Seen three reviews on this bag so far, but the way you equipped it is exactly how I intend to use it. Great review, now I am going for a monsoon in foliage.
is it me or does maxpeditions od green seem like a different green. I seems like its lighter then od green. I have this pack and it doesn't blend in with my other od gear
The water bottle sleeve holds the Maxpedition janus pocket extension as though it were made for it. I thought you might like to give it a try and assess it. Thanks (nice idea about the dry goods in the water bottle). Bradah, are you from Hawaii . . I'm thinking so . . let me know . . Mahallo!
@chommper93 ...well in general you wouldn't want to be disporportionate...like for a 5', 105 ib. chick it might be to big. For the average guy it shouldn't be a problem.
@ajmeowmeow ...Yes it might be way too big. Even for me it's a little impsosing but, holds a lot. A smaller Maxpedition versipak like a "Fatboy" or "Remora" might be a better choice. They also have smaller backpacks...check-out the Maxpedition website.
Nice review, I like the emphasis on urban essentials: 3 guns, cashews, and an mp3 player! Jk, I'm sure you just threw a few things in there for demonstration purposes.
Great review. Just ordered one from Jasper Mountain Outfitters for $89.44 including shipping, seemed to be a great deal. Paid with paypal just too make sure.
Out of curiosity, how did that "1600 cubic inches" turn out? I ask because I know, with Camelbak, the cubic sizing doesn't include how much space your bladder takes up when it's full. I'm looking into some Maxpedition packs but I don't want a 2800 cubic inch bag to turn into a 2000 cubic inch bag with a full 100oz bladder (past experience)
@blackroses4her ..10-4 you're smart to ask...because yeah the camelbak bladder does take a lot of space I don't know if it's 800 cu in. but, it does take some space.
I find it's a good pack for the city, on a motorbike, or just around town.
If you need a (3) day pack, LRRP pack, field pack...you're going to need something bigger.
I realized how ridiculous that sounded after I posted it, It was actually about 500 cubic and the bladder took up 150-200 of that, I was looking at a 2800 cubic pack and translated the dimensions to that pack.
@ hellzarmy ,Im using a ww2 german pack as my bugout bag. It has room for a ton of stuff ,Im afraid it might be overstuffed. What weight limit do you reccomend for a tac/bugout bag? Im 180 lbs.
A bugout bag shouldn't be 180lbs WOW. Basically, all it should have is perhaps some medical, some food and clothing to last about 3 days for one person. I would recommend you make the rest of your family carry their own gear!
Also, what kind of stuff are you putting in the pack to make it weight almost 200lbs??? Sounds like you're actually preparing to be a refugee...
How are you liking the fit and style of the Monsoon so far? Im thinking of one for the same purpose, think it will blend in alot better that some of there other assault pack looking bags. How does that semi open front pocket work out?
NOT FOR HYDRATION BAGS. The drinking tube does not have its own hole to go out the bag. They designed the drinking tube to rub in between the sharp zipper teeth of the partially unzippered bag, which is the only way to get the tube out. See the picture on the Maxped site showing the drinking tube and you will see what I mean. Otherwise, this is a great bag. And thanks again for your review.
Yep. For long hikes I would use a regular hiking sack anyway. For urban tactical, this bag is fine. One last question, I really like the song you open with here, what is that song?
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the return policy for bag. I see what you mean about reaching backward. Maybe if I work on some shoulder mobilty its a possiblity. I would love to see a video on a quick draw with this method... it seems awkward
I been using the Jumbo Versipack lately but, no it wasn't hard just a matter of reaching back, pulling the zipper down, and reaching in. try one on for size at your local gun shop or sporting goods store.
People who watch my videos learn I don't take request. Interrupts my flow. Already have a list of videos I intend to do. But, I will keep in mind for future reference.
Personally I like the single strap system...you can move the bag from the back to side or to the front.
I carry more than one firearm not just the one in the Maxpedition CCW area. So say I'm using the on on my belt...I holster...pull the bag forward and access my back-up/secondary firearm in the bag.
As far as the biggest and most comfortable...I'm currently using the Jumbo Versipack...it's pretty big and is comfortable. the Fatboy in 38% smaller and just as good.
it would be good if ther's a shop where you can compare the bags and sizes so you can choose which one is right for you...
Man, everything Maxpedition has is killer! I want a Maxpedition tuxedo, a Maxpedition frying pan, and a box of re-usable Maxpedition condoms. Hard use gear right?
hey jt i was looking at this video for a while now and i wanted to know is this bag coferterbal when walking a 6 miles on the streets just on streets. beause i have bags and when i wear them some time's my shoulders start to kill me. so i just wanted to know

i thought you was maori but you stay from hawaii. sounds like you trying hard for not get the pidgen out lol.
i have the bag but what i don't get is that back compartment. if you have anything like gun it's really hard to get out.
thinking about getting Gearslinger. the only thing is it's a left shoulder/right hip sling but that is because if you are right-handed quick and easy access to weapon.
i prefer wearing it as right shoulder/left hip like the Monsoon.
Putting a .45 in a velcro holster in the back compartment is just to have another gun...watch my edc update the one with the bullet-proof vest...I cary (2) glocks when working...OSU!!!(KARATE EXPRESSION)
Nice review J.T. I saw that bag when I picked up my Jumbo VersiPack that Im using as my new EDC bag. Im not totally happy with it so maybe Ill take a good look at this one next time I go to the dealer. Its so hard to hear about all you lucky people that can actually carry a handgun with you everyday. I gotta get out of this State.
yeah some States like Texas it's easier to carry.
But, not the case here in Hawaii...real RESTRICTIVE GUN LAWS here but, I have a "Golden Ticket", "Carte Blanc", "Get Out of Jail Free Card" and have no problem carrying what I do...lol!
That's a nice pack. I've got a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack and one of their fanny packs, and both are super heavy duty. But they aren't big enough. Looks like the Monsoon could fit the bill. If you load it up, is it comfortable? .45, couple of magazines, water and clothes is a decent load out. Let us know how it rides
that does look like a super cool bag, nice for urban tactical cause it is pretty low profile, I mean, people wouldnt look at it and say he has a ton of weapons or whatever, like they would if you where carrying others or camo colored bags and whatnot.

@sylla2 You should consider people like him public servants, some quotes to convey the point: "Only an armed people can be truly free.
Only an unarmed people can ever be enslaved."- Aristotle
"You cannot invade the mainland United States.
There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."- Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Japanese Navy)
And to those bitching about people owning guns:

deserves neither freedom or safety."- Benjamin Franklin

@sylla2 It's called Second Amendment to the United States Constitution:
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed;
It's his right to carry around 2 guns if he wants, and I'm sure he has a license for both of them. I enforce his right to carry them if he wants.

Sorry Man...if you're looking for hard numbers I'm not the guy to ask. I never weighed anything I packed.
i put in what I thought I needed and if it was too heavy i would take out what I thought I could do without.
when it comes to guns, knives, or personal protection I feel everything is a personal choice...whatever works for you.

They say, you should not make the bag / backpack
heavier then about 30% of you're own bodyweight.
Only what I've heard, I cant give you any "hard evidence" on it.
I would guess 30% is an average

it's a great bag but, since I got a Jumbo versipack the monsoon stays in the trunk until needed.
No problems with the front when I was using it. You just neede to secure the snaps and straps.
