  • I'm from Detroit. If you guys don't know, we've had our share of killer bands come out of our fair city. Too many to mention. All I can say after viewing this video, is, wow. Wow, man, fucking WOW !

  • Peter Wolf--crazy fun like Jagger

  • "70's house band UMASS Dartmouth,Ma. Pete drinkin 2 bottles of Jack to get his voice !

  • Saw them twice...once opening for the Stones at the LA Coliseum, and then headlining at the Forum in LA. What a great band!

  • With all due respect to Aerosmith... If you're from Boston and were around in those days, you know that the J. Giels Band was by a mile the greatest band ever to come out of that city, and quite possibly the most astonishing and powerful live band this country has ever produced.

No one who was fortunate to see them live in their prime has ever forgotten the experience.

Thank you thank you thank you for some many great nights!

  • @edfou51 AMEN!!!!!

  • athens ohio 79 they had to shut the power off to make them quit playing....then the band went to the bars downtown....

  • At Hara Arena in Dayton (1979) they turned the lighjts on at 11 sharp-- Peter resisted, stopped the crowd from leaving and I swear had 10 or 11 encores-- old hockey seats 5000, kids went to the top, wiggled out on the rafters and dropped into the crowd-- absolute best show- even better than the dead-- just as good crowd energy

  • Must have been the same tour as others saw... this was at the Greensboro Coliseum,NC. J Geils came out and whipped the place into such a frenzy that they had to do an encore. After that everyone stomped and cheered until they came back out for a second encore... and yes I swear a THIRD encore. After it, people still demanded more until Peter Wolf came out and said "they won't let us play anymore!" Frampton came out and played 2 songs and was booed off the stage. 2 months later J Geils headlined.

  • Saw them in Puerto Rico back in 1971 at the Mar & Sol Music Festival, they came after Emerson, Lake and Palmer,,,,what a difference, everybody was have asleep and when they took the stage they brought the house down....

  • Fall 1971. My new girlfriend dragged me to a J geils blues band concert in the gym at WPI college in MA. Never heard of these guys before and I thought I new a lot about music. Well, they absolutely blew me away. Saw then many times after. Best live band ever. And by the way, I married that girl and still am married to her 40 years later.

  • @townie51 fuckn awesome!!!!!

  • @HABILUSJIM Thanks for the comment! I'm 60 years old and from 1966 to 1986 I've seem them all from the Beatles (yes, the Beatles) to Stones to Hendrix and in my humble opinion because everything is subjective the only LIVE band that came close to J Geils were the Ramones who I saw 3 times in their prime, '79 and 80. Rock on my friend!

  • @townie51 Ah great story..glad about the same gal..40 yrs later. So I saw J.Geils in LA where I'm from..1973 for the 1st time..I was 13yrs old. Went on to see them all over the country and more. I worked in the music industry many years and still my fav live band and more today. I've literally seen at least 500 hundred bands live or more. Saw Peter last year solo . He still rocks but miss those 70's shows with the whole band. Damn Hall of Fame put JGB in there

  • @chernand58 Thanks for the comment! Appreciate the response, very nice. Great to hear someone in the music industry shares my views. No way have I seen as many bands as you, but I've seem my share. I'm 61, never too old to rock, and the first concert I saw were the Beatles (yes, it's true) at Suffolk Downs race track in Boston August 1966. John Geils still playing occasionally at very small venues and coffee houses in greater Boston with friends.

  • Saw them a couple of times in Reno, turned around and EVERYONE was on their feet Lookin for a love, This is a real American Band. No one, absolutely NO ONE can do it like The J Geils Band.

  • its refreshing to hear a band who sounds the same live as on the album for the mos part, none of that processed synth voice changing crap

  • Kent State...early 70's......gawd it was great. Then Cleveland public hall...gawd it was GREAT. The Full House live album is a must - for any of you dues and dudettes that thnik you're blues rock. you just ani't lived til you spin that disc..,,,,,/

  • He's coming to City Limits in Wtby Ct Aug 21st 2011 get ur Tic's.....

