Funny as hell but more than just a little bit true. In the first century CE, there was considerable Jewish revolutionary groups that wanted to rise up against the Romans to make them end their occupation of Jerusalem. They might have been more successful had these groups been able to unify (or at least work together on some uprisings). What made Monty Python so great was their familiarity and facility of historical events. It makes for good satire.
I was a member of a politically active group for awhile but left because of the expected reciprocal endorsements (our members will sign your petitions if your members sign ours). I never really appreciated the Life of Brian until then.
Now I understand why it is the movie that is so funny it was banned in Norway.
Monsieur Cleese has clearly in his countenance what folk does call natural authority! This is way he plays in Monty Python all the key authority figures, which do make the life on our cosy little planet free prosperous and save life Adolf Hitler, the Pope, English officers, Reg (leader of the terrorist organisation People’s Front of Judea), Sir Lancelot the Brave, the right hand of Pontius Pilate, managers or police officers. I think the authority folk should take him for their role model!
A great commentary on the flippancy and nit-picking of political groups. It's because of petty squabbles like this that the Spanish Left lost to Franco and Spain had to live under Fascist rule for near 50 years. Internal bickering settles nothing in politics and the Python gang point that out very well.
Listen...if you wanted to join the PFJ... you'd have to really hate the romans! I do! Oh yeah? How much? A lot! (pauses to think then says...) Right you're in! I fuckin' worship at the alter of Monty Python. ALL HAIL MONTY PYTHON!
Had a "diversity at work" day last week.... My pleas for this to be shown went on deaf ears. You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink. Instead a Black/Asian group was introduced to all who wanted to join. Am going to ask the question, can I start a Caucasian/Latino group? Let you know the answer. Splitters!!
The entire skit is about how all the Socialist movements in countries are too busy splitting and bickering then working together. So they blame each other for their own failures because they split off because of ideological beliefs.
okay you have a group of people that have a cause. Although they all may want the same result they want to set about obtaining that result in different ways. the PFJ and theJPF would both be groups trying to end the occupation by the romans.. the JPF through direct action the PFJ through meetings and committees. Each group may consider themselvers a SPLITTER from the main group. Then there are smaller groups like the popular front (which only has one member - Irony) he would be a Splitter.
lol. epic
