  • Everytime I see someone shooting video with a DSLR I just laugh a little on the inside.

  • @GPCharlie Because we can all afford one of these right?

  • Comment removed

  • whats funny is the camera isnt so expensive, the cage and the lens cost 7 times more than what the camera is worth. You can go to almost any electronic store to purchase the canon 5D which is worth $1,300...Not bad and its a great camera

  • @carmineglitch the 5d mark is not 1300.....

  • @eemproductionz I didn't say mark l, neither mark ll, The Canon 5D body, just the camera is 1,300

  • Guys, you don't BUY the camera, you rent it usually, when the hell would you buy something so expensive when you can rent it for only as long as you need?!?! This is some nice stuff, not for backyard movies.

  • @CretaZigman I agree, why buy it when you can rent it, however most store rent time is a day, and sometimes one day is just not enough, of course you can just save up and get the camera without the extra qualities

  • makes you look like a dork.

  • $1,800 plus $700 for the focusing thing-a-ma-jig. Almost $3,000, and you still have to but the camera.

  • This rig would be too heavy to shoot with on your shoulders ^^

  • IT COSTS 4353624574745678538578769867897807809788 DOLLARS

  • @bellapetuttidario93 think they'll take payments?

  • finally the rig is more expensive than the cam

  • It always is.

  • THIS IS A BIG JOKE WASTE PEICE OF SHIT! LMAOOOO.... WTF, SOOOOOOO NOT NECESSARY. THIS IS MORE OF A JOKE AND WORTH MORE AS A JOKE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

  • @brandonlamarmusic lol, u mad bro?, how is that a joke? I belive you just dont have the money ;)

  • @vanhakaveri lmaooo.... i dont have the money? haha! u obviously dont know who i am, u might wanna google me. #CommentFail

  • @brandonlamarmusic 1. we can google everyone's name, 2. its not becoz we can google your nameg it means you have money. #CommentFail

  • @brandonlamarmusic You're not an indie cameraman, you're a rapper. Of course this wouldn't be useful for you - but that's still not a good reason to ridicule something like this.

Overpriced? Suuuure! I give you that! But joke? Nah, man..

  • @thedevo01

I agree. I'm surprised that so many people who clearly know nothing about cameras or video production are commenting on the video.

  • !!!!!!! i want thissss

  • phh, that's nothing, My exakta has far more accesories.

  • how much would it cost for a setup like that?

  • @krelemben without the dslr camera and the monitor, about $1,000

  • I LOVE how kdwantsasnack has DISABLED HIS ACCOUNT< AND RETURNED TO TROLL LAND!!!! Just goes to show you, if you stand up to an internet bully, and provide solid facts, these annoying kids will disappear!! ROCK ON CINEMATOGRAPHERS!!!!!! EXPOSE FAKE WANNABES!!! That is all.

  • And when you have to change the battery, you have to take apart everything.. But yeah, nice rig by the way, it looks very professional

  • @paulcook04........don't waste your time arguing with this jackass. it has become quite apparent to me that this is either some 15 year old kid, who wants into the industry, or a nasty biter professional troll. either way, he is just not worth your time. Good luck dude.

  • Now that you have seen some of my work National level spots, ect, STFU and go bother other people and stop trying to bully children on the internet. • @kdwantsasnack Your comment has been removed? Strange, because it was a valid point & yes I do have a Rode VMP lol. I do shoot dual system, but not Zoom - Edirol R44 w/ Rode NTG-2s. Perfectly good audio equipment. Anyway, it's been said a million times before but it still comes down to different cameras for different uses. I shoot a lot of timelapse & work as a photographer and videographer (at the same time) - so DSLRs are perfect for me. You use what you like, I use what I like.

  • I don't understand why people don't buy a videocam instead of wasting money on this kind of stuff

  • @alsoknownasMaSTeR Because the videocam that is anywhere near as good as this will cost 2-3 times more. Welcome to the professional world.

  • @IgnoredComment I know the pro world and that's the reason because I told you that. A video cam is for record video and 5D is a photo camera that can record, never the same quality and controls. If I worked with video I never would buy a DSLR. Just my opinion

  • movie motion directors in hollywood are using this type of stuff now?

    Very impressive setup.

