  • @mufcrulz no, if you search tsunami in thailand there is a clip were it shows about a minute before it and and a minute after it.

  • Is it really the one in Thailand? It also could have been a smaller one in 2007 Hawaii.

  • People was just walking like it was a regular wave. Peolpe should have ran early, dont wait to it get 20 feet in front of you.

  • that must have been so scary

  • WE'RE FUCKED WE'RE FUCKED!

  • look

1 st the dad didn't know it whas so powerfull.

2 nd it was to late to run anyways. if they had runed outside they had been slaughtered!

  • No need to go hide... :/

  • THE GOD IS ALMIGHTY

  • my question is............... why wasnt the dad yelling at the people at the bottom to run faster? all hes doing is admiring it.

  • @Luisisadinosaur he had no idea how serious it was. the kids too were just like ''wow!! thats cool''. if i saw this i would probably assume its just a big wave, until the part where not even the shore stops it

and obviously the father at that time was thinking of his children first

  • all i gotta say to that man in the video is "your pissed bout the tsunami"

  • That's bad ass

  • chuck norris needs to stop cannon balling into the ocean.

  • Jesus Christ was not riding that wave if he was riding a wave ashore it would encompass the whole land mass before it was all said and done.

  • yea saying "jesus christ" like that is a great thing to say right before a tsunami hits

  • 0:25 sounds like the power lines shorted

  • I wish i was riding that wave

  • @theyellowk123 lol you crack me up " i wish i was riding that wave" :L

  • DIE

  • I can't even freaking watch the video because that 'Sony' computer ad on the right is taking up all of my computer's memory. Ffs..

  • To be honest I didn't know what a Tsunami was until 2004 tragedy. He was just checking it out curious of what was going on, and had no idea as most of us I'm sure what "mother nature" had in store for everyone. I would have been curious and filming as well. One of the best footage I've seen. You did an awesome job mate.

  • I didn't even know what a tsunami was until this happened in 2004. This guy grabbed some incredible footage of this tragedy, and as soon as he realized how dangerous it was he brought his family in to safety. I would have been curious and watching myself. That man, and his family are awsome. God Bless Mate

  • I live in Thailand far from this.

  • the wave in sumatra was huge, there is very little footage of it because anyone that was close enough to film it is dead!

  • ur dumb ur an ASS hahahha

  • u dumb shit....this is a normal tsunami...its deadly...it doesnt look like movie tsunamis because those of the movies didnt happpen ... thos are mega tsunamis...

  • well your a massive piece of shit

  • I cant even imagine being caught in that

  • That christmas was horrible.

  • @malelion no, it wasn't.. santa gave me a new bicycle ^^

  • that s the power of mother earth :O:O

  • BLIMEY!

  • OMG their were kids playing down

  • HOLY SHIT

  • Whats up with all the negative comments regarding the response of the father filming. He thought it was a large wave. He had no idea it was a Tsunami! You can tell he realized the severity of the impending wave when it smashed over the wall of trees and did not break on the shore, with that immense speed. Only then did he start to panic. He's human for God's sake, give him a break!

  • @ Scampergirl: Nicely said! It could also be that the man didn't even know what a tsunami was. I personally had never heard of the word tsunami until the tsunami on Boxing Day 2005.

  • @Scampergirl yip nice said. have a thumbs up from me x

  • @Scampergirl to bad that wave didnt give him a break...

  • @Scampergirl oh yeah? you could of survived by surfing the whole thing until it stopped. (if it ever did)

  • I've done my own little calculus on this film, and my estimates are that the wave broke about 120ft away from the board walk it splashes up onto, was travelling about 25mph after breaking, and the front was about 16ft tall when it broke.

I know the highest waves in this area were about 19ft above sea level.

Either way, one of the best tsunami films there is.

  • WOW!! I am glad the filmed it!

  • holy shit that wave is huge

  • I would have shit my pants.

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn :O

  • shit!

  • Scary...

  • Stop recording! Save your dum asses!!!

  • Umm, that's exactly what he did, mate. Did you watch the video?

  • Great stuff.

  • Whoa.

  • OMG!!

  • wow

  • no sorry, i think your the moron pussy for making such statements you cunt!!!

  • what? Did you say you were a moron pussy?! LOL!!!

  • feel the vibration then,RUN!

  • good flick

  • You hear that guys accent, bloody mavelous! Best footage eveah. "Why that wave must be 15' 20' tall easy" lmao!

  • I was there in patong just 2 weeks before this, i lived at this hotell to.

Such a strange feeling when i see this.

  • A lot of people stood and stared rather than running, most would never have seen anything like that before, and never realized what was coming.

  • RUUN TOOO THEE HILLS!!!

