  • this game, hell i don't even know what to say lol, theyre no words that are able to describe chrono trigger and its music without understating it. this music just put you into a "ok lets go kick some ass and save the fuckin world" mood you forgot you had homework to do, and that it was 2am. "screw dinner, screw school, and i dont care that i gotta do chores! ive got a world to save" this game was all i thought about for days while playing it

  • Duck Tales Moon Theme AINT GOT SHIT ON THIS!

  • Supurb!!! The Gameplay is awesome, but the MUSIC.....PUTS YOU IN A PLACE!! A SPECIAL PLACE!! I beat this when i was a kid and my uncle (He produced music before he got sick) Allowed me to hook my SNES to his Expencive stereo and hear all the instruments to this games soundtrack!! i would just bring up the items screen and sit....

  • I got this music on my cellphone.

It doesn't really matter if it's MIDI, in fact, it doesn't even look like MIDI.

  • @GaNopper

i should get this on my cellphone too ^^

  • When I was young I used to put down my controller when I was in this area and just listened to the music :)

  • One of the things that really made this song stand out in my mind was the fact that the theme didn't stop for battle. So you got to fight to this music. It was pretty amazing.

  • when I play through Chrono I build up level on the stairs in the Palace until I get Luminaire. So I have listened to this tune for hours...and still can't hear it too much.

  • Seriously WE DON'T WANTY TENY SQUEENIX! Well who cares final fantasy is done anyway. All we can hope for is remakes.

  • It's strange... I think this music can be excellent in a 3D remake of this game. Imagine the giant palace with a lot of big monsters with this kucking epic theme !

  • I hear theyre remaking it in hd, but its just a rumor as far as i know, but if they did i would buy it, and ff7 if they remade it, i would pay over $100 or more for each

  • @Noobahmastah Nah, Square said that they're done with Chrono Trigger ports for now. About the remakes, Square is kinda bipolar, the fans are practically killing for a VI and VII remake, they even agree to pay MORE for them, but then they anounce a X remake... Right on Square... right on...

  • Most games now-a-days don't have amazing music like Chrono Trigger's and an epic, tragic, adventrous storyline like Chrono Trigger's either

  • When I first heard this song has I was beginning listening through SupraDarky's list, I actually wasn't too impressed with it. Now I find it to be a masterpiece and the whole Chrono Trigger soundtrack to be a gem.

  • so its puzzling me..what does chrono trigger have to do with chrono crusade and chrono cross...were they all made by the same company or something?

  • @CheyenneUchiha Chrono Chross is the sequel to Chrono Trigger. Neither of them have anything to do with Chrono Crusade.

  • @virkallea oh so does chrono chross have the same characters as chrono trigger.

  • @CheyenneUchiha The main characters are not the same. CC is in the same world, but with different characters and it's in a location in the world that you can't visit in CT.

  • @CheyenneUchiha Actually it does have a few, but spoilers man :)

  • I love how you can hear Schala's Theme at 0:30 to 0:50. It really shows that she's in danger and Magus is too blinded by rage for Lavos and Queen Zeal to competently save her. I also loved how this music played during the King's Trial. Damn, they were awesome at writing the chancellor. It takes talent to make the player HATE the antagonist.

  • Such a great game....

  • acuatic theme =D

  • whoa, that stereo at the end /)^3^/)

  • @MasterGamin Its cool bro. Don't sweat it

  • @MasterGamin Apparently last I heard they are putting CT on the VC and PSN so yeah you got your wish mayne.

  • @MasterGamin

You know it is on the VC now right haha well this comment was done 2 weeks ago so you probably already know.

  • I play this on my iPod whenever I get lost in SeaWorld.

  • Porra, que saudade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MasterGamin

Still waiting for that Mother 2(Earthbound) release to Virtual Console as well. Not sure if it'll happen though. Hope I'm wrong one day.

  • This is a sick track.

  • lol is this dragonball z

  • @Monkeyboy92037 The guy who made DBZ did the art for Chrono Trigger.

  • @Monkeyboy92037 no.... THIS! IS! CHRONO TRIGGER! *kicks!*

  • @Monkeyboy92037 No, this is one of the best games of all time, if not, the best RPG hands down! How dare you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @PrinceGale chill

  • You go to the Undersea Palace...

When you get there you hear this...

Than you know that shit's going down...

  • @MasterGamin the delay is because they also rereleased those games for the DS and didnt want competition between their own devices.