  • Comment removed

  • accessory sellers make more money than camera sellers. These are hugely overpriced. I went to a camera store in China once, picked up a bunch of stuff like this guy has. $300 dollars for mount rig and LCD screen. In the US it could cost you $2000

  • nice camera u kook

  • If I was going to spend the money on a rig like that I'd be very tempted just to buy a camera which is purpose designed for cinema. DSLR's are good, Theyre all I use but Id rather go for the real thing with the proper funding.

  • @nienaberimages a such camera can cost up to and over 35.000$! :)

  • I think it's not big enough XD

  • Dear santa.....

  • looks heavy =]

  • I have have every Red Rock Micro component, but this makes me laugh because he puts it on the wrong shoulder! it's configured for the right side - looks like he's never used it before! Ha!

  • rich guys >_>

  • red rock stuff are so fucking expensive ...

  • Looks like my grand great-grandfather's wooden camera.

  • You seem clueless to filmmaking lol

  • لاااا لااااا مني مصدق ابدن ><

  • @M1zR2053 Yes! ... i mean no... ... fuck i have no idea what you are saying. Please comment in english, otherwise i kan lika gärna skriva på svenska så fattar ingen vad någon av oss skriver!

  • @fergfergferg123 The rig is for professional productions. The entire season 6 finale of House was short with a Canon 5D Mark II, most likely using something like this as a rig. It has nothing to do with dick sizes, it's to do with quality.

  • @EzeCoyote u eat troll food?

  • @filmmetoo No. I eat trolls.

  • @EzeCoyote

Yes the quality of the 5d is stunning for its size and price, but all that metal around the camera doesn't change the quality.....

whilst they are good quality they are not exactly broadcast are they..... just because one show was filmed on them.

If you worked in "professional" productions you would not be using a 5d trust me, 4k is what people want and need.

google : BBC approved HD cameras they are for professional use.

also you must have a tiny dick....

  • @fergfergferg123 I didn't say the rig changes quality, I said it helps keep the camera stable during shots.

People seem to forget that they used super-lenses for this, not the standard 18-55 one.

And my point is you don't NEED a professional movie-camera to make stunning videos. Just passion and effort. And the right equipment

  • @fergfergferg123 Actually, you are wrong. THe 5D Mark II has been used for shows like House, and was recently used to make Lucasfilm's skywalker ranch and 36 stairs. Saying"just because one show was filmed on them" is just a way to minimize a strong fact that these cameras ARE capable of professional production and being used exactly for that.

  • @kdwantsasnack Oh god, not another "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" argument. Well, what is a photographer with out that iphone, dslr, or point and shoot? Not much of a photographer at all. No reason why technological advancements should make you ill. Devices have limitations, the better the device, the less limitations. Therefore, they are capable of things. No reason to over analyze and attempt to get semantically deep about this.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack The issue people are having is that uninformed/educated folk with no experience think that x camera will give y results, because people aren't being recognized for their "knowledge and talent". It doesn't take years and years to be technically acquainted with a DSLR. Style and artistic approach can take a long time to develop, but it takes maybe 2 weeks to a month of learning to take a technically sound image or video.

  • @kdwantsasnack Being a photographic imaging major, I can tell you first hand that people go from generic crap to visually pleasing imagery in a matter of weeks. It's not hard. The people who have been in the field for years throw such a fit when someone new says "I want this camera because I want to take pro pictures". Instead of getting bent out of shape, recognize that these people are half right. The equipment is half the battle. Knowledge and technique are the other half.

  • @WhiteBeltAcademy So inform these people that there is a learning curve, instead of being a pretentious hipster and getting "ill about the revolution". Photographers and Cinematographers need to face the fact that taking pictures and shooting video are actually easy now and the average joe can make impressive imagery. And instead of being in denial about it, accept it, and show people that talent and creativity still matter.

  • @kdwantsasnack Cool story! 4 years is a couple weeks? Are you a German shepherd? No luck needed to obtain a job... I'm a veteran going to school to obtain a degree to get commissioned. It's fun thinking you know everything right? You've been doing this for 20 years and you talk like a 14 year old on world of warcraft. I'd love to see you do both still and video production with out a camera since gadgetry means nothing.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack No... it isn't irrelevant. You made the "Good luck getting a job" crack and I explained why I don't need luck that I already have a job lined up. You just seem to lack the intellectual capacity to understand how it applies, and also a hypocrite talking about relevance. Yes, I did say that, and you took it out of context for the sake of arguing your point. A technically sound image is not difficult to achieve at all. You disagree with this?

