  • Oh dear, is there any end to the criminality these fundie fascists will go to. Hopefully, they will be off of our streets for a vey long time, it would certainly make me feel safer.

  • (One of the five was Kortney Blythe who with her pre-born child was killed in an automobile accident about a month ago in Georgia. She was 28. Kortney was a graduate of Montreat College, which is near Asheville.)

  • Of the eight people who were arrested, five were from out of town and three were local. The local people were me and two of my children. The five were members of a group called Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, based in California. Despite all of their bragging, they did plead guilty. There generally was a difference between how my children and I acted on the ABT campus and the behavior of a couple of the Survivors, who were loud, especially AFTER or AS they were arrested.

  • this is freaking hilarious. These people come to our town, create a big stir on the local community college. whine & cry that their first amendment right is being violated, they post this video and comments about how they have never lost a case like this & that they will be suing the school. Make multiple comments over & over about all of that and when it comes to the day of their trial, they wimp out and plead guilty. How pathetic. Hopefully they will stay out of Asheville along with their kind

  • I agree...any building funded by the federal government is public property.

  • The badge they wear represents the law of the State of North Carolina, listen to what they say and comply with them. It's pretty simple. They did the right thing by arresting you all. The free speech argument is for court, not the police officers. All that could've been avoided had you complied.

  • you have to apply for the permits to do these things. if you want the right to force your opinion on someone, the the director of the "public property" must give sufficient warning to the surrounding public that your protests/rally, may be offensive or shocking. that brings attention to the facility or grounds so that they can make a decision if they want to be subjected to your material. i think the freedom of speech is the greatest amendment, closely followed by the right to bare arms.

  • Yes, he does have the authority to ask you to leave he's the vice president. I go to AB-Tech myself and if I saw idiots like this I would just laugh at them. I don't believe in abortion but making displays and shit and pretty much forcing your opinion on others is idiotic. Yes you do have free speech, but I bet any of you would turn away or laugh away a preacher that came onto campus trying to convert people. I hope you are all banned from campus cuz I will so laugh at you if I see you.

  • Look at the fat ass on that chick cop, LMFAO

  • id just leave, fuck that i dont want to get arrest

  • ...and our appeal was dismissed out of hand. One of my children was a student at AB Tech at the time he was arrested. He had just walked out of a human anatomy class when he joined us and was arrested. He is in the nursing program at ABT now. My daughter had been a student the semester before her arrest and the semester afterward, so she technically was a student there too, just inactive. She presently attends Montreat College. See lifeadvocates.blogspot.com -Meredith Eugene Hunt

  • She testified that she had been belly bumped by "one of the protestors." Neither I, nor my son or daughter had heard of his incident until the second trial, therefore we could not testify anything about it. The deputy said that it wasn't us that did it, but I believe the judge's instructions made the jury believe that we were guilty of the belly bump, as if we had done it ourselves. We were found guilty and fined. We appealed to the NC Court of Appeals, but our attorney missed a deadline...

  • ...He granted our motion to give instructions to the jury that included language from the NC Court of Appeals on the issue of trespassing on public property. That language said that we would have to have done something to negate our right to be on that public property. Holding signs would not have been one of those things. The second judge was a liberal Democrat and he would not allow our motion, rather he included instructions about guilt by association. A deputy testified that she...

  • Outcome: The Survivors all plead guilty so they would not have to spend the time and money traveling to Asheville for multiple court appearances. The three local people, myself and two of my children, underwent three trials, two of which were jury trials. The first jury trial in Superior Court was declared a mistrial when a jury member brought an AB Tech student manual into the jury room and said he had done his own research. The first judge was a conservative Republican. He granted...

  • What was the outcome of this? Were charges dropped? How did the court case go?

  • THE ENEMIES OF THE CONSTITUTION ARE DOMESTIC NOT FOREIGN!

  • tell me you guys did fight this in court..and please tell me THAT YOU SUED BOTH THE OFFICERS AND THE COURTS..someone please let us know!

  • Public Property or not. You CAN be asked to leave. Nobody is infringing on your freedom of speech rights. You were asked to leave and you didn't. The officers did nothing wrong

  • 0:38 -- "Is there anything I can do or say at this point right now to gain your voluntary compliance in order for you to leave this property?"