  • It's songs like this that make me wonder why games like CoD have such appeal. I listened to CoD soundtracks. I took off my nostalgia goggles just to make sure they got a fair shake, too, because keep in my mind I played CT when I was 7 and CoD when I was 17 and that makes a big difference.

The end result was the same. I just don't feel anything for the soundtracks of more modern games which seem to have totally abandoned the idea of using music as a narrative tool and not just background noise.

  • @MrEpicTruth It's probably because the breed of kids we have nowadays, who are fanatics about graphics and blood and gore. I'm glad to be a select few that aren't interested in that. Hell, I'm 14, and I don't play any game that goes past the Fifth Generation.

  • @MrEpicTruth That's a completely unfair comparison dude.... CoD is a FPS war game... do you expect it to have beautiful ballads and heart-wrenching orchestral themes? War doesn't have beautiful music in the background...

If you expect your comment to be taken seriously you must compare CT to modern RPG's such as Pandora's Tower or The Last Story.

These games ,imo, actually have well done OST...

Also, CT is arguably the best OST ever created... so any comparison comes up short ;|

  • @xSayPleasex watch?v=KQuLxNfzwyA

And you said CoD doesn't have heart-wrenching orchestral themes in it...

  • @blargwee Admittedly i have not played much CoD. If anything, your point supporting the music of CoD only stengthens my original comment as to the unfairness of this common mantra that says ALL new VGM music is souless/rushed/poorly done etc etc.

  • @MrEpicTruth

cods kinda gay... Fun with friends yes but after awhile you get bored cuz the game gets to easy or to stupid (patches, players, Same repetitiveness etc.) ..And the osts in that game arnt that great either. If you want a good shooter ost search up metal gear solid. Atleast that game has some style... Anything that relates to Ct, FF, Zelda, okami etc Or any good rpg game should fit the bill of a "great soundtrack".. While modern games today like you said wont fulfill that :) .

  • play this at school.....yup yer day just got epic

  • WHAAT I"VEE DOOOOONNEEE

  • One of the greatest video games EVER.

  • @MasterGamin It might seem late, but I don't care, because if people say that they still keep their snes, or heck, even nes, I might as well keep my wii since it will become retro, right?

  • @electricmastro

Wii will never be as Retro as SNES of NES. It's not the same thing, since those are the consoles which DEFINED videogames the way they are today. Wii is just console gen 4...

  • @electricmastro will not happen

  • @kriezai well, ya never know...

  • @MasterGamin WTF Chrono Trigger on the Wii?

  • 海底神殿のダンジョンのテーマですね。ゴーレムシスターズに昔苦戦した思い出があるわ。音楽もまさしく世界崩壊の予兆に相応しいBGM。

  • @DontTaseM3Bro HEY HEY HEY!!! Breath of Fire II to me is a GOD game. to be honest i even liked it more than this one. now call me crazy :P

  • KING K WUZ HERE 2011

  • Gais i tink ma headphones r broked.

  • It's weird listening to this with headphones, as if the backround melody keep alternating between through one part of the headphone to the other.

  • @electricmastro Yeah. That tends to happen fairly often with stereo sound. >_>

  • @electricmastro for me that is awesome

  • @electricmastro That's because it does. :P

  • @electricmastro That's because it is. lol

  • oh how I love this game so

  • @DontTaseM3Bro the drum beat is pretty much the same

  • @DontTaseM3Bro As a UK gamer, I had to buy this on import (back in 1995). Cost me £80. With the exchange rate at the time, that would have been the equivalent of about $145..... So I think you got off easy!

  • remember thumbsupmaster put this masterpiece into his Banjo kazooie vid

  • Best game ever! And with it, comes one of the most awesome pieces of music in all of video games!

  • @Dxstroia Too bad its only on the 360 or I might based on a few videos I just watched. I got a PS3 though, since XBOX is not really known for RPG's.

  • Even with the somewhat simplistic storyline, CT manages to hook gamers until the very end. I never managed to finish FF13 because of all the poorly written dialogues, pointless cutscenes and dull gameplay. The proof that more=/=good.

  • @DontTaseM3Bro Totally agreed.

  • This is such a superb track my favourite of the game probably.

  • You should put Singing Moutain even though it wasn't it the game it's awesome.

  • I remember clearly, when I first heard that tune I was like "Oh my God, I can't imagine what will happen next!". Nowadays games are so predictable. They just don't have "souls" these old games had.

  • It's cool also how they made it to where this music continues to play continually through battles, etc. Really adds to the seriousness to that portion of the game.

  • @ReuWil Anything to get away from the awful battle theme. It's the worst song in the game and you hear it the most often.

