  • its not a 4.6 litre engine its a 4.5 thats why its called a tvr chimaera 450....................my dads got one aswel see loland i fucking loves it !!!!

  • @FML525 - no it's a 4.6 - TVR just branded it the 450. Had the same 4.6 V8 as my Range Rover. The actual 4.5 Rover V8 never went into a Chimaera - just the 4.0, 4.3, 4.6 and 5.0 engines

  • @3doorpete nope ure wrong.............still its a good car

  • @FML525 LOL - not going to argue over 100cc, but check your dad's log book or spend 30 secs on google/TVR forum. Wikipedia Rover V8 - halfway down. read 4.5, 4.6 sections. 4.6 engine in all Chimaera 450's - 4552cc. Believe me - I've owned several cars with Rover V8's and 2 cars with the 4.6 rover v8 in them.

  • @3doorpete okay then (Y)

  • @FML525

    For fuck's sake, it's 4556cc - that rounds up to 4.6.

I know - I've got the V5 for mine in front of me now!

  • @MrHistorian123 i dont really care tbh mate

  • @FML525 No - you don't like being proved wrong, I think.

  • @MrHistorian123 nope ure still wrong its cuz i actually dont care im happy with my tvr sitting in the garage at home so why would i care about something like this good one (Y)

  • @3doorpete Ignorance is bliss,eh ? The 4.6 is a different (later) engine. They can be retro-fitted, but were not put into any original production Chims, and of course the TVR engines were modified, different cam, different exhaust manis, sometimes larger valves etc. NOT the same tune as in a Range Rover.

  • @grahamw56 - Ignorance is bliss?!?! WTF - how late then? Enlighten me? ALL CHIMAERA 450's had the 4552cc engines (rounded to 4.6). No Chimaeras had the 4.5. The engine is fundamentally the same as the Range Rover - yes with different cams, manifolds and ECU to get the power gains. I never said identical to Range Rover - but the bore and stroke and 95% parts are the same.

  • @3doorpete if someone begins their arguments by calling you ignorant or dumb, its usually not worth trying to reason with them

  • @3doorpete the Chimaera 450's RV8 has 4,495ccm. Where does your 4,552 come from? Oh yea from your Range Rover.

  • @danielbum912 WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chimaera pages has it wrong - wikipedia, and my V5 was right

  • @3doorpete hm. wikipedia says 4495

  • @danielbum912 wikipedia Rover V8 - read half way down re: 4.5 and 4.6. My log book said 4552cc. My engine block said 4552cc. My insurance cerftificate that I'm looking at says 4552cc. My research in buying a 450 instead of a 500 as being the sweetest engine in my view - said 4552. The same engine, badged 4.6 HSE was in the P38 Range Rovers produced 96 onwards (mine was actually a 4 litre). The 4495cc RV8 never went in a Chimaera.

  • @3doorpete i see what you mean there. on the other hand the wikipedia article on the Chim 450 states 4495ccm. i think it's time to disassamble your unit and measure it once and for all. ;)

  • @danielbum912 - Alas - I sold it over a year ago to make space for more motorbikes :-(

  • Hey!!... noise not... music!! lol... TVR have music on motor.

  • TVR V8s are awesome!

  • i sore one of these at a place full of imports.... my friend asian friend was giving me all these hectic specs of all these fancy japanese cars.... then i sore one of these... i was like XD... but my ricer friend just looked at me and said "whats that" lol

  • how something from rover could make that noise is insane to think about! although not too insane if you think that it was a copied design from buick

  • sounds like satan taking a shit.

  • Love how it rocks the car

  • Mmmmm hmmm.

  • nice sound

  • jizzed.

  • the most badass european cars on the planet are TVR

  • What's that engine, did TVR make by itself?

  • @HeroCna - it's the Rover V8 - 4.6 litre, with TVR ECU. about 285bhp.

  • @3doorpete I don't want to sound stupid, and i know this car is very light, and it goes like hell, but how come that with 8 cylinders, and 4600 ccm, it has only 285 bhp? 285 kw maybe?

  • @henkkaS4 - It's cos the engine was designed in 1961 by Buick and had 1980's ECU technology. It's a very long stroke low revving V8 (peak power is at 4750rpm) so they don't produce that much power for their capacity(but lots of torque). The engine's main plus point was an all aluminium block making it a very light V8 (relative to others of the time)

  • Woa the whole car shakes

  • nice sound dude

  • God! When it revs up sounds like an aston martin v8, but when it's idling, sounds like an old american v8... i love it!

