there's something about this music that makes the Borg seem so much more otherworldly and frightening than the watered down baddies they became later. And Ron Jones rules.

Definitely and I know a lot of critics have said the same thing. It was either TV Guide or another magazine that rated this episode as the best in the series, and also one of the best "TV moments" of all time.
@jpfeiffer001 That's not far and you know it. Compared to the TNG movies (except, to a lesser extent, First Contact), this is Citizen Kane and they are Micheal Bay and Uwe Boll collaborating.
@jpfeiffer001 I've read that Ron Jones composed every episode (before being fired, of course) as if it were its own movie, with different themes depending.
The great Ron Jones was fired by producer Rick Berman for writing great scores like this. Shame on Berman - that disregard for style is what caused the slow death of ST. I hope and pray Paramount hires Jones to score a Trek movie one day.
there is a user named SFDEBRIS on youtube that expresses this exact same sentiment, he reviews episodes of trek once a week. i'd suggest you watch his review of the neutral zone and Q who
yeah, the opinionated guides are awesome, I hope bethesday gets ron jones for their next trek movie, maybe have it like a combination of Fallout 3, Starfleet Academy and bridge commander (especially if it features some of the abilities the mods gave both games) set during the Dominion War.
now THAT would be something, Ron Jones score during Dominion War scenes.
sorry I was half asleep when I wrote that, just came back to listen to this track again and I noticed how horrible the spelling and grammar errors are.

I agree, the score is one of the most stand-out elements of an already stand-out piece of work-- the chilling 5-tone refrain at the start, replayed throughout here and of course, when they first engage the Borg, is goosebump-inducing. Portentous, almost as though they were facing a supernatural enemy. Outstanding score.
I love this soundtrack, it sends a chill down my spine....then back up it again!

Ah, Ron Jones... The first composer ever to be fired for being too good.

Is it possible for you to do more of these? (Star trek ones in general)

The first five seconds actually sounds like something from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

The music in the first half of TNG's run was so awesome. Even the crappy episodes in the first season had great scores.
And then they fired Ron Jones and neutered Chattaway and McCarthy. Brilliant plan "Mr. Executive Producer"

@Aquien1 But yet, I can still hear the dialogue, in my head anyway.

Is it bad that without even watching the video, I can, with a fair degree of accuracy, say the lines for the actors?

Ron Jones's score were always awesome in those epic arc storylines for the Next Gen ...it's a shame he was fired at some point.

I agree.
But I'm glad that Interplay got Ron Jones to make some tracks for the games Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Star Trek: Starfleet Command.

In my opinion it easily supercedes both Star Trek Generations and Inscurretion if you're looking for a nice Star Trek "movie" with the TNG crew.
