tell a story so it may lose you and a few others. And regarding your questions, they're great questions for me to consider. Makes ask myself, what would have happened if the drama unfolded more simply, more straight forward ahead? TY!!
Wow, this was awesome. The message I got as to why she wanted to off her self was: "If being yourself is met with sneers and cruelty, than what is the point in living?"
I don't know if I am way off there, but that is what I took away from it and I have honestly felt that way myself. Thanks for posting!
@YeOldeHeretic Haha! Right...that...add in heartbreak. Who wouldn't end up this way? And I'm not advocating suicide. I just mean that compiled, can send a person's head, easy. I can see you get this, cause it was so clear to you. I also didn't want to be to literal, placing neon flashing lights, around the actual message. But for some I know this way seems muddled. Thanks for the comment & the compliment and for taking the time to watch. I'm very appreciative....
@bigtymer9778 =) =) =) First of all....*thank-you for the add and for watching it twice!* You are not on the wrong track, it "starts," out as that yes!
Seeing this, I am reminded of why so many people felt silent films - which, when you think about it, this is - was the purer expression of the medium. And it is testament to your achievement that I need to keep remembering, even now as I turn the film over in my head, that not a word was spoken. Well done.....and thanks for inviting me to subscribe.
@unmeasuredinstances I'm glad there was never a need to hear them speak, I tried to create it in a way the audience wouldn't think: um are they going to speak? Because ten it's like ignoring what would be natural here or there. Very interesting you had to keep remembering there were no words....thank-you for subscribing... =)
@TheGoddessNetworks Why do you think, she may have wanted to? Exactly!!!!!!! Your second and third thoughts were my motivations in telling this particular story. Lol.
Lovely breakdown, thank-you! =) But...who told you you "sucked," at analysis in college??? Lol. Ya don't suck...

This movie doesn't give any answers!
It only asks the question WHY!
In the subway something dramatic takes place: life
forces you to react. What would YOU do? In the moment
where intervention is necessary, life de-maskes us and
reveals a deep truth about us, at least in this specific
situation.
Sometimes intervention has devastating consequenses.
In this case it leads to death! What if someone had reacted
before it was inevitably too late?

The final scene presents the woman in the way we normally
want to remember the ones we've lost:
in the most positive way possible! We wanna remember their
smile, voice, laughter, the happy time we spent together.
This simple truth is condensed in the final scene.

Did they both get hit by the train? I thought she was going to get a beat down for eating the cone while everyone else was burning up LOL

Seeing this, I am reminded of why so many people felt silent films - which, when you think about it, this is - was the purer expression of the medium. And it is testament to your achievement that I need to keep remembering, even now as I turn the film over in my head, that not a word was spoken. Well done.....and thanks for inviting me to subscribe.
unmeasuredinstances 1 year ago
@unmeasuredinstances I'm glad there was never a need to hear them speak, I tried to create it in a way the audience wouldn't think: um are they going to speak? Because ten it's like ignoring what would be natural here or there. Very interesting you had to keep remembering there were no words....thank-you for subscribing... =)

Interesting! WHy did she want to kill herself?
Its interesting how you pass people and you really dont SEE them. They have a world of thoughts.
TheGoddessNetworks 1 year ago
@TheGoddessNetworks Why do you think, she may have wanted to? Exactly!!!!!!! Your second and third thoughts were my motivations in telling this particular story. Lol.
