The World Boxing Council has named Vitali it's "Fighter Of The Year" for 2011. Since his return to the ring in October of 2008 when Vit won the WBC title he now holds by stopping Sam Peter in eight rounds in Berlin, Germany he has dominated every opponent he has faced. His record of never being behind in a fight continues and since his return he has barely lost a round.
@rikd888 Additionaly, no opponent has ever knocked Vitali off his feet. Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson all have at one time held Vitali's WBC Championship belt but none of them can say this. And yeah, No other heavyweight champion in boxing history has ever been able to say that. If anything Vit is a better fighter now than he was a decade earlier. More see rikd net/wordpress
@TomSouthLondon exactly all the no boxing brain'ers dont realise he wanted to retire previous to this fight, it was no suprise to hear he was retiring after this one..he was touching 40 more or less,
Mike Tyson kicked alot of mediocre butt.. and he has had his butt kicked repeatedly by the better boxers who could take a punch. All this Tyson Praise never was worth it in retrospect.. I remember all his fights and watched him.. some people are just inflating a Tyson Image that was completly destroyed by Buster Douglas and then later by Holifield.. Tyson was a brawler who and if you could take his punch in the first 3 rounds..you won the fight. How does his name keep popping up? Ghetto Legend.
@ricebiscuit most tyson fans are not fans of the sport, you nailed it,ghetto legend.buster douglas proved me right after the 4th round,i said tyson was going to loose, tyson had potential the power movement good solid figure, but he was not with the right team of people, they used and abused him,his fans just pity that, and hail him to beat any other great boxer, when like you said in reality, show no fear give as good as you get,and the fight will be in your favour. coz did tyson ever go 12 rounds?
@dean24uk Yeah Mike went 12rds 3 times. vs Rudduck, vs Tucker, vs Smith. I haven't seen this whole debate, but as soon as someone mentions douglas i usually switch off. I only talk about Tyson when Rooney was training him, that Mike Tyson on his best day is close to unbeatable.
@dean24uk Tyson's loss to Douglas was engineered by King. The odds were 42:1 against against Douglas. Does anyone realize just how much money could be made by betting against Tyson and then telling him to lose? Or engineering his loss by firing his real trainers, keeping him out of shape and putting Kid and Play in his corner during the fight (And Tyson still almost won: Buster was down for a long count)? I have NO DOUBT that that loss was set up by Don King to make money. NO DOUBT.
lennox Lewis should be looking at convert into WRESTLING..... Hes a boring boxer, jab, jab, grab...thanks GOD hes not fighting anymore...cos hes making it BORING....
Vitali halted his training camp for the Adamek fight on Sep 10, 2011 to fly back to Kiev,Ukraine. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS BUM WAS ON HBO WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVING A REMATCH TO A BETTER HEAVYWEIGHT AT THE TIME.HE WAS CLEARLY GETTING HIS ASS HANDED TO HIM ALMOST EVERY ROUND.
I lost all respect for Lewis after basically losing to Klitschko and not even giving him credit and immidiately retiring. Even with his pretty Brittish accent, he displayed typical nature.
@tekubus Lewis was past his prime in this fight u cant blame a man for not putting himself out there to be beaten. u would do the same thing. u wouldnt go oh well i know im oast my fighting prime and im not as good as i used to be but im still gonna fight younger faster opponents till i get knocked out . ;)
i don't have respect for lewis, he ran away and he was the one talking of heart. he ran away from klitchko, though i don't like that klitchko tree, but the credit is due to him here.
everyone knows Vitali won every single round against Lewis. if Lewis thought he was so good then why didn't he give Vitali a rematch. Vitali Klitschko was robbed in that fight. Lennox knew he would get a whooping again and therefore avoided a rematch and therefore Klitschko will go down in the pound for pound boxing legends of all time a lot higher up the list than Lennox Lewis. Vitali has dominated the heavy weights for the past decade.
This fight could have gone either way had it continued; whoever got a second wind would've won. I would like to say that Lewis deserves a lot of credit for this fight. When have we seen Vitali K. have anything like this kind of trouble with any other fighter? Normally he barely ever loses a round!
He was knocked out by Oliver McCall...who? and a Hasim Rahman who ranks where as legitmate heavyweight fighters, who, again?....just funny when you figure McCall had a breakdown in the ring and Rahman was a one hit wonder who quickly disappeared when he had no committment to boxing. Lewis was an ok fighter, nothing more.
I love reading all these idiots who don't know boxing say how great Lewis was. He fought in a time when there was no legitimate fighters out there and still ducked Wladimir Klitschko and cowardly went into retirement. Anyone care to share the great names he beat? Tony Tucker, Shannon Briggs, frank Bruno....lol! Yeah great names people remember in boxing, right? A Mike Tyson waaaay past his prime? He couldn't even dominate an old Holyfield who was way past his prime too and who
No offence, I really like Lennox Lewis, but I strongly believed that Lennox only retired because he knew that if he gave Vitali a rematch, he'd lose. He wanted a clean boxing record, because he had no losses that were not won later on, essentially having a completely clean record. If he lost to Vitali, he would not have had that.
im seein alot comments that say lennox was old in this fight. well i say thats stupid cuz hes i believe he was 38 when he fought vit an yea lennox got his butt kicked. and if you look at vit now hes 38 or 39 an hes fighting like hes only in his late 20s or early 30s
