How do you get those metroid things not to hurt you while you are trying to do the stuff?

I just hit them with axes a lot and tried to keep away from them. I didn't come up with any proper strategies for it.

Do axes actually hurt the mini things, or do they just freeze them? I'm kind of having a hard time balancing between hitting the minis and destroying sludge.

I think they just freeze them, but I'm not certain - it's over 2 years since I've played the game. As for the sludge, just spamming axes all the time should get rid of most of it and if you somehow get stuck, just throw a few spears to free yourself.

Yeah, you're right. I'd been playing the game for so long that I couldn't stand to hear the BGM any more (which is why I was listening to the music that you can hear in the video), and I couldn't bear the thought of recording another take so I just kept this one becuase like you said, he was (just) dead by that point.
