Well if you look at the Olympics in 1968 which were held at Mexico City at altitude, look at the results of the endurance events, the winning times were way below what was expected as the athletes suffered from performing at altitude, so it seems Souness has a point, endurance events which require stamina like football, are much more difficult to do unless your body is adjusted to it. Can't believe the England set-up made that mistake.

Excuses after excuses. If England have won, it would have taken as normal and there would've been no shity excuses about altitude; but now that they have lost all excuses of the world are good to justify them. The worse is that there have never been a single credit given to Algeria and their astonishing performance, as if they were just a shadow team. English people, if you continue in your denial and arrogance, you will certainly finish by loosing against Slovenia and go home.

hes right i was in denver usa another city high up it was like you where stoned all the time "no easy air" its so above sea level very little air strange experience beauitful place to visit and very nice sound people but i honestly could not handle it you walk and it was like you ran the people who live there i beat can go longer under water than most fish hes right abou't 1st match but the 2nd match was on normal sea level which confirms there team needs more than oxigen

The boys and tactics are not good. I remember Ashley Cole making a lot of runs in that match. or didn't he prepare himself the same way the team did??

Ashley & Johnson did a lot of running in that match so that tiredness excuse is total nonesense.

Very true mate, well said. I do A level PE, and one of the things we study is altitude training. Souness obviously went online to find these "facts", where most sources are a matter of opinion and pretty dubious.

@bigsamkay - yes they were playing in Graz at altitude and training in Irdning, Austria also at altitude when they played Japan.

The team are slow. Capello has said it himself. I only hope SOuness is wrong, but this has some ring of truth about it to me.
