Oxford University Has Published A Book "THE MAKERS OF THE UNIVERSE", In Which They Have Enlisted 100 People Who Gave Remarkable Contribution To The World Over The Period Of 10,000 Years, Which Is Admired By The Entire UNIVERSE. In this List 1st Name Is "LORD GAUTAM BUDDHA" & 4th Is "Dr. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR" For Their Principle Of Equanimity Which Is The Universal Solution For todays Burning World....
Yeah they are definitely not a full time band - although they did a reunion concert sometime last year. They do have a CD released though. If you know anyone in Colombo you could probably gain access to it :-) they are one of the most authentic bands i hav ever heard. It is truly their own style :-)
I don't think this is Lord Buddhha's statue. The position (aasan) he is sitting is called "karyotsarga" in which Jain Tirthankars used to sit. This a staue of a jain tirthankar
If you ever came to Sri Lanka, you would have never commented such. There are several common postures of Lord Buddha, can be seen all over the island as carvings, paintings and statues. This particular statue is in the ancient city Polonnaruwa, and the place is call Gal-Vihara (stone temple), where several stone statues can be found in different postures.
There is some resemblance to Indian art, since the original Buddhist culture (including art) came from India in Ven. Mahinda's arrival in Sri Lanka some 2500 years ago. However, the art (and culture) was localized over time and there are many differences to Indian stuff if we see it today.
What you have seen here is just the tip of the iceberg, and you should visit Sri Lanka to be amazed with the 2500 year old culture, including well preserved art in many forms.
Balu, you might be right as The Buddha learnt from the jains as he learnt from the Hindus, remember during buddhas young life as siddarth he experienced many ways of life to find nirvana ( or the trut)... so his position may be a jain pose...... i think ! But this is a statue pose of the Lord Buddha, the one and only.
It would be nice if you had the text in the video. But I give you 4 starts for the buddhistic wisdom.
But I think we all have preconceptions about the things we do not know. The best thing is to recognise wat is thrue and wat is not.
I don't think it is possible to fight it, yet recognise the source of your belief. Especialy if that belief may be dangerous to others (discrimination).

You're right. Go to 'Error in Buddhism' and see how they twisted the truth about Buddhism. True liars! They lie all the way in the 7 series!
