So i'm wondering weither to get a Sony or a Canon. Currently i have an HDRCX100 by sony and it's alright for the little i use it but i'm progressively getting more into film and my need's for a better camcorder are coming nearer and nearer. By searching i'm personally finding that Canon makes crisper more vibrant videos which is what i'm looking for and Sony does but way way way way more expensive.

What's the difference between the HF11 and the HF S11? The first one costs $735 and the sencond one $1350, both in Amazon. However I can't find the reason for the second one to cost almost twice as much!

batoobah: Just got off the phone with Canon, the S stands for: Series...The HF 11 ony has 32 GB of memory, whereas the HF S11 has 64 GB. There are probably a few more uprades other than too. Sp basically the Sversions are a higher end model. Hope that helps.

Software stabilization sucks..I mean it..It's not reliable..On the contary, it makes video looks rough n pixelate..This is what I really hate from Sony..

The OIS on the Canon HF S10 and S100 sucks compared to the competition, and none of them competes with the amazing stability of Sony's Steadyshot technology found in XR500 and XR520.

I agree Magoo. How can two camcorders be compared like for like after the video has been converted on a computer and then uploaded to YouTube to be compressed further. The only way to compare them would be to have them both in your hand and look at the raw uncompressed files.

I have since found out that my graphics card was the problem.  I have a Pentium 4 Dual 3.2 GHZ with 4 meg of ram . I didn't think I needed a decent card at the time. My problem at this point is those people looking at my videos on YouTube don't have enough computer to watch. So I'm back to using SD videos.

Def HF100 for me! Colors are better and motion test was less choppy with it. I got a Sony 3.5" DVD camcorder right now and it makes way to much noise while recording. The only time you hear noise though, is during playback. Less moving parts is good.

I think canon Vixia HF100 is better than sony's HDR-Cx12. The colors are so different from each other. Canon has got all the vivid color while the other does not. Horray to canon Vixia HF100.

The difference in quality is very small and it's just a matter of taste I think. I like the Sony because it can also record in SD if needed and SD quality is much better than any previous SD models. In exchange, I don't like the glossy black finish, I hope this trend won't last too long! :)

I have the Vixia HF100 and love it but I noticed when I'm editing or using any of the players its pretty choppy. Its great when sent to YouTube. Whats with the choppy playback?

Your computer might not be fast enough. Many people end up converting it to mpeg4 or mpeg2 even. With enough bit rate you can't tell the difference (almost).

Just bought the Canon Vixia HF100 on newegg i couldnt find one bad review on this item really looking forward to trying it out. I've had sonys in the past and both times they went bad shortly after the warrenty expired and their customer service was a nightmare to deal with.

I don't think so, because the tape motor makes a buzzing wizzing noise. So sound is better on the HF100. It's also smaller, and no moving parts except for lens. HF100 seems like the winner to me.

How difficult would you say it is to take videos shot on the Canon Vixia and convert them for upload/playback on YouTube or the average computer? I've heard that the hi-def files are very intense to download, edit, and convert. Is it easy to burn DVDs as well?

actually you will be disappointed if you try to shot some action like a formula 1 race or being in a car that doing more that 140 mph,i liked this cam and loved the resolution but when i try to record my speedo dials in one of my cars after i pass the 140 mph i get this blue screen and this message about over buffer thing then stops recording,so i don't know if this happens with the canon or not,enjoy and good luck.
