she seems to be singing (or stranged with an other man) which would mean I know not what! The words are (or stang'd wi an ether, man) as in (stung by an adder, man) Man being used as addressing someone and of course an adder is a snake.
@Preacherunico It was written (at least the words were )by a poet from the Scottish Borders called James Hogg (the Ettrick Shepherd) who was a close friend of Sir Walter Scott.
She is a beautiful girl, but she does not posses the voice required for this song. Sorry, you can give me thumbs down for this comment, but it is painful to listen how she struggles with it.
Donald McGEELavry is how she's pronouncing it. I prefer the way Silly Wizard said it. Donald MacGULLavry. And Silly Wizard said 'mon' rather than 'man', which I preferred because it sounded awesome. Also preferred the deep and rich voice of SW rather than the high pitched voice here.
I really did like Silly Wizard's version better (Probably because I heard it first XD), since Silly Wizard make me feel like dancing far better than this one. 3 stars.
The song is included in James Hogg's Jacobite Reliques, published in 1819. In the book he suggests that the author may have been a bard writing about one of several Macgillavrys involved in the '45' (the second Jacobite rebellion in Scotland) however in a letter to the Editor of Blackwood's Magazine he later admits in confidence that the work is in his words "no other than a trifle of my own, which I put in to fill up a page".
to be fair outside of the the SW version, this is pretty good, probably one of the best i've heard. Its not an easy song. propss

She sings well but I think she's not taking the right approach to this song. You know, it's a Scottish old kind of battle song...

@llewllyn79 Struggles with the words too. In particular I have no idea what she is singing at the start of verse two but it isn't the correct words.

I believe, the song pre-dates Silly Wizards cover in the 70's. It's a traditional Irish folk song. (I just shot and edited the video.)