Sorry, officer, but Verbal Judo does not work on me.

  • i would probably laugh in your face if I passed you by demonstrating against abortion... but this video really looks like you had the right to demonstrate against whatever you wanted. you should not have been arrested.

  • WTF!????????????????

  • Why are people arrested for using their freedom of speech??? What country is this??? Just for the record. I am PRO abortion. I don't believe in God or Allah. However I do believe in justice for all!!!!

  • Dude I go to AB tech and why are you starting trouble.

  • The First Amendment to the Constitution grants Americans to have the right to Freedom of Speech in the public square. These individuals were exercising that right by attending a public college and speaking out against Abortion.

Sometimes police and administrators abuse their authority by unlawfully arresting and removing our group from public areas, to silence our message. A public college campus is a traditional venue to explore and express personal views.

  • Cock

    Letus

    Tomato??

    -----------

Fuck you for making a scene. why are they only bothering your group and not the other peop!3 ar0und you?

  • Can someone please tell me what is free speech and why do people get arrested for commiting it ?

  • I hear alot about cops suck and all that, that is until you need one then they are your best friend. You can't have your cake and eat it too. If they were protesting for abortion many of you would be asking them to stay. I think they had a valid point but, need to protest at the voting booth, like not for that moron OBAMA the abortion loveing liberal.

  • colleges are for the purpose to protesting it is part of learning process for politics.

  • ha i love that tree!! I love ab tech!! lol funny vid!!!

  • I remember this.. lol it was hilarious!

  • did ya guys sue?? what happened after that?? let me know you got eveidence on tape!!

  • I believe there is a fine line between expressing your free speech and going in with the intent of making a scene. Clearly, the people of this video went in with the latter intention.

  • i would sue the school and the police and the manager

  • They are right it is public property however the manager of the property has the right to make them leave. If you loud mouth mother fuckers would just stop bitching about everything stuff like this would not happen

  • You are wrong. I have no idea what is being protested, but where can people protest govt activity, if not on public property? If they were obstructing access or verbally abusing people or disrupting others activity, they should be removed. this is a Constitutional issue. You say you are in the Army; what rights do you think you are fighting for?The right to quietly protest in the privacy of your own home, as long as no one can see/hear you? I would like to know what went on before the vid starts.

  • unfortunately for the people that got arrested. they will not be able to bring up a law suite against the police b/c they were legaly arrested. the caretaker of the property aske u people to leave and thats enough to put u away. even if it is public property.

  • If you can be arrested for being obnoxious anyplace there's a caretaker, why don't the Phelps family members get arrested when they are disturbing a funeral?

I'm pretty sure there's a caretaker at any given cemetary.

  • Great come back! They should be arrested and put to jail for life. It's insane that this country lets people like them walk around and disturb mourning families, but arrest other people on shit charges

  • then what does the first amendment mean? the right to assemble and protest on public property unless anyone says not to? nonsense. frightening that you have an opinion, but didn't put any thought whatsoever into it. this is why the world is heading into the crapper. "have it your way" from bk is NOT in the Constitution....it is not really a 'right'.

  • im all for freedom of speech and what not and im a big fan of the constitution, but i did a little research on this type of situation and read that the caretaker of the property can kick you out. that doesnt mean i like that law im just sayin.i hope that i am wrong and this is not the case but once again thats just what i read. God Bless America.

  • "i'm all for FoS but....". that is not America. As I said, if one cannot assemble and practice FS on public property, then please explain the meaning of the 1st Amendment. Further, no local, state or federal law overrides the Constitution or BoR. Herein lies the problem: Americans now say "well, there's a law that says x, so it must be legal". or "they've done x for a long time, so it's legal". So slavery is legal because the SC said its ok, and it was done for a long time? No.

  • Dont think that im taking the cops' side, im just making the point that they were being obnoxious, and were not wanted there by the majority of the students and faculty.

  • your argument is awful. you only have free speech if people like what you are saying? then there would be no reason to have it as a right. Popular speech doesn't need protection. the comments on this vid are truly frightening.

