When do you think Magnus Carlsen figured out the final position? Because it seems to me that possibly he calculated which move by the immediate necessity and, therefore, could win. But maybe he calculated everything 5-10 moves earlier (what is more interesting). I a beginner. What do you think?
What amazes me here is the foresight by Carlsen. Did he know after QSC followed Qc2 that his opponent's attack wouldn't have a continuation? Certainly. But how was he so conivnced of the superiority of his position that he could go down a Rook? Did he foresee the B&N corner mate threat or the discovered attack against the black Rook? Because he's losing up to that very point. It's possible he just stuck to principles, took a risk and got lucky, but I doubt it.
thanks for all the videos, this was an exciting game, well it was going to be geared up to be with opposite sides castling. and a hell of a lot different to the snooze-fest that was the World Chess Championship candidates tournament
Great game, and awesome kibitzing as usual. Thanks Jerry! I wonder where do you place Carlsen on the all-time rankings as of now? I used to think he gets overrated for his young age, but now I'm kinda sold that he is top5 already. (:
@Neueregel15:00. Would'nt there be a better continuation for black in that manner possibly preventing white knight to f6 even if white takes black bishop at b2
Thanks so much. I love watching your videos-- from Twitter! I'm also a big Starcraft II fan, which I find to be Chess in real time. I'm about ~1900 rating in chess, but I like Starcraft II even more!
three chess facts : 1 : Tal was regarded one the best attacking GM's and petrosian as one of the best defensive . 2. soviet union in 1930 banned chess players from playing more than 1 player at a time in blindfold chess due to health hazard !.3. soviet research in 1950's showed that playing chess with only one eye open in average player causes rating to fall by over 100 points !

how abt kf8 instead of 0-0-0 for black? I really feel castle short is extra brave move for white! certainly g5,g4 can do something...

That must be one of Magnus' best games ever. I'd be really scared having to play against an opponent like that :-) Congrats, Magnus.

a good but also typical carlsen game. superior understanding of complex positions.
Classical chess is not dead at all, thanks to players like Kasparov, Carlsen, Shirov and others.

@ 15:04, I think the problem with black going Bxb2 is that white can simply move Be7, preparing a simple mate of Bd6.

That's why Magnus is where he is in the chess world.

At @14:19 it seems to me the only line to play is Bxf6 Nxf6 Nc5 check and then Rc2 if the king goes for the night.