A fair way to decide a fight stopped because of a cut would be to go to the score card and see who is ahead on points at that time (if it's past the first round), call him the winner but give the opponent the option of an immediate rematch. A fight stopped in the first round because of a cut would be a no-contest with an immediate rematch. Klitschko was clearly ahead when this fight was stopped.
lewis boxes like a girl...he never impressed me as a boxer - sorry riddick bowe didn't avenge his olympic defeat. I like take it to the opponent boxers - not ring sissys!
With regard to either beating Mike Tyson in his prime would be a big call. I've never supported Iron Mike in any of his boxing matches as I'd be supporting either British or the underdog. Let’s face it Mike Tyson was rarely an underdog, IF EVER! I do believe though he was a boxing machine, and in his prime was just unbeatable.
Who knows what would have happened in this fight, Klitschko was cut pretty bad... however he certainly seemed to be scoring points still. When it looked like Lennox was tiring he'd come up with a decent upper cut or jab. I guess it's one of those things we'll never know. I agree with some of the comments that suggest that Lennox ritired rather than risk a rematch, perhaps he knew deep down that his time had come.
I dont know..... but heavyweights are getting taller and bigger or is it just me? these guys dwarf mike tyson.I think they schould be in super heavyweight divison instead of heavyweight.
I'm gonna have to agree with Cent0089, this was by far the toughest match for lewis in his whole career. But then again, we have to consider age cause lewis is almost at age limit, also vitali is quite a bit younger soo yeah.
I was a Lewis fan but he said he was going on another two years and then retired after Vitaly and didn't give him or the fans a rematch. I think they were closely matched, but Lewis got lucky with the cut and he knows it.
"if the moneys right"...it really is hard to like fighters like Lewis..boxing fans were robbed of a new champion that night and lewis wimped out on a rematch
lewis retired because he was a old man who had beaten everybody in the division worth beating, the only regrets that he can have in my opinion in his carear is not fighting tyson in the early nineties and not fighting ridick bowe as a profesional.
As for vitali i am a big fan as hes dominated nearly ever since apart from his retirement and hes an absolute gentleman outside the ring which i think desserves respect
I think Vitali was very unfortunate for that cut. To me, in six rounds Vitali was obviously dominating, boxing, foxing. Even his punches were not aimless as much as Lennox. Lennox was about to be knocked down 2-3 times, but lucky he didnt, hugging many times. Vitali is very gentleman and boxer thats why he has plenty of fans, supporting him even if he lost the match by fool referees. When Vitali asked Len to continue, just check him turning back(scared). Thats shame for a champ. Vitali is best!
one thing to say, klitschkow was the better fighter that evening, lewis had no chance and was quite in luck that he made the cut. the win-KO rate from Klitschkow is awesome i dont like his boxing style and i am not a fan but i have to admit that he is one of the best heavyweight fighters that have ever excisted .
These are two great champions and in the end the smarter fighter won... why try and make it seem like it was an unfair match? If i was Klitschko I would be tying Lewis on the inside as well... would u want to catch that lethal right uppercut? Didn't thinks so.
Prime lol Rahman rematch and Demonlished Tyson was not that along ago then he fought Klitschko and got owned Klitschko is clearly better hes 39 and still in hes prime
If you are asking If I am a Vitali Klitschko fan the answer is yes. I have been since he was an Olympic Kick boxer. I have followed his professional career with interest . I have found laughable those critics who
say he is robotic and awkward in the ring. Vitali is able to fight most oponents with hands down.
He can sense when they are going to strike and counter and hit them first even
From an earlier comment by me: Yeah, Vit reads them like a deck of cards. Then hits them with a hand called iron fist, that like a straight, when hit flush causes them to fold, opt out, or retire from the game... rikd
Vitali is very awkward, and a bit robotic. He relies a lot on his height. With that said, his awkwardness hasn't prevented him form being successful. Michael Spinks was awkward too.
You can't say who woulda won that fight and you can't say who would win a rematch. Lewis is six years older and he was way out of shape for that fight. Also Lewis always comes back in the rematch stronger and more prepared and went on to win all 3 times.
Problem is now Lewis is 44 and fat but I'd love to see him get in shape for a rematch.
Fact is though both of them have the power to end the fight with one punch.
he wasn't way out of shape he was 6 pounds over ive put on 5kgs and i look the same imgine 6 pounds ??? over hes limit hes prime weight was 250pounds and he was 256 pounds
@angiewangy123 I haven't forgotten Iron Mike. He was a great pressure fighter.
Vit nor Wlad should have trouble finding Mike when he is coming at them the whole time. That is what a pressure fighter does. However this video is about the Vitali Vs Lewis (LL Hoodoo) rematch not one that never took place. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned George but he was the linear champion when Briggs beat him. And Briggs said after the fight with Vit that he (Vit) hit harder than all of them.
@rikd888 Tyson was a pressure fighter with the speed of a middle weight. Wev'e never seen anything like him before or since so it's hard to compare Tyson to any of the pressure fighters Vit or Wlad have faced. I think he'd put both the Klischko's and Lewis to sleep but thats just me.
Mike would have been a good contender but I'm gonna have to say Vitali would have him there cause first theres weight to consider. Mike is quite a bit slower now that he is in heavy weight section. Also even if they were down weight classes, that wouldn't mean that much cause vitali can use his legs to his advantage. Also vitali's range perception is too damn good. Once a punch is thrown, that guy will be able to read it pretty well...remember that he never fights with guard up.