  • @avlkush ya, it because a problem when it starts creating problems. but i dont know what happened before this vid

  • Ima student at abtech, and i remember when these assholes were hanging around campus. Just about everyone wanted them to leave cuz they were there day after day spouting their evangelical pro-life bullshit and making people feel uncomfortable. Its not like they were just asked to leave right away, they were there for weeks, and i know the abtcc vice president, he is a pretty nice guy and not unreasonable in the least.

  • can you not simply "not listen" for 1 day, to respect the Constitution? doesn't seem like much to ask in a "free" country. I listened to speech I disagreed with throughout all levels of school and life. I am still here.

  • We should kill all the cops

  • killing would be too harsh maybe something less distructive but still doing the same thing: Getting rid of cops

  • nice civil disobedience

  • It's True No One Can Kick You Off A Public Property If They DoThey Are Breaking The Constitution...

  • Spydyee - isn't your statment, that these folk's protest is just as bad as abortion, kind of ridiculous? I mean, according to you, your own religion says abortion is wrong. I really seriously doubt your religion thinks showing some disturbing pictures is as bas as abortion.

  • The frustrating thing about this is that the people that were protesting had absolutely no respect for the students that wanted them gone. We have early college students that are minors that attend AB Tech. These kids are as young as 14 and 15 years old and these people were asked repeatedly by the paying students of the school to leave our campus. Finally after we complained enough the administrators did something.

  • We pay our tuition and we did not want them there.

  • cops suck nwo following pussies

  • What a bunch of igornat tools.

They were found guilty today of trespassing. This was not "Public Property" and they do no have a right to shove, harass, and intimidate people. They should go back to Russia if they think they have the "rights" to do this.

  • Yet another vindication for me leaving Asheville...from top to bottom: bitter little leftist anti-human establishment worms. They get so threatened when they see REAL rebels taking a courageous position.

  • U know whats wild is in Austin Texas the police defend hate groups from attacks by pissed off bystanders, they provide protection 2 hate groups

  • that takes alot of courage 2 do what yall have done, way 2 go.

  • Now why do you call this unlawful arrests?

  • Is this really a constructive way to spread the Gospel? You come off as would-be martyrs, and rather ridiculous. Remember that Jesus warns us not to "cast our pearls before swine," wasting our time on those who don't want to hear. He also admonishes us to not be like the Pharisees, making a big show of righteousness, publicly patting themselves on the back for being so pious. They have their reward. Jesus commands us to pray in secret and our Father, who sees in secret, will reward us.

  • These people arent 'spreading the gospel'

They are spreading hate and intollerance. They were arrested because they were getting violent with bystanders, and were not on "public Property"

They were found guilty in court earlier today.

These people hide behind the Constitution, when in reality, they do not even believe in Freedom of Speech.

  • I hope the city and the college are in major debt after they got sued. Big mistake on the part of the cops.

  • I am a student of this school and They were behaving in an aggressive manner toward tuition paying students that have the right to attend this school without being threatened and intimidated. Anytime you try to exercise free speech you have to temper that with respect for the basic civil liberties of others. You see I could have sued the school for negligence if I had been hurt by one of these people. Luckily no one was hurt but there was a close call.

  • Amen to that.

  • wow you pro life asses must not like education

  • hey i know that cop lol

  • you should kill him

  • No university, public or private, is altogether public property, so long as every student is required tuition or tuition deferment.

  • Thank You. I pay tuition and I have a right to not have to be bombarded by people pushing their agenda.

  • My daughter is now working with Survivors, I can ask her how things stand.

  • Why is it that every protester thinks they have a better grasp of the law than the police? Do any of them ever wonder why when they go to court and use their argument of being on public property it never works?

The camera man said he would be suing the police officer but thats just ignorant. Whether or not he is is breaking a law being there protesting he clearly does not have a grasp of the law. Its like entering a game where you dont know the rules, its going to set you up to lose.

  • This is where you are wrong, this group is very careful to ALWAYS stay within the law. They have workshops and camps to educate their volunteers so that they do NOT break any laws. If you notice, the kids always ask the same questions, because they KNOW they are right and the campus people are wrong. The fact is they do NOT lose in these cases. What is frightening is when law enforcement is ignorant to the law's they are supposed to uphold.

  • They pushed a kid. I witnessed that so don't give me that "they stay within the law" crap. Laying hands on anyone is battery and is against the law.