  • RUN FOR UR LIVES.. UP THE IRON

  • XD mad guys

  • the potential for makeshift shrapnel of crushed lawnchairs, broken glass and wood being flung for hundreds of feet is quite high, I think that getting his family inside was the best immediate plan, also for those that think that he should have done somethink to get away, in the moment that he filmed this how was he supposed to know the total intensity of what was to come? H prolly just thought that it was a couple of freakishly huge waves and that they would be over soon enough.

  • they was alright ...they was up high enough i think...RIP to those who didnt make it

  • Surely they would try n make themselves safe, instead of standing on the balcony watching it?!

  • If that was me i would be like "RUN MOTHERFUCKERS RUNN"

  • Hell, the father is so stupid. The wave came and he didn't film the most exciting moments although he is more than secure in his room. Instead of this, he just screams his fucking "kiddy kiddy kiddy"...

  • lol ikr?? like wtf! he was like 20 feet higher than the wave....

  • he thought was his first child rather than your "exciting moments"

did you have children? I think not...

  • crickey

  • such idiots commenting on this video, protect the family? in 29 seconds all he would do is get them to the bottom floor of their hotel where they would probably be flooded and consequently drowned.

  • The resort promised an unforgettable stay, but no one really took them seriously!

  • Good stuff Lol

  • the accent. Aussie :P

  • People surf 20 footers all the time.

  • yeah, but not a twenty footer that just keeps on coming and coming into the land and the damn thing doesnt even stop there. the wavelength of a tsunami is dozens of miles, if not more. its not a normal wave, its much more powerful.

  • how is he risking his families life theyre not in anymore danger than he is up on the balcony , they're not any safer inside the building so ???

  • omg i would crap my pants!

  • the ocean is fucked up

  • where r the surfers???LOL

  • idiot. you know how many people died?

  • oh shiatzu

  • impressionant

  • Dang, that looks scary as shit

Poor people, I don't even think they've recovered from that event yet.

    =[

  • Holy shit! Did you see those people below by the pool who stopped for a little bit? There was a good 10 seconds before that water got to them when the camera wasn't showing them anymore. Bet they're dead. Eerie.

  • i think they were running they saw and heard that shit

  • i didnt! where was it?

  • At 0:12 to 0:14. I'd be surprised if they got through the front doors of a building in time.

  • take d risk..

  • yeah - it would be grat if you would have been there. we could forget about your stupid postings.

  • LAWL

  • and they just stood there like dummys

  • damn thats nuts!

  • Okay.. I'm sorry but if you see a 15-20 ft wave coming right at you.. you don't wait for the wave to break.. to say..,"get in..get in"... you do it as soon as you see... :)..lol

  • i would definitely wai for it to break as you can see how awesome it looks :D

  • Well obviously.. you're a thrill seeker... but would you be willing to risk the lives of your wife and children.. because that's what that guy's doing... he's not thinking of their safety... I bet you'd grab a board and try to surf it.. lol.. :)

  • yea i suppose you are right actually, i definitely would have made sure my family were safe first, then i would have jumped into the tsunami for a bit of fun :) lol

  • that's easy to say if you're watching a video on youtube. truth is in a situation like that it's perfectly normal to be awed by what you see. what your senses are experiencing will occupy your brain enough to cause you to freeze in place and it may take a moment or two (or longer) before your survival instinct causes you to evade the danger. in this guy's case, his real mistake was not recognizing the danger of the wave BEFORE it broke on the wall.

  • Ha.... I've been in situations that have kept me at awe or a second or two.... but come on.. it takes 29 seconds for him to realize that there's danger approaching, protect the family ... guess some people just have the ability to process stuff faster than others... I guess it's what separates survivors.

  • actually yes, different people do have different abilities to process things. but the point remains, it's easy to criticize his reaction time when you're watching a video in your chair and not in the face of danger. i'm sure just about everyone who watched that wave took awhile to realize their gooses were cooked.

  • I guess to a certain degree you're right.... I am sitting in this chair... and "just watching this clip"... I watched it again... and realized something... He knew from the first 4 seconds that they were in danger... he said " Jesus Ch**t .. Look at that"..... bet he sold that video to National Geographic for a good chunk of change.. just like storm watchers do with their footage... if you get my drift :)

  • you might not have known this but moments before the footage you see here, he filmed a similarly large wave break harmlessly on the wall then recede back into the sea (saw it in one of the related videos). after seeing that wave bounce back out, he'd have every reason to believe the wave you see here wasn't going to be dangerous. once he did (after it jumped the wall) it only took about 4 seconds for him to react. the point i've been trying to make is he wasn't being irresponsible.

  • and you drank it.JK but how would you know
