Cortisone and NSAIDs only get rid of your pain (and temporarily at that). they dont address the actual problem of the cartilage damage and often ligament/tendon damage that make up your arthritis/joint pain.
Look into prolotherapy. it healed me it can heal you too. its the opposite of a cortisone shot, it contains inflammatories to re-irritate the area and prompt your body's natural injury response system to heal the area, INCLUDING CARTILAGE
Enjoyed the video. I was just dx and tx with a steroidal injection today for Lt 1st CMC OA. The sxs appeared only 9 days ago along w/another flair up of my R thumb DQ tendonitis so I immediately went to my PCP and got a referral to the hand doc for the shots. NSAIDs don't help much and my work gets annoyed when take medical leave. Still I won't consider surgery yet since it only started in Nov 2010. Yikes! I just turned 41.
@lucy25able Talk to your specialist about your concerns. Don't be shy about asking lots of questions and being honest with him or her. You can also have a discussion with your primary care provider about the surgery.
I don't know if this is what I have, but my right hand hurts at the base of my thumb and down into my wrist. I feel it every now and then when it seems to flare up. The problem is, I'm in my twenties. Isn't that a little young for a problem like this?
@Jennafu832 There's really no way to diagnose the source of your pain without examining your hand in person. Have your doctor check it out; he or she may discover the cause, or recommend a specialist. Good luck!