  • Listen to the liberal scum cheer. Liberals love it when others 1st ammendment rights are destroyed that dont agree with them.

  • who cares that they got arrested they where in my way at school and they look gay

  • My husband is career law enforcement (Sheriff's Dept Sgt, Homicide Detective, Head of Crisis Resolution Team, & Chief Deputy Coroner). He said those people getting arrested are HEROES. They are the ones standing up for YOUR rights. All you who are casting aspersions on their character? Because of people like them, YOU have the right to say what you want. As a cop, my husband said the kids were in the right, the police and the campus manager messed up big time. God bless the Survivors!!

  • In that case where does the lawsuit stand?

  • There is no lawsuit and they were convicted of trespassing in court.

  • ya me to it was bull those cops r fucking retared they need to suck balls!

  • i was there...

    it was some bull..

  • If the cops did that to me

I would never for give them

And I would spend my life making them wish they was dead

  • Was there any legal challenge to these arrests?

  • That college sucks. Figures, since its a technical college. In GA, most material from tech colleges do not transfer over to real colleges. Alot of people have been screwed over by not knowing this little fact, which they end up wasting years of their life not getting any credit.

  • Our college is great. Most of our classes do transfer and if a person can read, the catalogs clearly explain which classes meet the articulation agreement requirements for transfer to our state universities. You don't know our school or our students. We did not want these people here and our administrators listened to the students and removed them. We, the students, have rights too. We have the right to have a quiet peaceful campus and they disturbed that peace.

  • You morons saying it is "their property"...

We all payed for it and it is OUR property, public property... How hard is it to educate people at school again? ..And this nation is becoming a police what? What's the constitution?

Did you hear the cop in the background say 'they're right'? Maybe you idiots could ask her, i bet she could tell you... or at least give you oral sex in handcuffs =P

  • thats not how it works silly. man the people are actually intentionally getting themselves arrested trying to prove a point that is incorrect. i feel sorry for you all

  • I am a former student of ab-tech, and I was actually at school the day the protesters were arrested. I am also pro life. But if you are not a student or faculty at ab-tech you have no business on campus.

  • Why not? Public property is supported by tax dollars, and therefore belongs to the public (or community) who pays taxes.

  • no silly. you dont understand

  • Well hell i pay tuition and i dont want them guys there. And i got way more tuition in that place than an individual does in tax dollars.

  • Wow!

    You guys are awesome!!!

    Arrested for contempt of cop!!!

  • just because it is public property doesn't mean that the manager can't ask you to leave. even if you are protesting they can ask you to leave from their property.

  • Public property means owned by the people, not the "manager." The "manager" didn't pay for the property, taxes do, and that means everyone "owns" the property.

  • no thats not what it means. nice try though

  • actually yes it is.

  • it's not their property to say for you to leave. it'e property of each and every citizen to use @ their leisure.

  • Free Speech, baby. Tough if you don't like it it's our rights as sovereign individuals.

  • Protesting is so stupid. Search youtube for the word "protesters" and all u see is protesters getten arrested. Never a protester accomplishing anything.

  • I am not for pro life. However it is clear that free speech must be protected.

  • Despite popular belief, college campuses are NOT public property. That cop was more than fair with those pro-life idiots.

  • Does not make to much sense to me either. But does this mean that I have right a to go into any school building and just hang out there with out being kicked out. Because it is public property.

  • damn all those pigs there like there was a BOMB thats fuckin stupid as shit

  • survivors...what did they survive from?

  • The generation that has been born since the onset of Roe v. Wade is known as the Abortion Survivor Generation. Every child in the womb runs the risk of being killed by abortion. Every child that makes it to birth is a survivor.

  • haha i see a big ol'buadocker police woman!!

  • This is an example of some fine officers who tried to reason with people who have a naive understanding of the law and constitution. By their rationale, you could do this at an elementary school.

  • TeganX7, you must not have read through our comments. We know our rights on college campuses better than any of these naive police officers- and it has been proven over and over again. Did you notice the police wouldn't answer the question?

  • The naiveness is yours. If this college was to allow other groups, especially of an opposing viewpoint, to have their say on the campus, then they would be obligated to allow pro-life people to have their say, as well.

