  • I was waiting for "The Clash" reference during this video. You sir, are made of win.

  • 'Kind of like 1970s South America'... *wince*. Being of South American origin, I have no qualms admitting that I know its history better than Pakistan's. Please don't tell me the US is also involved with supporting this puppet dictatorship? It gets me all conflicted and confused inside, as a US and South American.

  • I would imagine it is difficult to eat butter.

  • or, if you were watching closed captioning, "i never thought i'd say this, but goal ears." wow

  • A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.

  • who else was counting the peeps and then said to themselves: "i should really be paying attention..."

  • Anyone else notice the first note of the opening song is cut off so that the video won't be more than 4 minutes? John I'm on to you!

  • ^-^ I was waiting for that Rock The Casbah joke. Thanks for being awesome John.

  • "Hey, honey, whatcha doin'?"

"Quiet, Mom! John's discussing the political situation in Pakistan while eating twenty-four pumpkin peeps!"

    "… What?"

Thanks for the very informative explanation of Pakistani politics, John.

  • here i am eating walnuts and at the same time drooling at the peeps. WHY ARE THERE NO PEEPS HERE?!?!?

  • I'm learning more history from you guys than all of my 8 years of history lessons combined, and it's all because I don't fall asleep during your videos.

  • Pssh, and you said eating more than twelve peeps in one sitting was impossible.

  • Go lawyers! I know this video is old, but I still hold hope that things will improve for the people in Pakistan.

  • foreign polotics are so much better when YOU talk about them!

  • these are going down like butter LOL

  • @singlexfilexisxlove Hearing that makes me think he's actually tried eating butter straight :)

  • @Mercyb123 HA I'd comment on how disgusting/unlikely that is, but John IS known for slathering peanut butter on his face, so you never know...

  • ....the right to sit in a chair while working in most jobs. A CHAIR to sit during 12 hours shift sewing ? that's a socialist reform I hate that you people blindly hate anything thats not free-market measures, free market sucks it increases poverty cyclicly (not sure that's a word but poverty raises then drops then raises again in and endless loop) sorry for the long comment got kinda drawn in and couldn't stop. My first pose :P great show (kinda not a show, though)!

  • ...but i don't care greatly for the US foreign policies current or past, mainly because the US name themselves as keepers of freedom, yet they finance dictatorship and accept countries that don't respect human rights as allies. and since I'm already ranting about the us I hate that you hate everything that isnt exactly what's supposedly right, for example fox news slams on obama says his healthcare reform plan is a socialist reform, so that's bad ?you know what another great socialist reform is?

  • hey john . great video, but when you commented about "1970 south america" i think you should've included the fact that the US motivated these military takeovers because they were scared of communisism moving closer to them and becoming more and more powerful, also the US inforced advantages to dictatorship of the, let's say economic kind, and of course turned a blind eye on all the injustice and lack of justice and freedom in it's own continent, I'd like to point out that i like us citizens

  • Now I have the sudden urge to listen to "Rock The Casbah"

  • GO LAWYERS.

    my entire family is lawyers.

literally, my mom's a lawyer, my dad's a lawyer, and my brother's in Law School.

    Lawyers are awesome.

and some really are moral people.

  • Can you be my: history teacher, poli-sci teacher...everything except math teacher?

  • Roch the Casbah!

  • you do a better job of explaining things than the actual news does.

  • RIP Benazir Bhutto

  • Unfortunately, I find that somewhat insulting. I'm a 16 year old Australian, and am hoping to be a lawyer. I understand that most lawyers are awful money hungry people, but that's why I want to be a lawyer, SO I CAN STOP WORLD SUCK! I'm sick of lawyers not caring for their clients, and that's why I, as a nerdfighter, am going to be different! P.S I do understand where John is coming from though :)

  • JOHN GREEN: DID YOU NOT NAME YOUR SON AFTER ATTICUS FINCH?

    hahaha :)

  • LOVE the clash reference!!!!!!!!! xD

  • Buto in my parents' native language means 'penis'. Just thought I should let y'all know.