  • best live show ever

  • I FUCKIN LOVE J.GEILS

  • Kick Ass! I saw them during the 70's and they were a Great Live Band.

  • @Winterstick549 >>> Yes it is.

  • alot of bands suffered that same fate!!

  • very connected band back in the day

  • I saw them open for Foghat here in ATL about a century ago............. longing for the days when music was music!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • was at the cinderella ballroom back around 72 or 73 for the FULL HOUSE album

  • one of the BEST live bands of all time!!!!!

  • That shit ROCKED!!!!!

  • Saw them tour with Southside Johnny half a dozen times. Best live show of any bands from that era!! Great memories from the front row. Back in the day of general admission...................

  • Saw them at the Spectrum in Philly when they opened for 10 years After doing the Full House set and they were great ! To this day it is still one of the best concerts I have ever heard. Both bands ROCKED the house !

  • luv j. geils band - fabulous - thnx 4 post

  • Saw them in summer 73 at an old roller rink in Elizabeth,N.J. called the Twin City Ballroom. No seats just standing room only. Peter Frampton opened...then Black Oak Arkansas came up with the lead singers ass cheeks hanging out his pants...not a turn on ...then JGB doing whole Full House Live album and Blood Shot Album...people blowing whistles ...ticket price $7.50 and stood 30ft. from stage. Those were the days... 70s was best decade for Hard Rock and Metal concerts

  • @zongndanceman 1st time was 1976 in Toledo Ohio, Front row, I was 11 years old, it turned me into the music fanatic i am today, still the greatest live band to ever grace a rock n roll stage!! last year in detroit was the 10th time i seen them still #1 to me,THEY BROUGHT IT !!!!

  • To Thehawkeyemark, I saw them too at Hancher, first row of the balcony, The Outlaws opened up. Peter came dancing over to the edge of the stage and yelled " The Balcony Kows How to Party" That was us

  • The best live rock band ever. These guys are from Boston and when they played everyone stood up for the whole show chicks dancing in the aisles the whole bit. Listen to Full House their live album.

  • I saw them open for the Stones in LA, the line up was; Prince(who got booed off stage) George Throughgood, J geils band, and the rolling stones. WHAT A SHOW.

I haven't heard anything about them for a while, what's up?are they still going? whammer jammer, let me hear you dickie.

  • These guys come on stage to play! No bs!

  • One of the BEST american bands EVER! R&R Hall of Lame, are you listening!?

  • God bless them. I saw them at Hancher Aud. in Iowa City in Feb 1979. Small crowd and could have blown us off. God bless Peter Wolf and the band because they said they wanted us to be able to tell those who didn't come what they missed. Here it is 32 years later and I KNOW what they missed. What legends are made out of.

  • well well, i guess they kicked that songs ass

  • JGB did and will still blow doors off any other band today! No doubt, the craziest MF live band ever. You are looking at one clip...take this and blow it out for 2 1/2 hours....ain't nothin' but a house party!!!!!!

  • This should be the next Super Bowl band! ! !

  • This should be the Super Bowl band! ! !

  • I seen J. Geils tenth anversity in the old warehouse in new Orlean what a show.

    Peter Wolf was the man.

  • @MAPS6994 I seen the same show in California, Jay had on a pink tux on with big ruffles, and wolf stil had his walking stick, and all his clothes wear jet black along w/beard and sun glasses.

  • Back when Concerts had Speakers ....I remember when Geils used to come to Pine Knob for 6-7 Nights and set up Shop !!.................Both walls on the sides of the Pavillion were lines with Cabinets all the way up roflmaooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I even spelled comments wrong! So excited!!! J. Geils was the BEST!

  • Agree !!!! All coments!!! Rock N' Roll at it's BEST!!!!

  • Love Bruce...but he stole from the boys of J Geils.....no big whoop...everybody does it...this fucking band rocked and I'm so sorry I never saw them

  • So right! I would hate to follow them! Best live band ever!!!

  • @ukeuke4u LOL...it was a required party album when I was in College in the 70's...heh

  • Best live band I ever saw by far..