@angiewangy123 Thts true i agree with you,Tyson was hard to hit. But dude,Tyson didnt have exactly a strong chin. And if Vitali ever did hit him hard with that right,Tyson wouldnt even beat the 10 count.
@angiewangy123 funny how people say tyson would beat a lot of champions in his prime, when was his prime? when he lost to a guy name Buster or bit Holyfield, or are u talking bout when he beat a old Spinks, tyson overrated, if u showed no fear he lost!
@angiewangy123 Tyson is to short for Wladimir don't even want to talk about Vitalii just watch Vitali-Adamek fight Tyson would just get knocked out in the early rounds.
@papajdizzzle Tyson wasnt right since he went to prison. Tyson in the right mind is a dangerous boxer. Tyson didn't train when he fought lewis and lewis grabbed him and knackered him out. Lewis got a habit of holding on. After watching lewis and vitali, I would say lewis lost it if they let him carry on. Lewis was a lucky fighter and he left because he knew vitali would win. lewis lost the first round with tyson, tyson just got tired out and he wasnt up for the fight only the money.
Sam Peter, Juan Carlos Gomez, and Chris Arreola all came to fight. They may not have won but they at least proved they belonged in the same ring with Vitali.
Chris just beat Brian Minto a tough fighter with a 34-2 record. Brian showed no quit even after the 2nd KD but the ref stoped the fight. Didn't see that
@Cent0089 I'm gonna have to agree with you there, the vitali/lewis fight was favorable to Kltishko. Only reason it got one sided in favor of lewis was that cut lewis inflicted on Vitali :-(
IF that never happened, ithe match would have went in kltishko's way.
Lenox was starting to feel a bit diminished by the klitschkos. He did a wise thing in retiring. Besides he has alot of respect for the Klitschkos and he more or less passed the torch to them.
lennox lewis allways hold he opponents when he looses controll over the fight.. it`s a concioius strategy to "cheat" him self to victory. Just see the fight with Tyson also. Lewis is embracing Mike every time Mike tries to get close enaugh to give him a punch. This way he avoided ti get him self puches in the face by Mike but so he instead frealy could throw every punch at the face and head of mike and eventually you get a liitle exausted abn sleepy. This is the ways of Lewis` fighting-style.
boxing is about winning the fight what ever the strategy is as long as its not illegal. if your winning but boring its the boxer's risk, he can sell fights that way but the boxer still wins.
Lewsi said he no longer had the desire to train and fight every young lion who came along. he was rich and still healthy. he wisely retired. So many fighters do one fight too many.
Tyson was the greatest 20 year old champion ever! Even Ali said it in a interview right after Tyson won the championship. The trick is keeping it at that level.....
that's right bro i am agree lewis is nothing for vitali u know thats fight vitali got cut in his eye that way the fight stoped otherways lewis was almost fenished
I dont think its fair to call lewis weak, he was a champ for years and beat some really good fighters but that beign said, vitaly was whipping his ass pretty good this fight and only lost becaus of a cut, but keep in mind that now lewis is 42 or so, so he would be retired now anyway so commentating is where he needs to be at this point, not fighting.
3) Vitali Klitschko has highest KO ratio because he breaks down opponents rather than 1 punch KO's
3) It was just my personal opinion about the BIG 3 beating everyone.
4) How many heavyweights from the past have never been knocked down , have such a high KO ratio and have such a huge percentage of rounds won to rounds lost.
VITALI KLITSCHKO IS AN INCREDIBLE FIGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has the highest KO ratio because yes he breaks down his opponents as you said, but he is breaking down bums. He couldn't do it so effectively against real athletes.
Lmaoo 666marquis wat are you on aboutt atall tyson wud of destroyed vitali and any other heavyweigh in our days heavyweight boxing is boring now without tyson
Tyson, LOL. Tyson fought mostly bums in his so-called "prime." He never fought a giant with the chin and punching power and sheer size of Vitali unti he ran into Lewis, and you saw what happened there. Tyson even had trouble with James "Quick" Tillis, who was bigger than him but not nearly on the scale of Vitali. So don't give me this romanticized crap about Mike Tyson. It would have been an interesting fight between him and Vitali, but to say it would be a walkover is silly.
so ur tryna say larry holmes, michael spinks, tyrell biggs and buster mathis were all bums? i personally tink theyre not bums.. but its ur lack of knowledge about tyson
I agree but, at the same time Tyson should have been fighting in the light heavy weight or cruiserweight division. He would have be the G.O.A.T. in those weight classes.
klitschko is a very good boxer in his power game. Personally had there of been a rematch lewis would of been out of shape to have given a genuine challange.
Hyperthetically I would have been interested to see a klitschko vs tyson (88 prime) personally it would have been ko1 for tyson
I agree that Lewis got a lucky win.The fight had to be stopped cus of his eye but if you watch the round before anyone can see who the better man was.You have to remember he looked defeated cus he knew in his own mind that the min he got that cut it was gameover. If you watch the fight you can see Lewis is so tired. He was the lucky one not to be ko'd another few rounds would have seen it.That why Lewis would never fight him again,Thanks, jon
Its funny dude, I went to the Klitschko (Vitali) vs. Corrie Sanders fight, and everybody was booing Klitschko, both actually. Theyve earned their respect and they deserve it. I've always been a fan, maybe because im Russian, iono, but i've always liked the way they fight also.
everyone understand, there was still so much boxin left, do u really think that eye would of lasted, it could of been blinded the doctors were right to stop it. vitali in no position to continue- lewis wins simple as
which brother is bettter?? this one or the younger brother ??