  • I agree with sheermomentum. John you have a wonderful understanding of politics and you making it so facsinating to hear about because you care about it so much. I really hope the situation has gotten better now.

  • don't make fun of lawyers. my dad is a lawyer but he was an english major and he really wants to be an author. look at atticus finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, he always held the moral high ground!

  • are you america?

  • one correction he became president nt prime minister dude.p.s being a pakistani and belonging to the younger generation i want to tell that musharaf was a ass.... whu mad shit outa this country bhuto and sharif were not far behind.the reason is corruption.after 5 decades we still havent gone up due to hig nt total corruption in every govrnment institution.

  • is this real life?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • pakis wwud have been bursting there piIes in a fitt if u were an indian

  • Rock the kasbah!

  • Nukes donot make America mad but Zionist jewish Govt. in America mad as they are danger for bastard Israil

  • I can't believe this was two years ago, John. That's really all I can think about, excepting only Sarah's pregnancy. But really, how soon I forget. That was a really turbid and exciting (albeit frightening) bit of political kerfuffle, and here I am, all but nostalgic. I don't really know what that signifies, but it feels somewhat wrong. Thanks for making me think, John.

  • A food with no nutritional value is known as a lubberwort.

I did not look that up.

  • i think that is very small minded of you John. Lawyers are looking for justice, which is defined by our moral standards, so thus lawyers create the moral high ground.

  • ooo 43,034 views when i was viewing!

    PALINDROME!!!!

  • Man!! That's awesome! You are so right in your analysis. Except for a couple of mistakes (Musharraf being prime minister while he was president, actually) every thing was OK. When are you coming up with the latest episode my friend?

  • I remember that...During Christmas break that year it was all over the news...Wasn't Bhuto eventually assassinated?

  • Yeah, is it sad that I learn more from you when your mouth is full of peeps than I ever learn from my history teacher? Also, the ad on the screen was for The Jacksons pop music. hm

  • This is sooooo much better than a history lesson. Thanks John.

  • my ad for this was Meet pakistani girls

    lawl.

  • hahaha thats a fun way to learn history..i actually had to read 50 pages to learn all this..but hey why not talk abt pakistani sports there is more to pakistan than political turmoil...we are the world champions in cricket!!! yeah we won the 2009 world cup!! and the whole contry has lost it..there is dancing..music ..food...its like a celebration festival going on ...pak is a pretty special country....watch the video 'the truth about pakistan' to get a better idea..

  • SHARIFF DON'T LIKE IT!!!

That made me laugh really, REALLY hard.

  • 1. thats depressing.

    2. how did you physically eat 24 peeps?! i could do 3.

    3. ...i didnt get your joke.

  • John, I'm proud of you for eating so many peeps... it did not look fun. I've attempted to eat as many peeps as I could as fast as I could and I did not get past 18 and a half.

  • You uploaded this on my birthday! =D

  • John, I think you meant "President" Musharraf. And what do you think of the situation now? The general public seems to think poorly of the new president, but it's gotta be better than the undemocratic presidency of Musharraf, right?

  • 1970's South America...

Yeah, we had some bad times with that.

  • and sorry for the slang patroitisim people often do that....

  • u r just not more than an ass hole listen 2 ur video completly pause it exactly at 1.43 seconds and start listening more carefully u said that at that time sir parvaiz musharaf becomes the prime minister of pakistan and its absulutely rubbish he was a dictator not a democrat....

  • hey what's wrong with lawyers huh???? my father's a lawyer (corporate, but still a lawyer) - do you think he's morally dubious? i think my father is a very VERY good man and if you don't think so i might have to stop watching brotherhood 2.0, which would be a shame because a) i find you guys very funny and b) it would make the around 700 minutes that i have spent watching your videos a complete waste and i really don't want THAT to happen, so i guess i'll just let that little comment slide

  • Chill out man..