  • This song could make anything seem like the most important thing in the universe. You ever listen to this in the shower? I'll bet you never SHOWERED FOR YOUR LIFE before.

  • @Alexx1083 I must say I laughed my ass off at that.

  • @Alexx1083

Hmm.... I'll have to do that next time. ;)

  • @Alexx1083 Making dinner tonight is going to be a whole new story....

  • That's it....bringing out my SNES...

  • the song is so great that even today people are still commenting!

  • its so depressing realizing that games like this will NEVER be made again..

    sigh...

  • @epicguitarsolo there was pictures of a remake im hopin they doa true sequel bein crono break was canceled

due to a budget cut by square enix and crono cross was a prequel to chrono break by the scripts readings

  • @epicguitarsolo Agreed. I keep waiting for a modern RPG to give me a story and characters I care about, yet since FF9 I have not been able to replicate the experience. Closest I have come lately has been the Mass Effect games, but that often feels more FPS than RPG, though the story and characters are great. Most new RPGs are ridiculous, and full of unnecessarily obnoxious names to pronounce and storylines that are complex for the sake of being complex, as if mocking any ability to follow along.

  • @epicguitarsolo so true... these were good times! but hey, do you know Cave Story (Doukutsu Monogatari)? a magnificent one from 2004, quite inspired from the old days! took the man 5 years to conceive... worth the try!

  • @epicguitarsolo i really really really donot like RPG's at all... really... i never buy them... but this game was one of the first rpg's i ever liked... the story pulled me in so much that I could not stop playing it until I beat it at least 4 different times and I think I've gotten a few alt endings theres a bunch in this game.

  • GREAT SONG!!! i just played this on my keyboard and it came out EXCELLENT! everyone let me know what you all think :)

  • Comment removed

  • Some people don't realize that the music for this was generated from the SNES and not a disc. Even the OST when it was released sounded like it was playing on the SNES.

  • 15 people couldn't get past the Undersea Palace

  • I would literally murder someone to get this out on PSP.

  • @imtheonlysane1here thats why u hack a psp

  • This is just WAY TOO GOOD! xD

This game is just so damn amazing, best RPG ever made.

Like everyone else said, they don't make them like this anymore, and I doubt they ever will. Seriously, I have this game in so many ways, from the original to the Nintendo DS. Now I'm just waiting for the VC (Virtual Console) version to come out. I could play this game until the day I die.

  • @RhanC777 Actually I think it's going to be soon to be released on the Virtual Console if not right now.

  • @chenmaster2

It came out on the 16th lol.

    I have it now.

  • Great song!!! i did the cover for this of me playing on the keyboard, just click on my name and watch and let me know what you all think! :)

  • 1:26-1:36 fades from left speaker to right speaker. You're in for a nice EARGASM if you listen with a good set of headphones!

  • @KMedina619 Yes. And they keep going on background until 2:17 .. Genius !

  • @KMedina619 dude i hear you! Er, the song at least lol.

  • The best thing in the undersea palace is this song never stops

  • The whole CT soundtrack must be on this list.

Can you find a game with a soundtrack that is more epic than Chrono Trigger?

  • @vinitrujillo

pick a final fantasy, any final fantasy (but tactics is tops for me). soul calibur 3. xenogears. pick a castlevania, any castlevania. pick any tekken but 4, including tag's, theyre all insanely good.

  • @vinitrujillo Chrono Cross, haha.

  • @dissident93 CC soundtrack is epic for sure, but it can't beat CT's :)

  • @vinitrujillo Chrono Trigger has a a hell of a Soundtrack, my two favorite composers worked on it! But, Xenogears and Cross had more of a mature, sophisticated feel to them. Even Mitsuda admitted this fact.

  • They really don't make game music like this anymore, and it's more of a sign of the times. Back in 8 and 16-bit eras you had to be clever with your song structure and melody because you could only fit so much on a cartridge and the technology was limited. Now with major symphonic scores (many of which are BLAND, IMO) a lot of games miss the pretty melodic element in their music.

  • Truly a perfect game, more than a game, it's pure imagination and art....

  • This game is one of those games that define RPG. Everything was done perfectly, I never could think of a bad thing to say about Crono Trigger (except it takes forever to get to 99)

This music really is amazing...probably in my top three favorite tracks of the game. I drove my family crazy cranking my TV when I reached this part lol.

I can't wait for a real sequel (with the chars) of Chrono Trigger (I love Chrono Cross but it's not a true Sequel just an amazing game in the series) Great Choice

  • @HolyMao229 What sequel?