  • @kdwantsasnack 20 year professional imagery veteran... yet no videos... and all of your comments are negativity towards DSLR video makers on videos about DSLR video making. You sound like you have a lot of time on your hands. I will definitely be sure to take your comments seriously from here on out ;)

  • @kdwantsasnack I don't love nor worship the camera, you are a typical instigator with your blanket statements and immature absolutes. "I would NEVER use a phrase"... OMG! Is it poisonous? You can't talk about actual points... just personal attacks... because you contradict everything that comes out of your mouth. The equipment doesn't matter, yet DSLR's are for no$ dreamers and kids. Makes sense.

  • @kdwantsasnack After seeing all of your comments on this thread and in your comment history, I can see you are just a know-it-all troll who brings nothing to the table. You are a pro/vet who knows everything about everything and everyone else is wrong and *insert adolescent insult here*. Typical teenage bullshit. We aren't going to get anywhere debating so I officially digress. Good luck trying to turn the world against DSLRs.

  • @WhiteBeltAcademy I saw 30 seconds of footage from a gopro2 on a 60-foot screen this weekend and it looked awesome. WGAF

  • @fergfergferg123 What rig do you use?

  • @fergfergferg123 That's not true either. I shoot XDCAM, which is a darling for stock and production work for Disc. Network. 4k is the future (like 8-12 yrs down the pike) for MAINSTREAM THEATRICAL FEATURES. It's a big niche, but still just a niche. Otherwise, HD (even the 720 variety) will be good to go for quite some time. As you may have implied, the BBC will not accept raw footage from the current crop of DSLRs.

  • @fergfergferg123 4K isn't useful for broadcast. Folks who don't really know any better are being led to believe they need 4K.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack What would you rather over a DSLR? A mirrorless?

    Don't make me laugh.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack I'm not reading it because it's complete bullshit.

You're saying DSLRs are cheap and for kids, when in reality they're the giant on theTL market. Or maybe you'd rather got for a TLR instead? And in terms of recording a DSLR does just as fine as any other camera (providing the price range).

  • Comment removed

  • @EzeCoyote Sorry, I got to apologize. I didn't realize you were just a kid. Kind of makes sense now that I look back at your comments. I'm sure you'll figure it all out as you mature in life and as a visual-arts professional. Just be mindful that there are a lot of us in the field who what have been doing this a long time, and we know what works. Many of us DO use DSLR's, but we understand how limited they are beyond the shallow DOF feature. That's it. Sorry I was so condescending.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack dick. dick move dude.

  • @kdwantsasnack AND ANOTHER THING. As a working cinematographer, here in N.C. if I ever witnessed that behavior from one of my camera operators or assistants, I would pretty much try to never work with them again. Probably the reason why you have so much time to cruise you tube and insult children. And by the way I am still not convinced that you are not some snot nosed little child yourself. Credits, IMDB page?? Agency name?

  • @gfoster31 I love you.

  • Where's the camera?

  • @jakethesnakefilms CAMARA IS OF PHOTOGRAFY MARK (SMALL)

  • @exitoyfama Jeez, its a joke.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting Google Vincent Laforet - watch his work, then STFU, and go back to the airport and film planes landing.

  • @cutlassfilm +10! Vincent Laforet is a hero!

And while you're at it, try googling Phillip Bloom as well.

  • @LittleBigToaster So, DSLR Fanboy, you like the taste of that koolaid? Laforet is no hero. He's a self-promoting gadget freak. Nice guy, though.

  • @kdwantsasnack You have no idea!

Well, if he's a nice guy, stop wining then.

  • @fergfergferg123 hahahahaha damn that made my night. I have a redrock cinema bundle and it literally just sits in my pelican I hardly use it and when I do it just slows me down monopod ftw.

  • or you could just buy an actual video camera that already has the handle on top, and just get the handheld rig instead of that monstrosity.

  • Love how no-one on YouTube knows this is Vincent Laforet (Vimeo know who I mean) - an incredible cinematographer and one of the guys who has pushed for DSLR movie-making since the 5D mark II was released. @CAPlaneSpotting - let us know when you've made anything that doesn't look like home video on your EX1... ;)

  • @Paulcook04

    Oh shut the hell up.

In August of 2008, Laforet, a renowned still photographer, had practically NO EXPERIENCE in video. It's right there archived on his blog. Call him a gifted visual artist, but "an incredible cinematographer"? Come on. He's made an impressive and well publicized transition, but he's no Martin Scorsese.

