  • Letter is very good!

  • This song was composed by a very wonderful "song stylist' in his own right, Phillip Mitchell. Should you ever have a chance to see him perform...don't miss it.

  • I can listen to this song over and over again. It has a special meaning to me because of a childhood relationship that was resurrected in my adult life. The landscape has changed for both of us, but some things in life remain the same, irrespective of the passage of time and the amount of baggage that we accumulate along the way. I love it!!!

  • I love this song soooooooooooooo much.

The lyrics are so true to how some relationships break and there was so much love they never realized so reconnect but in some cases perhaps, all they do become are friends with no benefits.

Did nor realize this group was African American till today.

Great artists are either dying off,do not perform anymore as a group or are too old to make great records---so sad.

  • this songs was playing in mcdonalds.... as i ponder whats to come in my life Gods will be don in Jesus name

  • What an incredible tune!

  • It is quite difficult starting all over again and just being friends, and never becoming lovers again. If the intimacy was great before, it would be a challange to settle for mere friendship the second time around. If the love is real and pure, one or both parties would be seeking a level of closeness which would invariably call for sex.

  • totally love this song. high 5 to whomever posted!

  • Great Song..

  • Yes thank you. Fabulous.

  • Great song!

  • 2 ppl dint get a chance to start over rofl, tnks again shockg

  • This is when soul was soul!

  • starting all over again is rough! but with love and UNDERSTANDING, we can do it, if not lovers, then friends....

  • BABY BABY.... MEN LISTEN TO THIS PAY ATTENTION !

  • @yourdickis2limp no they are first cousins. Tim is my dad!!!!!!!!!!!!! stupid

  • @chevylife88 Why do people have to coment on things they know nothing about. They just make up stuff for attention. Music like this made the 60s and 70s special for me.It did,nt matter if it was black or white. It was just good music. I miss those days.

  • @dan11856 thank you!!!finally somebody realizes that

  • @yourdickis2limp y do u make a dumn ass comment like that to this fantastic soul touching song! u limp dick fuckhead

  • I love this song.this is when men treated woman with respect.nowadays everything has changed

  • Lip synching is too funny

  • Man, those collars....

  • back then i couldn't wait to grow my moustache and side burns, lol

  • This is just a stone classic. I bought the 45 the week it came out, and I remember hearing it on WCFL when it premiered and saying "damn I gotta have this" I was 16 years old. Simply put, this one of the best records of the 70's. Though it came out on Stax (Memphis) "Starting" was cut in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Mel and Tim, had a pop hit previous with "Backfield In Motion" in '69. Then they punched dj's in the gut with this amazing song from writer Philip Mitchell. It was a 180, for sure.

  • Back in the day when everything was everything, I love it, Mel and Tim!!!!!!

  • im 14 and this song is way older than me but i love old songs like this its better than seeing half naked women shake certin psarts of themselves in the camara

  • @heather355454 you sound like a very smart and intelligent young person. I have a 14 year old who thinks just like you. I guess some of these musicians thinks that's the only way to sell their music is to be half naked. God Bless you.

  • like a hot knife through butter

  • Mel and Tim will heal a broken home or Get them Papers signed...trust.

  • Dedicated to sister Zakiyya.

  • when this came out I was 17 and had been stab, lose my eye. This song inspire me to go!

  • Stax records right on jack.I heard this song walking down the street in london

and was like " Whoa" everybody inside

singing along in unision. Then it hit me

damn soul music is the only music that

    travels the globe in popularity.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Everybody looks so happy! Nowadays all the music does is inspire people to kill one another.

  • @myboylollipop09 You don't listen to much modern music if that's what you think about it. There's a lot of feel-good music.

  • @Pamathey perhaps but it is not played much and it doesn't sell like the music laced with sex and violence. Its a sorry world we live in now.

  • @myboylollipop09 What the fuck kind of music are you listening to??????!!!

  • jul03ray17 --- no one care about each any more all they think about is killing each other espcially the young BLACK MEN.these songs were t he best back in the days.

  • Yes.... Thank you to the person who found this and for posting such a wonderfully classic love song. So sad the day the music died, wasn't it? 70's had some really classic songs, And Motown had it going on.

  • Why do we no longer hear songs like these? Man... This is when music was MUSIC. I miss Soul Train & American Bandstand. Those were the days!!

Thank you for posting this wonderful tune that allowed me to stroll down memory lane one more time. Thank you! :=)))

  • Hey they performed the long version! You don't hear that version too often...

  • A lost love is a very sad thing. On the rare occation that you can reconnect and find the love that you missed, IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING...... you know who you are.

  • JGK

I know you know that we both know how much you love me and how much I love you.

We started as friends, became lovers, followed long seperate roads, which, thanks to you, led us back together so we could start all over again.

We both know now that we can make it.

    I love you forever.

    CVDA

  • CVDA,

Yes, you know that I know we both know how much in love we are. We can make it - and we will. Nothing will ever again separate us. I love you to the moon and back...and then some.
