How can they see out with that roll cage going across the windshield like that? That sort of thing would distract, and annoy the hell out of me if I was driving it. If there is one thing I don't like about the Bathurst cars is that diagonal bar across the windshield.

This lap will get beaten like every fastest lap ever set in the past, difference is, Murphy broke 2:07 when noone had even come close to doing it, thats why its the lap of the gods. Its like Usain Bolt getting into the 9.6s, thats what people remember, even though he went into the 9.5s later.

I compared this lap with Winterbottom's 2010 qualifying lap (for which he got pole position). Winterbottom was faster through the faster flowing corners like Reid park, turn 2, Mcphillamy park and the second to last corner. Whereas Lowndes was faster in the slower corners like the cutting, esses, dipper, murrays and also the chase.

One way to do it,is have four separate records: Practice, Qualifying,Shootout, and Race. If it goes like so, then here the record holders:

Practice: Lowndes 2:06.801(2010)

Qualifying: Skaife 2:06.97 (2006)

Shootout: Murphy 2:06.859 (2003)

Race: Skaife 2:09 (2005)

Regardless, a fast lap is a fast lap. Though I wish that the next record-breaking lap is done during the Shootout.

@AllenJanmee Sorry mate, I feel I should correct you on the current race lap record. Skaife set the official race lap record in 2005 as you say, but then in 2007 Jamie Whincup broke that record during the race by setting the current race lap record of 2:08.4651 as apposed to Skaifes 2m08.6515s in 2005.

It should be pointed out that, as much as the V8Supercar lot go on about it, this lap was not a lap record (and neither was Murphy's)

FIA regulations, and therefore CAMS regulations, state that lap records can only be set during the race proper

@HyperCam3Vids - So? V8Supercars can say what they like really, doesn't make it so. CAMS are the FIA-endorsed administrators of motorsport in this country, and CAMS rules blatently state that lap records cannot be set in anything other than race conditions.

Doesn't take anything away from the lap, but rules are rules, and mis-truths should not be spread around, nor encouraged.

Just because V8Supercars says so, does not make it official. V8Supercars just runs one category of Australian motorsport, it is CAMS that enforces the rules and regulations, and one of those is that lap records can only be set in races.

I'm not sure why you are getting so worked up, and seem to support the spreading of mistruths, over a blatant and obvious rule that has been around in Australian motorsport for decades.