  • @kdwantsasnack since when was Martin Scorsese a cinematographer?! Hahaha, you moron. Most of the great cinematographers started with photography anyway. It's a matter of opinion whether you think Laforet is talented or not, I think he is.

  • @Paulcook04 Yeah but you didn't say that. You said he was "an incredible cinematographer." That was a dumbass thing to say. Hell, he'd probably agree with me.

  • @Paulcook04 Interesting. I see you've sprinkled your love VL among multiple posts. I also see you have the impression that an EX1 (silver status for Discovery Network and fully accepted by BBC) is a home-video piece of shit compared a super-aliasing 21MP still camera. You a silly child. At least the 5D has that 3.5mm jack for groovy audio. (Oh wait, you're probably a "filmmaker" so you shoot dual system, right? Let me guess: a zoomh4n. wow it's like I'm psychic.) Go suck on your Rode VideoMic.

  • ...sorry, that was presumptuous. Please, tell me about your audio setup and techniques, Paul. I know that production sound is super important to the dslr revolution.

  • filming with DSLR is good because is so small and portable.. you just fucking destroyed that

  • Vincent Laforet is a master!

  • Canon is like "Fuck this shit. Take me outta here"

  • All this crap and money spent, when you could of just bought a sony ex1r. People that use DSLR's are just retarded.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting I guess that people who buy dslrs and use their video came into visual arts liking photography and then bought a camera that could take video too, just as an add on, and ended liking it too. No?

  • @omgtkseth Not really, allot of people now a days are switching to DSLR's without any prior ownership of an SLR camera. They see the example videos on YouTube and the quality seems amazing to them because they know nothing about proper white balance or how color accuracy is highly important. So they buy the 5D, but if you look at every compassion between the 5D and a REAL camcorder, you will see that the camcorder is way more color accurate and always in focus.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting Well, I was saying because that is what happened to me. I had friends that had DSLRs, (no video), and thats what got me into photography, then I played with a cheap DSLR (no video) and I decided to buy my own. When I bought mine I ended taking more videos than photos, but not do serious videography, but to send family videos to my sister in spain...

  • @omgtkseth Well that I can understand, but people like this guy that spend thousands of dollars to create a stupid rig like this are insane. All that money wasted because no matter what you do, the 5D will never have the same clarity or color accuracy as the ex1r or xf300. Allot of people also build these things just to get attention and make their piece of crap camera look like an expensive camcorder. Its just so pointless.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting I disagree, I shoot DSLR video and I bought into it after using the A1U and FX1 Sony line. DSLRs are for a more artistic point of view in your work. with Depth of Field and the fact we can shoot video thru all the exisiting photo lenses. The best quality / time lapse / the most beautiful videos ive seen are all shot on DSLRs. I've looked into your ex1r... 7k for the same thing that looks so ordinary and boring.. its all opinion... but dont call people retarded for there choice.

  • @dub3ra I will call DSLR video makers retards because they are including you. Your view point of the DSLR video being "Beautiful" and "Artistic" doesn't mean that its true. It just shows how much you know about videography. The ex1r has three image senors, its color accuracy is 100% compared to the 5D. When you match up video shot from the ex1r and the 5D, (side by side) you'll notice that yellows are yellows on the ex1r and yellows appear white on the 5D. The ex1r is the best camcorder. 5D suks

  • @CAPlaneSpotting "Better" is not the right way to look at it. Is a hammer better than a screwdriver. They're different tools. It always is going to come down to what type of shooting style you have. For me and many other 100% color accuracy doesn't matter. Your knowledge on this subject has no value. you own Neither type of camera, and your opinion is worthless. The side by side video of the 5D mark ii vs ex1r was just another video you trolled. you my friend are the retard.

  • @dub3ra Yeah sure, ugh huh. You go ahead and keep filming like a douche bag with your 5D and I'll keep filming with my ex1r which I own btw. And to let you know I've used more professional camcorders then you ever will. I could care less, at least I'm doing things the right way so my viewers have a clean in focus video to watch. What are people going to see when they watch yours? Out of focus video, rolling shutter, crappy audio, OH BUT at least you have depth of field HAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting I love you man I'm glad we had this chit chat :)

  • @CAPlaneSpotting Um.... OK??? Crappy audio? Ever heard of external audio recorders (which have to be used even with RED and 35mm cameras)? Rolling shutter? Perhaps you didn't know there are plugins to fix that in post. Out of focus video????? That would be the fault of the focus puller, not the camera.

