Freedom is a great feeling however when it comes to telling people how it feels to be in love with someone, it's the fear of being heartbroken that stops one from telling oneself you are in love, which therefore leads to walking away from it all
This woman is a Black Prophetess. Jesus says. I tell you my friends. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot afterwards do anything worse. Have reverence for God alone. - Luke 12: 4.
During that time a lot people actually THINK. they had thoughts about everything. They had great definition of what Freedom is. Their words were so powerful that your actions does not even matter. You will never find that today. What a shame.
how i love her. how her spirit is guiding me now, how she guides all who have the courage to look at themselves. it does not take an act of bravery, it is simply releasing the fear
and the way her music came through her, was freedom. not blocked by anything
how i feel such great love for her, her leadership, her honesty, her grace, and her joy
she suffered from depression, poor woman, but when she sang she soard like a bird in the air,...."i wish i knew how it would fel to be free", that song saved my life, during a dark period of lonliness and addiction , she realy speaks from her heart...nina simone R.I.P.
I know she's eccentric, and that this was filmed in a bygone time, and in no way am I knocking Ms. Simone (whose albums I own) but to anyone else does she sound like a bad, forced actor. "I mean really - no FEAR."
Bad, forced actor? Reducing her aliveness and passionate expression through labeling...that is knocking her. Highly creative human beings don't force anything, they have no need. Nina Simone is as genuine as they come.
@Warwickcain In terms of what freedom is or feels like. If you don't understand (and I don't have the time, space or desire to explain it to you) what Ms. Nina Simone was implying when she said;"I mean really-no fear, that's what freedom feels like" You must not be a black person-African American or African. I am specifically speaking from a black persons point of view during the civil rights movement, before and after...She wrote the song and others during and for the Civil Rights Movement.
@QueenlyOne66 I don't understand how being "a black person-African American or African" entitles you to understanding someone's words any more than any other race.
@tatbrat2001 As "bad" as this may sound, and I hope you don't take it that way, but....Of course you don't, because you're not Black. Or at least, I'm guessing you aren't, seeing how you responded to this.
And I'm not sure it's understanding someone's words MORE, as much as just DIFFERENTLY. If someone is talking about the Black Experience, trust that a Black person will understand that more than any other race of person. :)
@DamonesIsLegend Thank you for helping me understand that some things have to be experienced as a race/community to fully grasp it's meaning. I'm not at all offended by your comment and appreciate the time you took to respond.
what beautiful passion, and what i love about the song is its both sad and positive/uplifting at the same time, true genius! top post by the way, thanks :)
This is what kids need to learn and see in school. Not a read from a tomb of a book about the stale facts of dead old men. I'm sure they'd prefer it this way too -- imagine Jefferson or Washington's sentiments.
School is a place to learn to accept the depression/disappointment that comes from not pursuing your curiosity.
I heard Nina singing her 'I wish I were free' song on Desert Island Discs on radio this morning and wept with joy. Such great timing after Obama's election. I saw Nina play in London back in the '60s. My heart sings.

Her words and passion resonated in me. All I can say is that I will never think of being free the same. Nina illustrated it perfectly.

Well, enjoy as much and as quickly as you can! And when one day the disappointment starts, just imagine, it was Bush again. :-)