What this does show is that college campuses are not the bastions of free speech and expression that they would have us beleive.

  • I love see you guys got arrested....find a better job...sorry I guess you guys can't find a better job with all those arrests on record...LOL

  • You seem to be forgetting something... arrest doesn't mean conviction... and dozens of DAs across the country can't all be wrong in dropping the charges. They wouldn't have a case in court.

  • Guess you lost this one! Buncombe county is not the kind of place where you can pull that crap. We are the most liberal county in Western North Carolina but more importantly we are the most respectful of individual rights. You disrespected the rights of the students on that campus and of our kids. YOU LOSE!

  • Damn, I was hoping to see some douchebags get tasered. Public protests are such worthless and annoying practices.

  • Tell that to heroic people who joined Martin Luther King Jr. in his (effective) public protests of racism and segregation... "worthless and annoying"? I think not.

  • Protests are when we do something in front of a Planned Parenthood, or the capitol, or something. This was an educational display/demonstration/visit.

  • BULL It stopped being educational when you began harassing students.

  • I find it funny that they have someone waiting to take care of their camera, displays, and van when their free speech rights are being "infringed upon". To me, that just shows that they were planning on getting arrested.

  • Most colleges drop the case because they don't want to waist more of the tax payers' money on lawyer fees. It's already a waist of time for the administration, whose salaries are paid for with tax payers' money. So the way I see this, these guys just cost me money! (no big deal for most of them since they aren't from North Carolina!)

  • The county prosecuted the case and they were convicted.

  • Correction- the Survivors were prepared to be arrested. We have been targeted on campuses across the US because of our pro-life outreach, and we would be foolish to pretend it can't happen on any campus.

  • So, in essance getting arrested was the sole reason behind the protest. Nowhere in the video did anyone state what they were protesting. Are you protesting to get arrested, or do you actually believe what your protesting and think that protesting it will result in some action? I can't tell because I didn't know what it was all about until now.

  • Actually the essence is that they were determined to exercise their first amendment rights, even though they were aware of the possibility of being arrested. Harassment & arrest are often used to freeze the exercise of free speech. The brave continue on in spite of the threat.

  • Actually they are the "victims" of our free speech. We wanted them gone. We expressed that to our administrators. The administrators listened to the "ACTUAL STUDENT MAJORITY" and removed them.

  • Actually it shows that they have learned from experience. In the last 20 years, this has been the ongoing answer to people exercising their first amendment rights in the arena of abortion specifically pro-life people. I have never seen a pro-abortion person treated this way.

  • Because people don't need to protest FOR abortion. Roe v. Wade made abortion LEGAL to any person who hasn't yet reached the third trimester of pregnancy. Pro-abortion individuals do not need to demonstrate. If you live under the laws of the United States government then you should be pro-choice.

  • that's because prochoice protests are generally peaceful ones, at my university prolifers jumped on people cars i don't mean to sound biased, but prolife protests are generally more aggressive

  • Those in charge of a campus have the authority to make you leave. Because it is public property does not mean one can do whatever they want on it. There are rules and guidelines to follow on a college campus. If an arrest is illegal then you would have no problem winning in court nor would you have any problem with a lawsuit. Get in line. This is simply a demonstration of no respect for other people. If anything the tapes further enforce the legality of police action, and for that we thank you.

  • We will win. The charges will be dropped and we will win the lawsuit. You'll see. We've never lost. We don't get arrested frivolously. We know our law and our rights.

  • I really doubt it. You don't understand you pretty much solidified your result in court due to your tape. Anyway what were you protesting? Seems like you were more concerned causing problems for the police rather than voicing your protest. By the way it is private property, public campus. Obviously you need to sharpen up on your laws/rights.

  • You really should do more research. Our tape is certainly in our favor. When you have been arrested as many times as the Survivors, you certainly learn your rights fast. We were on the right side of the law.

  • Your tape is definatly not in your favor. Your refusing to leave when asked. It is that simple. We actually talked about this at our dept the other day. We were all amused at the textbook actions made by police and your obvious refusal to follow any sort of requests resulting in your arrest. I appreciate what you do in regards to taking a stand for pro-life. However, keep it about pro life and not about the police.