one thing to say, klitschkow was the better fighter that evening, lewis had no chance and was quite in luck that he made the cut. the win-KO rate from Klitschkow is awesome i dont like his boxing style and i am not a fan but i have to admit that he is one of the best heavyweight fighters that have ever excisted .
MultiAngelaMerkel 1 year ago 4
@MultiAngelaMerkel then you must hate lennox lewis' style as well, because he has a boring but effective style.
ihatebobsaget1989 1 year ago
These are two great champions and in the end the smarter fighter won... why try and make it seem like it was an unfair match? If i was Klitschko I would be tying Lewis on the inside as well... would u want to catch that lethal right uppercut? Didn't thinks so.

He can sense when they are going to strike and counter and hit them first even
when moving backwards.
rikd888 2 years ago 6
rikd888 2 years ago
Vitali is very awkward, and a bit robotic. He relies a lot on his height. With that said, his awkwardness hasn't prevented him form being successful. Michael Spinks was awkward too.

You can't say who woulda won that fight and you can't say who would win a rematch. Lewis is six years older and he was way out of shape for that fight. Also Lewis always comes back in the rematch stronger and more prepared and went on to win all 3 times.
Problem is now Lewis is 44 and fat but I'd love to see him get in shape for a rematch.
Fact is though both of them have the power to end the fight with one punch.