  • kinda reminds me of goldeneye-archives

  • this song perfectly captures the urgency of the situation when you get to thjs part.. brilliant writing..

  • The DS remake doesn't have the depth and richness to its sound that the SNES version does. It's really close though, I'll credit them that.

  • Classics never go retro.

  • @Largosmetal

    well said ...

  • ALL CHRONO TRIGGER MUSIC IS SO EPIC

  • This theme is by far the most badass theme in chrono trigger.

  • まさに悪夢の始まりと言わんばかりなメロディーや演奏ですね。聴けてうれしいです。海底神殿のラヴォスの目覚めを思い出します。

  • @rnbqw057 Can't read Japanese... but I agree :p

  • Sounds kind of like the Terminator 2 theme!

  • Any location that supersedes battle music with its OWN in a video game automatically makes it win. I'm looking at you, Zanarkand...

  • i still think they should remake this game. it was way ahead of its time. the story line entwined with time travel was so in dept that i actually felt the emotion that was displayed in the game. ff 7 was tight but i honestly thinkg crono trigger was the best rpg ive ever played. from the music, characters, story line, options given, to secrects, and multiple endings. i never played a another rpg like CT.

  • @reaohl They did remake this game. Like a year ago.

  • @reaohl

    It's available on DS dude.

  • So what console is making this music? Ps1? N64? NO iTS FREAKIN SNES!!! insanity!!

  • YOU my good sir, have excellent taste in music!

  • OMG when I heard this song it took me back to scrolling thru my menu to make sure my HP/MP was up and my weapons was straight before battle.....where have all the good games that transcend time gone?

  • awsome song, is this game good?

  • The game is AWESOME. Now go play it! ^^

  • @MrILOVEBEINGPURPLE This game is awesome i play it like 16 times i play it for the first time when i was 8 years old i start playing it again ( im 19) Chrono trigger FF6 FF7 Sword of mana Tales of... Super Mario RPG Zelda are the games that you MUST play at least one time in your life.
  • @MrILOVEBEINGPURPLE

It's a good story to it, it remains to this day my favorite rpg/game of all time, but nowadays its hard to look back at games from this day and appreciate them for what they were, if you played games back in the day this was released such as final fantasy 4-6, and any other square game from that time then you might enjoy this, i'd like to think everyon one in the world would enjoy this game but, i would be wrong.

  • Gotta love the creative use of synthesizers and wind instruments. Listening to this song with headphones is mind-boggling.

  • This song is awesome.

  • the character design looks like akira toriyama the mangaka who made dragonball series you know guys know if he helped with the design?

  • @ozwld222 yeah, character design, the levels and maps.

I think he had a say in the storyline as well but have no proof.

This song samples other motifs from the soundtrack and plays them in a minor key, like Frog's and Crono's themes.

  • @ozwld222

yep, it was him who designed them all!

  • @ozwld222 This game and Dragon Quest series have taught me: if it looks like Akira Toryama designed the visuals, he probably did ^^

  • @ozwld222 Yes he did.

  • hey guys, excuse me while i go to the hospital. the nostalgia tank just ran me over.

  • This game released the year I was born, and I didn't play it until 14 years later, but it was, and is, still great. Pacing, concept, music, battles, locales, the many endings. It comes together just so very nicely.

My second favorite RPG I've played on the DS, and by extension also my second or third favorite game on the DS.

  • they just don't make games like this anymore.

  • @1AndTheSea sad but true, square has lost its touch with the gamers

  • @1AndTheSea Or game music, for that matter.

  • @1AndTheSea damn straight. what a damn shame

  • @1AndTheSea sure they do i bought the remake when it came out :D

  • @1AndTheSea of course they don`t do more games like chrono trigger, and this is because it`s the best rpg game ever

  • @1AndTheSea tell me about it! now its to gayyy

  • @1AndTheSea couldnt have said it better myself. my younger sister is really into mmorpgs but she doesnt get into any of the old school rpgs... surprises the shit outta me! the stories and music!

  • When I hear this, I picture a group of people breaking into the central core of some big place and they are in dark elevator save for the slats of lights that break through while they go down. This is the best game ever.

  • Man, I need to go through Chrono Trigger again... I've beaten it on the SNES and DS, but I haven't beaten it on the PlayStation even tho I have it

  • @Sawneyrath11 Same here, the ps1 version was the first version I owned, but it wasn't untill I got the other two versions when I realized the ps1 game is a terrible port, it takes several seccods of loading to do anything (and I do mean ANYTHING!). I'll still probably try to beat the ps1 game but the load times still tick me off >:(

  • @cliffemall666 i've beaten every version, and the snes is the best obviously. the ds is the same, it just has an extra dungeon and an extra weapon.

