  • Halsey acted foolishly and was more interested in "running up a score" on carriers already bereft of their air wing.

    He was a glory hog that almost cost the lives of 1000s of ground troops and dozens of ships because he was pre-occupied with his legacy than the lives of the men on the beach and the smaller ships that had to stand against them

  • @sol3a1 Good for him that the Japanese were pretty confused. But even if they could have annihilated the invasion fleet it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the war. Perhaps it would delayed the Japanese surrender but that's just aguess.

    Halsey also hesitated to move the fleet away from a typhoon in Decemeber 44 which resulted in 800 dead sailors and several damaged ships.