  • sorry again your wrong . nobody has the right to ask anybody to do anything against their will on public property. being a law enforcement officer does not give you special rights

  • no silly. police dont have the right to tell people to do something, they have the authorization and the responsibility. if officers were allowed to tell people to move out of the movie theater line while theyre off duty, that would be called the right. but thats not the case now is it. and trust me officers dont ask people to leave just because. the person who has rights or is responsible for the prop asks the police to ask them. nice try though

  • circusboy90210 said; "sorry again your wrong . nobody has the right to ask anybody to do anything against their will on public property. being a law enforcement officer does not give you special rights "

This School is not considered "Public Property", which is why they were found guilty in a court of law today.

  • HMMMM.... Well there is a first time for everything. Welcome to Buncombe County NC.

  • I am on a University Campus, and have noticed that the conservative groups are almost always run off, and the progressives or islamofascists are given the run of the place.

I say it is time for conservatives to start acting like the others, and refusing to go...

God Bless You for bringing the Abortion Holocaust to the attention of the public!

  • Conservative groups are not always run off. Police do not have the luxury to choose which protest is allowed to continue. I am conservative and I support any anti-abortion effort. However, professionally we cannot choose sides. If the goal is an to be arrested one can accomplish this without any malice towards the police.

  • How did the Survivors show malice towards the police? By our insistence upon being told the truth about the reason for our arrests? That is not disrespect or malice - it is the right (and duty) of every citizen to hold police accountable for their actions.

  • Hold the police responsible for their actions? What actions are those? Enforcing the right for people to get an undistracted education? Or asking you to leave and you refusing? Again, this confirms the fact that you were just out to get attention and protest the police for enforcing the law. Because, you know its always the police dept's fault.

  • I was there and several of us students asked you to leave our campus. We explained to you that there were underage children that attend "early college" as part of a collaborative agreement between AB Tech and Buncombe county schools. We asked you to go elsewhere. When you disrespected our community we asked the administrators to remove you. Take a hint. WE EXERCISED OUR FREE SPEECH RIGHTS TO GET YOU REMOVED! You are not welcome because of your aggressiveness and lack of respect for our kids.

  • The reason the conservative groups are run off is because by in large conservative groups have the greatest disregard for individual freedoms of the students. The "God is with us" mentality causes most conservative groups to attack people and their individual freedoms in order to attempt to enforce their moral perspectives. If you want to state your opinion do so in a respectful manner.

  • so, how did this unfold? did you guys win in court. i really do respect how you handled yourseves... it was awfully stubborn of them to ignore you. he even asked what he could say. you told him, he repeats himself... blind ignorance... its sad... really sad.

  • It will take a while to figure out the legal result - most of the time schools back down once they have had the opportunity to review their (lack of) legal standing. We'll post the results when we have news.

  • Does anyone know what happened to the students in court??

  • We will find out on January 22, 2008.

  • They were convicted!

  • The administration has the right to administrate what they're paid to administrate.

  • Administrators also have the responsibility to administrate the college properly - by respecting the legal rights of citizens present on the campus.

  • Well what were you doing there?

  • Legally exercising our right as citizens to educate students on a federally funded public college campus.

  • No, I mean what specifically... "Educated" as in...? I'm guessing since you're trying to avoid the question it's something that looks bad for your side of the story.

  • "Educated" as in using science (biological facts, photos, and medical diagrams) and logic to demonstrate the personhood of all humans (inherent value from conception to death) and the inhumanity and immorality of abortion.

  • Well were you yelling?...

    Were the pics too graphic?...

  • We have early college kids on our campus as young as 14. The pictures were way too graphic. The people were yelling and handing out literature. If a person refused the literature they were called names that insinuated that they were either contributing to the killing of these fetuses or that they were ignorant or stupid.

  • Several students asked them to go the UNC Asheville which does not have the younger kids on campus. They told me personally that they wanted the kids to see these pictures even if their parents would not want that. I asked them is they would try to go to my child's school and show my child these pictures and they said yes. I have a developmentally challenged child and if he saw those picture he would have nightmares. He is also very naive about sex even though he is 15.

  • He easily could have been in early college. He will be eligible to apply for early college next year. They would have attempted to show him the pictures and talk to him without my consent. That is disrespecting my parental rights. If the government considers me responsible for his actions (and they do just ask DSS) then I have the right to decide what he can and cannot see as does every parent of every early college student there.