ali, tyson in his prime, joe lewis, frazier, ken norton would destroy both of these fighers .
davidxxxesp1 2 years ago
I think the only one who would give Vitali trouble
is the one you didn't mention, George Foreman.
I'll never forget when he hit Frazier with an upper cut and lifted him off the floor. Tyson had a lot of
power but I think his height would have been a disadvantage that would be hard to over come.
Mike was a pressure fighter and Vitali thrives on fighters who pressure him.
rikd888 2 years ago 15
@rikd888 sorry to disagree with you.... but mike was to fast,
had lateral movments of a welter weight. theres no way
vit or vlad could find tyson. listen.... watch videos of tyson again
you must of forgot of who was "IRON" MIKE TYSON. take a moment. any size.
angiewangy123 1 year ago 43
@angiewangy123 I haven't forgotten Iron Mike. He was a great pressure fighter.
Vit nor Wlad should have trouble finding Mike when he is coming at them the whole time. That is what a pressure fighter does. However this video is about the Vitali Vs Lewis (LL Hoodoo) rematch not one that never took place. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned George but he was the linear champion when Briggs beat him. And Briggs said after the fight with Vit that he (Vit) hit harder than all of them.
rikd888 1 year ago 12
@rikd888 Tyson was a pressure fighter with the speed of a middle weight. Wev'e never seen anything like him before or since so it's hard to compare Tyson to any of the pressure fighters Vit or Wlad have faced. I think he'd put both the Klischko's and Lewis to sleep but thats just me.
DDeCouto 11 months ago
@rikd888
Because Briggs was punching bag in that fught, which is verry embarrassing
Regzus 3 months ago
@angiewangy123
Once a punch is thrown, that guy will be able to read it pretty well...remember that he never fights with guard up.
kratt81 1 year ago
@angiewangy123 Thts true i agree with you,Tyson was hard to hit. But dude,Tyson didnt have exactly a strong chin. And if Vitali ever did hit him hard with that right,Tyson wouldnt even beat the 10 count.
Felixg1979 1 year ago
@angiewangy123 i disagree with you, lennox killed tyson in thier fight, vitali would of jabbed tyson to death just like lennox did.

@angiewangy123 funny how people say tyson would beat a lot of champions in his prime, when was his prime? when he lost to a guy name Buster or bit Holyfield, or are u talking bout when he beat a old Spinks, tyson overrated, if u showed no fear he lost!

papajdizzzle 8 months ago
@papajdizzzle Tyson wasnt right since he went to prison. Tyson in the right mind is a dangerous boxer. Tyson didn't train when he fought lewis and lewis grabbed him and knackered him out. Lewis got a habit of holding on. After watching lewis and vitali, I would say lewis lost it if they let him carry on. Lewis was a lucky fighter and he left because he knew vitali would win. lewis lost the first round with tyson, tyson just got tired out and he wasnt up for the fight only the money.

There are good fighters but Kevin Johnson didn't
prove to be one of them.
He didn't come to fight but to survive.
His version of the rope a dope didn't work
against Vitali.
Didn't see that
tonight.

lennox lewis allways hold he opponents when he looses controll over the fight.. it`s a concioius strategy to "cheat" him self to victory. This is the ways of Lewis` fighting-style.
unlyckystrike 2 years ago
boxing is about winning the fight what ever the strategy is as long as its not illegal. if your winning but boring its the boxer's risk, he can sell fights that way but the boxer still wins.

1) Stop stalking me LOL !!!
2) Good big man beats good small man
3) Vitali Klitschko has highest KO ratio because he breaks down opponents rather than 1 punch KO's
3) It was just my personal opinion about the BIG 3 beating everyone.
4) How many heavyweights from the past have never been knocked down , have such a high KO ratio and have such a huge percentage of rounds won to rounds lost.
VITALI KLITSCHKO IS AN INCREDIBLE FIGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
andrewwpa1 2 years ago 5
He has the highest KO ratio because yes he breaks down his opponents as you said, but he is breaking down bums. He couldn't do it so effectively against real athletes.

MegaTroy12 2 years ago
666marquis 2 years ago 6
so ur tryna say larry holmes, michael spinks, tyrell biggs and buster mathis were all bums? i personally tink theyre not bums.. but its ur lack of knowledge about tyson
kickboxerD 2 years ago
Larry Holmes was a frightened old man when he fought Mike. Spinks was a blown-up cruiserweight out of his depth.
Biggs and Mathis? Gimme a break. Tyson struggled with big guys and Vitali is the biggest, the strongest, the toughest of them all.
666marquis 2 years ago 3
I agree but, at the same time Tyson should have been fighting in the light heavy weight or cruiserweight division. He would have be the G.O.A.T. in those weight classes.