"I've used more professional camcorders than you ever will." Hmm. Real professional there.

    My 2 cents ;)

  • @enjarcher External Audio recorders, Plugins for rolling shutter, out of focus is the operators fault? WOW. By the time that's all said and done, you might as well of bought a camcorder LOL. You people that use DSLR's for video are complete morons, you fall for the great quality and then you suffer from all the draw backs. While people like me with real camcorders are leaving you guys in the dust. I could care less, at least my video quality will always sound and look better! Have a nice day!

  • @CAPlaneSpotting Have fun exchanging the lens on your ex1r. Which i can safely assume is a pretty slow lens (high aperture value) that is purpose designed for broadcast and documentation. Plus, your missing the point, it all comes down to the operator (skill wise too) and the vision of what they want, if that doesn't exist, then whats the point of filming in the first place? As long as the final product satisfies the user, "its all good".

  • @nitrou

"As long as the final product satisfies the user, "its all good".

Uh, nope. Not in the professional world. Sorry. It needs to satisfy the CLIENT. Most importantly, it has to SOUND PERFECT. A finished job shot on an XL1 with perfect audio will trump a job shot on an Alexa with poorly captured audio. I know this (painfully) from first hand experience. You DSLR guys don't seem to grasp this. You also don't seem to understand how easy and cheap it is for us pro's to pic up a dslr, too.

  • @kdwantsasnack I happen to be a working professional in the audio field, be it live sound or recordings, so i can assure you the concept of sound quality isn't lacking. Most small crew films have people doubling up on jobs, perhaps even producing the video for themselves, i was implying the client is also the user. I understand that your opinion has been adamant considering your production field, but this is suited away from big budget or broadcast productions.

  • Comment removed

  • @kdwantsasnack Plus, then there is the concept of external recording. I was also considering the opinion of the actual camera operator, since they're human too.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting Link me to a popular music video in the last 2 years that was shot on a ex1.. I've owned the pmw ex1 when they first dropped then sold it when I saw what people were doing with 5ds. The 5d changed the game more than any camera out on the market. Since when do cinematographers use onboard mics?

  • Comment removed

  • @CAPlaneSpotting

Also you fail to realise that its the DSLR look that our clients are going for now. I do event videos and have had clients tell me they didn't like the look of my camcorder and when asked showed me a wedding reel clearly recorded with a dslr. its just looks much more organic and filmic than a camcorder. Hell, the BBC has actually approved DSLRs for full HD acquisition, something the EX1 actually isn't.

  • @flightsimrocks You kinda responded a little late, I have since realized how great DSLR's are. I purchased the t3i.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting

lol congrats. T3i's a great cam.

I want a DSLR too... but currently I'm stuck with my 1/3'' video cam. haha

  • These poor DSLR fanboys. What they don't want to face is the fact that established professionals are more likely to have both big-chip and small-chip systems, and exploit them for their relative strengths. Conversely, the DSLtards have their one-trick pony. Depth of field. Wow. Shallow. Look. Neat. Shallow. Coooooooool. I'd love to see these guys on a tight commercial location shoot.

  • @CAPlaneSpotting "always in focus" - meaning everything is in focus, whether you want it to be or not. Any serious videographer or filmmaker will tell you it's the lens that's important. The one on your EX1 wouldn't even come close to a Canon L lens. Why do you think Letus have become a multi-million dollar company - because people wanted the bitrate of a Sony camcorder like the EX1 with the quality optics of Nikon and Canon lenses.

  • nice rig , is that a chrosziel rig ? the 5d mark 2 is quite good, just dont pan rapidly, its still only a photo camera ... great results when not toom uch movement but not the best - but for the small amount of money its really nice ...

  • i just bulit the same thing with pvc pipe, for $13

  • @tomtom0088912010 Could you post a vid?

  • I wish I can afford this..

  • @brandonlamarmusic - the dude in this video is Vincent Laforet - google him. He's made some of the most outstanding videos in the world with the 5D..

  • once you drop that. everything is broken

  • why do you need to to be so big :P

  • how much cost the mark II?

  • Is that lens a 24-70 f/2.8L ??

  • wow

  • He should have said at the ending

    "Only 10.000$...

    Peace out motherfuckers"

  • HOT HOT HOT! camera gear
