Well if you look at the Olympics in 1968 which were held at Mexico City at altitude, look at the results of the endurance events, the winning times were way below what was expected as the athletes suffered from performing at altitude, so it seems Souness has a point, endurance events which require stamina like football, are much more difficult to do unless your body is adjusted to it. Can't believe the England set-up made that mistake.
Excuses after excuses. If England have won, it would have taken as normal and there would've been no shity excuses about altitude; but now that they have lost all excuses of the world are good to justify them. The worse is that there have never been a single credit given to Algeria and their astonishing performance, as if they were just a shadow team. English people, if you continue in your denial and arrogance, you will certainly finish by loosing against Slovenia and go home.
@billbertobilly As both Ireland & Scotland have not been qualified to the WC (Ireland deprived from qualification), they both act as if it was they were in the Eurovision song contest. Vote for the neighbours:) no matter what
@elmahna you really don't know the Irish if you think we would EVER support England. Yeah France might have cheated us of our chance to go the the World Cup but we don't hate the French ! The English though...after suffering for 800 years at the hands of the English bastards we have a hatred for them that will never die.
@Kelbert88 Fuck me sideways, are people still hating the English for what our rulers did to the Irish, Scots etc hundreds of years ago? Right, im gonna start hating the Germans for the 2 world wars and those bastard vikings and the Romans.
Hate the English rulers and arrogant stupid English (every country has arrogant pricks in them) but to hate the English? get a life and get a brain mate. Most English have Celtic ancestry anyway
hes right i was in denver usa another city high up it was like you where stoned all the time "no easy air" its so above sea level very little air strange experience beauitful place to visit and very nice sound people but i honestly could not handle it you walk and it was like you ran the people who live there i beat can go longer under water than most fish hes right abou't 1st match but the 2nd match was on normal sea level which confirms there team needs more than oxigen
England will always be overrated. They think they got a great team every year cause England's players play with world class foreign players in the premier league
I really doubt that this is the reason. Surely the fa's doctors should be the best in England and should know that. I am surprised about Souness knowledge on this.
@utdfortreble we have underestimated our opposition in the group. we were hoping to qualify easily, and were it not for rob green we would've done. we would then be feeling the full benefits when we needed it most - when we hit the last 16. its been planned this way but its gone tits up.
very sad excuse boarding on pathetic. how did England preform in Euro 08? WC06? very overrated team that has yet to live up to their "potential". lost too much money on them and sorry if i sound angry.
Very true mate, well said. I do A level PE, and one of the things we study is altitude training. Souness obviously went online to find these "facts", where most sources are a matter of opinion and pretty dubious.

@elmahna it's a Scottish man on an Irish television channel, neither are known for their pro-English attitude, why would they be making excuses?
(Not that I'm saying I buy into the theory - they could just be wrong rather than making excuses :P )

this is rubbish talk..
When own-goals saved England from defeat to Japan, were they playing at that altitude??
Purrleease..
Always looking for excuses for failure.
The boys and tactics are not good. I remember Ashley Cole making a lot of runs in that match. or didn't he prepare himself the same way the team did??
Ashley & Johnson did a lot of running in that match so that tiredness excuse is total nonesense.

@vncrls8 what are the facts then?
laserblack 1 year ago
@bigsamkay - yes they were playing in Graz at altitude and training in Irdning, Austria also at altitude when they played Japan.
The team are slow. Capello has said it himself. I only hope SOuness is wrong, but this has some ring of truth about it to me.