  • uh, I think that you secretly love peeps. I mean, you seem to eat them a lot.

  • Why do peeps come in different colors? I've never discovered a different taste to peeps, so why the difference in color?

  • Because it's not exactly food. So they don't need a different taste to make it look different. :)

  • Dude, I wish you could have been my History teacher in high school, because you have the awesome ability to make this sort of stuff sound somewhat interesting.

  • @tegalto Yeah, that is why he is going to be teaching world history on crash course.

  • @HariSlate I'm perfectly aware... Notice I made this comment 2 years ago, long before they had Crash Course in the works.

  • Whenever I see a video where you guys eat peeps I always want some =P

  • This is awesome. I can do my homework while watching the vlog brothers.

  • The ad I got next to this video says "Meet Pakistani girls for dating & marriage." Oh Google Ads... I guess there wasn't much to work with on this video.

  • wow

you actually make me interested in this kinda stuff

    :)

    brill !

  • Comment 218:

Never had a peep but the Hallowe'en peeps look sort of cute ^^

  • musharaf sucks why the hell did he havta sack the chief justice???

  • My brother just walked in and looked at the screen and said to me:

    "That's guy's a nerd."

And it made me smile ^^

  • these peeps look so chemical, I bet E numbers and sugar is all they contain

  • Thank you muchly!! :)

  • Watching John makes me subconsciously raise my eyebrows as high as his, which makes my head hurt a fair bit.

  • MINE TOO!!!

  • i feel so smart when i recite these videos to people :D

  • I'm pretty sure paper has fiber... does this mean that paper (maybe even toilet paper) is food?

  • Right On the money Video!

  • I think you broke the 12 peeps in one sitting rule.

  • John you're awesome!

  • Peeps look so disgusting

  • That was good!!!

  • Pretty accurate there VB...

  • Isn't that the same bhuto that was recently assassinated/killed in a car bomb attack? Good call on this being an effed up situation.

I love the political catch-up segments.

  • what happened to weight watchers?

  • See, I normally hate politics, but when you say it like that, it seems like a crazy action movie just synopsized.

  • I know!!! I agree. John makes it interesting

  • i second that motion lol John DOES make it interesting!

  • hey my dads a lawyer ... but hes in bussness law so you werent talking about him

  • wow, if that was anyone else apart from john i would have got bored, but him + peeps, makes it highly interesting.

  • umm...Musharraf wasn't out for vacation..he was on an official visit to Sri Lanka making the situation of Pakistan after the Kargil affair....

  • instead of people we should be peeple.

    haha.

  • your hair looks really good in this vid

  • Wow. I've eaten Peeps before. Even had the chance to take a bunch of'm for free. I know for a FACT that I don't like them. But watching you down them makes me want to go out and try them. After that... there's a matter of getting rid of the rest.

  • Totally awesome. I have never listened so keenly to the political history of Pakistan. =0

  • John, you should do more of these! I think you should have 'Politics Friday' as well as Question Tuesday and discuss the political situation in a country of your choice... whilst eating something inedible, of course.

  • john green i feel like you did mun when you were younger? is that true. im just wondering because that would make you even more awesome than you already are.

  • You've got a talent for making just about any subject interesting. I only wish my history teacher could have done that when our class had to learn about French/English relations in Canadian history.

  • John could talk about anything like this and I would watch. For hours and hours.

I feel similarly towards Mike Rowe on QVC.

  • Good job, John! I am from Pakistan, and that was accurate to a great extent.

  • @doubleaking :thia reTARD is from USA check his profile.Asshole.Great 25 thumbs up from Nerds

  • @devilsKrEEd I'm more Pakistani than your ignorant self can ever be. You can't even type properly, let alone engage someone in an intelligent conversation. So in essence, learn some language (English, Urdu, Punjabi -- essentially whatever floats your boat) then come back with something valid to say and we'll take it from there.

