I was fortunate enough to have a very fast one which I built in 1984 .Very similar spec. good for 0-60 in around 7 seconds as long as you had at least one passenger (too light otherwise). With each mod. fuel consumption improved from 26 impmpg at 1275cc to 37 impmpg at 1400cc/130bhp=7500rpm. it was very fast!speed in gears 45,85,125,top 140 plus. how comes they did not come from the factory like that!
@trimleyman the speeds in the gears your sayng im hoping are in kph otherwise your telling porkies ;) and they dident come from the factory with that sort of bore because it weakins the block....

Suffolk County Constabulary clocked me at 85mph in second exiting a round-about on the A12 south of Ipswich in '''86 at 11.30pm. did not book me because I had not been drinking and they did not want to do the paperwork. Nice guys.And no it took me a lot of hours work to get it up to that performance and some money. Holbay Racing bored and skimmed the block and head.Parts were from Mini Spares. At 3500rpm in top it rolled 70mph.not factory stock.

Id say and AP racing clutch sith a singlw gray diapram is what you should be looking for division44, Id saw that assuming its pre verto? (longer clutch arm?

mine was a 1293 cooper s lump stage 2 head kc530 cam light n balanced crank and fly wheel twin cam chain flat top metro pistons locked 1000 diff short swan neck dcoe webber carb branch manifold imported exhaust oil cooler. It was actually 53mph in first gear, minis have a longer ratio first due to only having 4 hears, my brother did this video when we had the old dodgey speedo, topping out at 8k rph were just over 50, sorry never got round to changing the text in the video!
Well it does obviously require alot more attention on a moreregular basis, I dont do large mileage in it anyway.. with anout 22miles to the gallon LOL... and doesnt suit daily driving with SC/CR gears, but it is great laugh to drive. Cost of the engine & gearbox/diff GBP9,000 and it goes on from there....
nice tidy motor!! in 1989 i had a 1971 clubman wiv a high spec Cooper S 1340 lump and that used to be mega quick!! it was so fast i didnt see the two coppers who heard me coming towards em and were stood in the road trying to flag me down!!! big fine & points but great fun!!!

I'm building up a '77 Clubman and would be tempted to do the same as yourself except I dont have enough money yet. With time and a bit of patience I'll have it though. Did you do all the work yourself ?
The spec list is amazing, ISKY cam followers and Jack Knight gearbox they're worth their weight in gold! Rimflow valves on a Longman head!!!! getting wood just thinking about it, I'll just have to make do with my 1330 when i get it running.

1.3 Cooper with a carb will do it in 13.1 secs, I believe the SPI version will do it in 11.5secs

I am a fan of minis, but mine doesn't compare to that, tis only a 998.
How reliable is it because that is a lot of power for an A-series, and how much did it cost to build?