  • xD I was just listening to The Creepshow and one of their songs reminded me of this. It's been too long since I heard this song.

  • My cousin bought this on his DS and he says the game is so boring...i fired it up and i couldn't put it down :D. his loss!

  • Eight people failed so hard in the Undersea Palace.

  • Gamers should play games that they have fun playing and that make them happy. Graphics don't matter, console doesn't matter, etc.

  • @Slangwell agree... i have call of duty for wii... everyone bashes is commenting on the graphics in comparison to that of Xbox 360 or ps3... yea the graphics suck in comparison.. but u dont get to aim with the wii remote to move and shoot... i personally think its way more fun.. but no one believes me cause they suck wen they first try it and assume the game sucks

  • This song represents the "Moment of Truth". It just sounds like it.

  • This game is too awesome.

  • Well it's good to hear that some kids still appreciate god-tier gaming. I'm 23 and I remember the first time I played this game and the immense depth and permanence it left with me upon completion. I've never felt more fulfilled as a gamer then in that moment and I have been chasing the CT dragon so to speak ever since. Whenever I get down or feel like I'll never experience such unbridled perfection I just pop this masterpiece back into my SNES and nostalgia SO hard.

  • Chrono Trigger was, and still is, one of the most 'perfect' games ever made. Compelling story, fantastic music, enjoyable game play, and a great balance between linear and non-linear action.

While I may be biased with this music playing and reminding me of the fantastic experiences I've had playing this game, I'm hard pressed to think of a more perfect game off the top of my head.

  • believe me im 15 and all my friends dont even think of these games to be the best there all over there cod 7 and everything, Im in love with snes games including this one the most that have great stories. Im fifteen and i approve this freakin messege.

  • Huh, who knew 13 year olds on YouTube had good taste. I figured most of them were over at the Justin Bieber vids.

    Good kids, I say.

  • @Knightmare2k6 Fucking troll is fucking wrong.

  • I miss those time, wish i could ride epoch back in those time :\

  • There are still some kids out there who don't like games like CoD/Halo/etc, and love retro games like CT/FF/etc, I'm one of them.

I'm 14 and Chrono Trigger's one of my favourite games, along with FFVI, Super Mario World, FFVII, and many more...the SNES being my favourite console obviously, haha.

Before anyone says "You're too young to remember any of those", my Uncle had an SNES [and other consoles] that I played.

Damn Xbots won't play any games without Space Marines/World Wars/"Good graphics".

  • @joshp011 you could try Braid, its a bit retro in design and I've heard nothing but good about it.

  • @JacobPaige:

I've actually heard good things about Braid and sort of wanted to try it, but unfortunately I don't have a 360 or PS3 to play it on. :|

  • @joshp011 Ah, sorry, thought you said you did. Well if you have PS2 then the Suikoden series is generally great. Also, Xenogears and Legend of Legaia were groundbreaking for their time and are still worth playing even now if you're not too worried about graphics (for LoL, Xeno still looks pretty good).

  • @JacobPaige:

I do have a PS2 and I've heard good things about all of those games, they're just hard to get a hold of...at least here they are.

If I can get a hold of them I'll definitely play them. :)

  • @joshp011 true, good rpgs seem to be less likely to get sold to Game Stops and the like than shooters or sports games. plus most of those games are on PSOne :(

still, there are emulators for PSOne, so if you can't find it legitimately, then you can do that instead.

  • @JacobPaige:

Yeah, I agree with you completely, especially about the shooters/sports games. :|

What's even worse is that I live in Australia, and here...it's even harder to find old games, even from the PS2 sometimes. :/

Oh well I guess. I do have a PS1 Emulator from about 3 or so years ago but I never really used it. I guess I'll have to resort to that if I can't find it on eBay or Amazon or something.

Alright well, thanks, I'll definitely try all those out. :D

  • @joshp011 Alright I agree with the Good graphics part and all that, and I love all the classic games, but I have to admit I really did like Mass Effect and Fallout 3.

  • @cullotte3:

Just to clarify, I don't hate all new games. I just hate new gamers, haha. Or at least the ones that won't give older games a chance or say a game is "gay" before having played it.

I sort of do want to try Mass Effect 1/2 and Fallout 3 as I've heard they're both good games, but out of the 3 current gen consoles I only have a Wii, so obviously I can't try them at the moment.