  • @doubleaking :Well being in usa u can say that;s nice of you. What do you know about bombings in pakistan huh.I nearly escaped a bomb incident on pirwadhai mor(16 march 2009).The sight of the dead will haunt me forever. in rawalpind pakistan.Sitting in a country far away you have absolutely no right to argue just by watching cnn,bbc...I dont want to speak english, let alone write it.Due to linguistic imperialism i am helpless but still i am forced learn this bloody language for survival.

  • @doubleaking :So dont ever insult yourself by claiming to be a pakistani.I am proud of my country and will always defend her ideals no matter what.i will not insult english language.I love my urdu more than any other language;that implies for englishmen too as it's their national heritage.SO in essence learn about nationalism and what it takes to be a pakistani. What we are going through here cannot be understood by you.So thank u very much.I apologize if u are offended by my post 2 days ago

  • peeps are soooooooo awsome

  • haha, peep lawyers... mmmmm, tasty evily goodness!

  • WOOOOOW

  • GO LAWYERS!!!

  • I want peeps

  • 'Sharif, needless to say, don't like it." That is brilliance at its most nerdfightiest. And thank you for the very informative political lesson here. And for making funny faces because each time I paused this video, you have the most awesomest face ever.

  • i'd like to see you do more four-minute "history-lessons", because they're really informative and very interesting to watch. and it makes me want to grab a book to learn more and to read more news (i am actually a journalist, but you hardly ever fully grab the story, but only understand bits and pieces - a little overview is nice. thank you.)

  • Media fucks things up.

  • Nice time line on Pakistan politics, little nerdy but says it all.

Major shift in Pakistan politics occurred when Musharraf got baptized. Ex-military call for Musharraf to go ISLAMABAD, Jan 31 (AFP) A group of retired Pakistani military officers Thursday urged President Musharraf to step down and hand over power to ousted chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

  • Good political commentary..the news nowadays twists and contorts things so out of proportion..and it's so opinionated it's not even funny (meaning you, Katie Couric.) Thanks for clear, informative stuff. Keep it up.

  • 0:44 that did not look like a pumpkin 0.o

  • its cuz thats 2 peeps stick toghether

  • I hope that the death of Bhutto will bring people together. I hope that through her death something can be achieved. That some level of peace can be found. It's so sad to see a country torn apart politically.

Thanks John for being so concise and informative~ even with the peeps! I'm sure it really helped a lot of people understand things. Unfortunately many people don't actually know the situation, the news doesn't tell us much and I only know via my history classes.

  • Rock the Casbah! Rock the Casbah!

From the moment you mentioned the Sharif, I was singing that in my head. So glad you went there.

  • Hey, I'm Muslim AND Pakistani (double whammy!) and I agree with Mr. Green - the situation in Pakistan has reached all time high suck levels. It's very depressing topic, to tell the truth. I never thought I'd side w/ lawyers...there's a sick picture in the NY Times of a lawyer lobbing a tear gas shell BACK at the police (STICK IT TO THE MAN!)

  • Bhutto set the Taliban up in Afghanistan. She was not exactly the Ron Paul of Pakistan.

  • BHUTTO IS DEAD! i am so pissed. who's going to get rid of Musharraf now? another military dictator?

  • To make things even better? Bhutto was just assassinated.

World suck levels going up, up, up.

  • I can imagine it being the topic of John's topic for his last video. World suck levels are at red for certain. :-/

  • Major and respected political pundits would opine the radicalization of Pakistan was due to the invasion of Afghanistan, the invasion of Iraq, the threats of an Iranian invasion, the occupation of the West Bank and the horrors of the Gaza strip.

Was the initial election of G W Bush really democratic or more of an accident ??

( Re: hanging and pregnant chads. )

  • Wow John, 1 second off the 4 min cap.

  • hmm... blenderised peeps...

  • careful. pumpkin peeps give you nasty ear infections when you eat them in double dozens. crap... i'll see if i can get that dang time machine up and running asap.

