  • Wow akai are really shit now.. who the fuck would make beats on an iPad??? It's not even made for it...

  • @KaersonTV There are some good apps for making beats on the iPad. And the iPad is made to do everything a computer does, just in a different way. But yeah, Akai's product line is definitely going downhill.

  • @FRB1420 Just my bad Karma sometimes, you know :)

  • I think the good lord could come to earth and make a pro device out of solid gold and people on the internet could still find something wrong with it. Akai, I think this device is pretty darn cool and I've been waiting to purchase one for my studio and for home and would gladly pay much more than your current price. I am an Emmy winning (and working) music and film producer and I find myself integrating music I create on the iPad into my production workflow. When will it finally be released?

  • @fixxman1000 Glad your pumped! Also, congrats on your achievements. As of now we do not have an exact date but you are welcome to join us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates on releases.

  • wtf why an ipad dock,

its like them ipod docks in dj mixers god dammed im getting sick of it takes the whole pro look away

  • @10Cicegim All these companies need to stop playing games making all this iphone/ipad garbage just so they can reach the masses. Akai needs to get back into the hardware they used to make aimed towards REAL music people. You know like the stuff they used to make before the MPC5000

  • That'll be awesome Tempo Rubato's NLog Pro app, but Akai's SynthStation app is absolutely terrible.

  • The iPad 3 will be available before this comes out, hope it fits

  • @c2mojo No, this thing is already out, and the iPad 3 isn't.

  • @BSODslayer

    Thanks for your reply,

My bad for not reading the descrption :/

Can I ask you if you've heard of any kind of compatibility with the MPC iOS app?

Thanks in advance for your time.

  • Though I would still like to have one of these, this has got to be the most irritating release of a product I've ever seen. First they announce it at NAMM 2011 to big ass fanfare and sneak peak teaser videos with the original price stated as $199 street. Most stores had it and have had it as pre-order coming soon option. Supposed to ship early Feb then late Spring No word from Akai. Unanswered E-mails nothing. During which time the price blew up to almost $300?. The app works well with i/o Dock.

  • @jonnyj46 Yeah, I've seen several videos where they mentioned the $199 price tag but all the online shops have it for pre-order @ $269. I'm interested in this, but not at $269

  • Pads on the left side? Not very good ergonomically... put some knobs on it and I'll get it.

  • really akai 9 pads.... fuckin 9 and they are not even full size

  • finally jeez! what happened to the MIDI???

  • This is how the Mpc Fly is going to be like.

  • So, did the synthstation software improve since I sold my iPad or is it still the same BS.

Also, why dont you implement MIDI support for any other iPad music app like the Alesis I/O does?

Get your product a little more mature and I'll buy it.

  • @AndroidLife 1: All previews and screenshots have shown the new version of the software, it will without a doubt be released simultaneously with the 49.

2: If you read the description, you'll se that the 49 is completely CoreMIDI compatible, all apps based on CoreMIDI will be usable with it.

  • @AndroidLife I would forget about the SynthStation appand look at the other apps it's compatible with. More and more great apps work with it, so you're not restricted to Akai's terrible app.

  • @FRB1420 Then I would really rather go for an Alesis IO dock. Just waiting for the product to improve on some points - next release maybe.

My critic about this new range of Akai products is that they kill the "nomad" characteristic of the iPad. It's just awesome to be in train and start a Sampletank or an iElectribe app with your headphones on.

  • @AndroidLife The Alesis IO Dock is an awesome product, don't get me wrong, but it's a completely different product than the SynthStation. It's simply a dock full of audio ins and outs while the SynthStation 49 is an iPad-optimized MIDI controller complete with keys, pads, and controls. It really depends on what your needs are. As for waiting for the product to improve, I'm not sure exactly what you're waiting for there. It has pads, keys, and transport controls - I'm not sure what else you want.

  • @AndroidLife Akai didn't kill the "nomad" aspect, they just created a device for people who want to take iPad music creation to the next level. Some of the iPad music apps are really fantastic, and it seems like a waste to just play them with a non velocity sensitive touch screen keyboard. They're not stopping you from producing on a train.

  • @FRB1420 Some really good points you have there. I see that we share and I've been very glad to hear what you had to say.

My frustration must have come in great part from my lack of creativity these last months.

"Be lazy and blame the whole world for not doing anything of your life". - Ya know :)

Thank you for all your time...

I will keep the "Next level" thing as a guideline to think of the developping iPad ecosystem.

Better lookat it from the bright side, you're right.

  • @FRB1420 However, as part of a Home Studio, the Akai iPad product range is kind of shitty: an piece of hardware for the MPC app, a piece of hardware for the Synthstation, one for iPhone, one for iPad.

And their apps are full of flaws for obvious reasons: you have to buy the hardware that goes with in order to use it correctly. Same goes for Korg and the iKontrol thing for the Monotribe.

I think it's lame of them to think that they can milk customers from the beginning to the end

  • @AndroidLife The Korg iKontrol is not an audio production app, it's a controller for the Monotribe. Korg openly states that if you read the description. That's like saying Apple is "milking customers" because you have to have an iPad to make use of an iPad Smart Cover.

  • @AndroidLife And one more thing - the Akai SynthStation app is still a terrible app, even with the hardware. The interface is terrible, it's extremely badly organized and unintuitive, and the synths are drums just don't sound that good. Akai is a company famous for hardware, not software.

  • so is this ever coming out??

    arg

  • Id rather keep my Mpk 49, it has more drum pads :P