  • Well it IS an old american v8 thats why,

Used to be a buick engine, then rover bought the rights, then tvr borrowed it to put in there cars,

    It's brilliant.

Personally if i had a chim or a griff or any tvr for that matter it wouldn't have a stereo, cause I would have that magnificent noise to listen to. Well, i don't think that anyone could make a stereo loud enough to be heard over a tvr anyways :)

  • I agree, that it's really awesome!

Anyway i didn't knew that it was originally american, but that explain the way it sounds.

    Thanks for the lesson ;)

  • what about the cat do u have to remove it????

  • pre-cats still in headers and main car still up front too. Not touched. If you decat it and do the exhaust sleeving, you have a full straight through system on a V8. Bit too much noise really

  • @3doorpete i love noise tho. but if you get pulled over you can get a ticket cause of the sound... so that kinda sucks. if i would own a chimmy i would remove the silencers so it gets that raw v8 sound.

  • No problem with police. They get a bit antisocial ifyou remove the cats as well, but still no real issues - Police target the chavs in suped up Corsa's.

  • tks for ur help so i guess will do that to mine pretty soon cause urs really sound fear like all tvr should be

  • hi i have a chim 400 and leave in kl malaysia was wondering what is the meaning of sleeved silencers???means bigger???i want mine to sound just like urs tks for ur help

  • They cut open the back boxes on the silencer and weld in a metal tube/sleeve, to make it straight through, then weld up the silencer box again. Means that you have the original exhaust (which is factory made stainless steel) but with a sports exhaust sound.

  • thay are quite cheap for a second-hand one

  • I love this car , Im saving up for one

  • same im saving with you listen to the engine when he takes the throttle of it is so much like the myura concept i love it

  • If you live in England, you're in luck. You can pick up a used one in quite good condition for around £10,000 A real bargain!

  • This one is particularly good. The guy I sold it to has it up for sale at a dealers for £15K at the moment. Bit toppy, but it's only done a warranted 12K miles

  • That just sounds glorious!

Must... resist... urge... to buy one...

Common sense.... failing... heart... rulling... head....

  • evil. LOVE IT :D

  • Sooo sooo sick. All TVR's are just plain wicked. Too bad they are too "unsafe" for the States!! Should be buy at you own risk! But then we'd have tons of dead rich men everywhere.....

  • The torque effect only seems really noticeable when you rev it hard and fast, is that correct? What kind of engine mounts does the Chimaera utilize?

  • That's right - its the sudden application of torque that twists the engine. Not sure about the mounts - believe they are just usual type with polyurothane bushes

  • Was this the Rover V8 or the AJP V8?

  • 4.6 litre Rover V8

  • well fuck me sideways and call me cindy, that is fucking wicked!!

  • yes Cindy, it is!

  • more , we need more , wow what a sound . was in a 500 v8 griffith at xmas , thought that sounded good .

  • ohh nice one!! i was seriously thinking about getting one but i had an rs escort and i put one of those loud exhausts on it and it never ran right after that?!?!? and was just wondering if the tvr would be the same?? what a monster sounding car!!!!!!!!

  • it didn't run right because it was a ford :p

  • do they run ok without the cat's and the modded exhaust??? or do they keep popping and backfireing and cutting out??

  • The cat is still in, they just cut open the rear silencers (which are not a baffled design anyway) and weld a thin sleeve in to make them straight though. Pops and bangs on the overrun, but that is down to the primitive Rover V8 engine management.

  • Finally a clip of a great sounding tvr without crap music in the back ground , if only i could afford one ,

  • @fatthinslim you can find them for around 5000 now

  • To be honest, I think thats why you seem to get alot bits drop off inside the older trevs! My old wedge used shake, rumble & twist when ya gave it some juice! That Chim of your looks the D/B in yellow, I WANT ONE!!!! Its not over till the phat trevs sings!!!

  • looks and sounds mint

  • you stole my name with yur number plate!!! : D

  • Yep - called the torque effect - V8 mounted long ways in a 1060kg car. Rev it and the twisting force twists the whole car - fantastic!