  • wut joke were u waiting to tell for 20 minutes????? there was a joke???? ok i didnt get it.

  • Listen to the song, Rock the Casbah by The Clash. I believe that's what he is referring to.

  • dude - u know what i hate? ppl who make political 'sitcoms' trying to be funny when theyre really not - it just really pisses me off

i dont mind u though, ur actually pretty funny. keep em coming

  • Radicalization wouldn't have happened period if it weren't for USA intervention..

  • dont know what thegloo is talking about. Im Pakistani and you were dead on with the facts , couldnt have put it better myself.

  • musharraf became prime minster? thats all new for me

  • can some tell me hhow this affects the US in a comment above mine

  • Musharaf is ******, and the police in Pakistan is *****. Once, not that long time i saw the police in pakistan arresting a man ( on TV ) And they where like pushing him and hitting him he was screaming that he would follow with them voluntarily, but they still wont stop hitting him.....

  • Sharif, needless to say, don't like it...

    God you're awsome John

  • wow

  • haha...

mannn.. you talk way too fast[only my X-girl friend can outmatch you].. u might haven't discovered yet but u my friend is a born "Democrat" only u can fill the gap of senior bush in that party [:D]

anyway ... Your understanding about my country is spoon fed and not beyond google calm down man we are allies remeber!!!...Chao

  • Pakistan Zindabad

  • by the by, you eat far too many peeps for my healthy conscious.

  • you know, this is the kind of news I want.

  • Good points. However, I would argue that the rise of extremist Islamic parties more closely correspond with Musharaf's compliance with the US's War on Terror, versus just the mere fact that he is a dictator.

The fact of the matter is, Pakistan was in an unstable state when Musharaf went into office. Then very shortly thereafter, 9/11 happened, and for the country the size of Pakistan... it played a heavy toll on all levels.

  • As for Bhutto and Benazeer. They are both thieves who stole from their country. They don't give two shits about Pakistan. All they want is status and money.

People are rising in Pakistan, because they want to stop being the US's lapdog. To do this, they need democracy. Unfortunately, in the current political climate there... if elections do in fact take place, there is a good chance a wackjob will take office.

  • What do you idiot Americans know about Pakistan, I apologise that I was not taught about racial slavery of black or genocide against native Americans, you see our culture is far more complex than obesity, Paris Hilton, McDonalds and well a tool for a president.

Sigh Americans, I think you are the biggest world threat

  • this guy is my leader..john for president!

  • awesome...

  • explain in smaller words!

  • John, I think you're amazing! I hate peeps. And yes, Pakistan is a Terrorist nation. Good job, no spin. Keep it coming.

  • Haha...lawyers, that is sad...

  • Now I want peeps really bad...

and We were just discussing this in class maybe I should show my teacher (if you're fine w/ that)

  • why does this make me want peeps -really badly-? conundrum

  • radical + Islam = Oxymoron

  • "junk food" is still food.

  • I skimmed this because history and political stuff bores the crap out of me :/

  • exaclty 19,000 views when i clicked on this. nifty.

i was hoping ud eat something gross. but those looked tasty.

very informing. i was confused about that stuff b4 this video, still a little confused but not as bad.

    nifty.

  • This comment is also going on the site, but I just wanted to say that there are nerdfighter lawyers too!!!! Those of us who look forward to holding such positions would like you to know that nerdfighter comes before lawer. Your summary was beautiful, but you missed the part where Mushalrif promised to step down as military leader!

  • Oh I just love smart people...!! Thanks for the great summary!

  • lol did u just memorize sum lines frm sum crappy books...u know shit man

  • being a pakistani myself, but removed from the country since i was little, i say good on ya. you did a hell of a job summarizing 20 years of histori in 3 mins or so. It's is ridiculous what is going on there... and it is pissing me off like nothing before! but thanks mate for the vid.

  • heyy!! I only saw ten go in mate!!

  • Thank you so much for clearing that up for me i had no idea why lawyers were protesting... now i know.