  • We tried to reason with these people to no avail. As a student of AB Tech I and many of my peers do not want them there. We also do not want their rivals there either. We want a quiet campus where we can discuss ideas with each other in an academic way rather than in an inflammatory manner. As a conservative woman and a mother I was disgusted by their behaviors. My religious beliefs teach that abortion is a morally reprehensible action. However, what they did was equally as reprehensible.

  • I applauded when I heard that these fools were arrested. AB Tech does a wonderful job in keeping the campus about education and turning away anyone who would infringe upon the rights of the student body as a whole to be immersed in a learning environment. The ONLY reason that these idiots came to campus was to start trouble. Asheville is a liberal town. AB Tech is a mostly liberal school. This "anti-abortion" campaign was designed with the sole purpose of ending in an arrest.

  • If our sole purpose was to get arrested and we're from California, wouldn't we be getting arrested every day? But, no; we've been arrested one time in all of California out of over 100 schools. Therefore, you are wrong. The fact that Asheville is liberal should mean that they are more "tolerant" of other people's viewpoints and that they understand the first amendment.

  • We were educating in a learning environment. No one's rights were infringed upon besides those arrested. Please educate yourself before making ignorant comments.

  • The "yelling" occurred for only one minute out of 2.5 hours. You heard it all on the video. "May" have experienced anguish. Don't you know? One of those arrested was a full-time day student at AB-Tech. Also, a PARENT of two full-time day students was arrested. Outdoor, general use spaces on public university campuses are "traditional free speech forums" for students and visitors.

  • For the person who wrote, "This is state property and is not for public use"...Can you explain what kind of property can be used for public purposes? And is that property owned by the state?

  • I'm a full time student and was offended by the material and the"yelling" which may attribute the mental anguish I may have experienced. None of them were students at AB tech. They did not have a permit. This is state property and is not for public use. Eg.non students who have no business on ab tech are not allowed. Full time students had asked administrators to make them leave because they were interfering with their educational environment.

  • There was indeed one member of ABTech arrested in the group. And FYI for citizens of the US - you can use state property for public use, especially college campuses.

  • We r the state

  • The fact that the property is public or private makes no difference. what they were doing was considered a "demonstration" and requires a permit from the city in order to have a *LEGAL* demonstration.

so I hope this kids read up on some law before they try anything again

  • and btw I am a very conservative person in my beliefs and values, but what they did was illegal.

  • The state may make anything they want illegal...doesn't mean they're right or even Constitutional, for that matter. Whether the requirement for approval is constitutional is dubious, and since when do we, the people, *derive* our rights from the state?

We follow the law of the land until they violate the Law of the Law-Giver.

Certain rights are protected and "self-evident",at least that's what the Founders said.

  • nahtEsmailliWcM... you really should read up on your case law before making statements about "demonstrations" and their legality on public property. FYI - any citizen can peacefully carry a sign on a public street corner.

  • case law twists the Constitution to Some ones Fucked values hot to reality

  • And it has been proven repeatedly in court that citizens can hold the same signs (and distribute literature) on a public college campus sidewalk just like street corners. Check your facts.

  • the constitution says nothing about asking to use your rights

  • An interesting idea would be to do 2 protests each on different days but in the same spot...the first one using pictures of cancer-ridden lungs in protest of smoking...then do one in against abortion w/pictures.

Whether what you did was illegal or not; what you did was *right*.

  • Thanks for coming to Asheville, NC.....

I did an hour long program that will be aired on URTV Public Access TV which will air ten or more times the next two months.

See clips @ Sound Off Buncombe at You Tube..

    Thanks

  • Amazing! I guess defending the lives of innocent, unborn human beings is a crime in America today. I'm glad I'm already born. Then again, how much longer do we have in America until the lives of older innocent human beings are destroyed due to unjustified, pragmatic reasons.

  • This is a clear violation of our First Amendment rights. This college is public property. The protestors were being peaceful and they were NOT disrupting the classes. My guess is that if they had been members of NARAL or any of the other pro-choice organizations they would have been allowed to stay. This looks like a good case for Federal court!

  • if one penny of federalbfunds is there it's public p
