I know what you mean tho - H&H's music def draws on folk music. but it has a much more self-conscious approach. they use a down-home style to express/advance progressive ideas. the people i know who like them are Ann Arbor hipsters. check out their website and you'll see what i mean. having this song as your anthem makes you more hip than you may realize ;)