  • made loud to play loud, no more said

  • I saw J geils many times at the spectrum in Phila.they usually opened for other bands but blew them off the stage.Fantastic live band and under rated.they should be in the hall of fame!

  • J Geils, Magic Dick, Peter Wolf, unbelievable . The J Geils Band should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

  • Get you Asian wife lushfmlk.info

  • Seen Giels back on there 10th aniversry show in the old whare house in New Orlean what a party what a place.

  • Greatest LIVE act EVER!!!!!

  • J.Geils Band is an amazing band, only one time I have seen them live in Vienna 1982, the opening for the R.Stones. A lot of people said, they had a better show and a better sound as the Stones. I have seen the Stones a couple of times before, I was just interested in the J.Geils Band. Their concert was the only one in Austria.

  • awesome!! just a w e some!!

  • Comment removed

  • Magic Dick on the lipstick... Awsome Harmonica Player !!!

  • @stillthe1 Thats " Magic Dick on the Lickin' stick " ... That Peter Wolf howls...

  • Great Kick-Ass Rock n Roll!!!

  • rock n roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved these guys, one of my favorites. saw them June '79 cape cod coliseum, what a concert. Great time, great friends. They were best in 70's though. When Love Stinks came out, it was beginning of the end. they got away from hard rock blues and into the glam shit.

  • They don't rock like this anymore.....J. Geils Band was one of the all time greats...

  • @jakeelee904 J. Geils Band STILL rocks.

  • Greatest american rock band of all time

  • LOVE YA J. GEILS BAND WITH PETER WOLF! Thanks for uploading this. Saw them

in Chicago many times, sure with they'd play out here near San Diego (or LA)

    CA! HAWT PARTY BAND!

  • Who puts it all out like that these days?? fuckin nobody thats who !!

  • I had the blues, the reds and the pinks.

  • I've been to a lot of concerts in the 1970's and nobody...I mean NOBODY brought the entire Winterland audience to it's feet like this band did. The only other show I ever saw where the fans were as up on they're feet and rocking the house down was the WHO and that's a FACT!!!

  • @suzycreamchez123 I agree!! I saw them in 1983 in Seattle when they opened for the Rolling Stones in the old kingdome ~ danced our butts off!!! Fab dance band!!

  • Blues rock high energy just great!

  • Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

  • And it was the 4th of July!

  • I had seen them also in the early 70's, I think they opened for POCO and yes, they stole the show.

  • I saw them in Orlando at the Tangerine Bowl. WOW what memories.

  • Wow, what a performance! Great post! My only regret is while growing up I was into more heavy rock/metal and only liked "You got to give it to Me," I never listened to any other songs by Geils Band. Now I have most of their cds/mp3's including my favorites "Blow your Face off," "Monkey Island," "Full House," and their first one. Phenomenal rythym section! Truly one of a kind, nobody else like them!

  • Without a doubt the greatest rock n roll band ever!!!!!God I miss the days of my youth when I used to see them rock the house in Providence!!!!Would do just about anything to see the show this summer at Fenway Park!!!!!!!

  • Best party band ever!

  • ass kicking and TIGHT! Damn i miss them!

  • I saw many of the big name groups in Chicago back in the 70s-Zep, the Who, Floyd, Stones, and many others, some friends had to talk me into seeing J Geils, they were playing at the Aragon "Brawlroom' near my neighborhood, I had never seen any band before or since put forth so much raw energy, they had audience standing and dancing on there seats the whole show. That concert will aways live on in my memories as my all time favorite!

  • What Memories! Where can I find a live DVD concert of these Great's?

  • Greatest party rock and roll band live [!!]?

  • I've been a J.Geils fan since the early seventies. They once opened for Foghat and Peter Frampton in Anahiem Ca, way back when. Honestly, I couldn't see how anyone could have followed them after that nights set. Foghat tried, but couldn't match them, and Frampton was a dud. And Frampton was the headliner! Like the Announcer 's intro, "The incomparable J. Geils Band"

  • @riversidekidd u suck badly

  • @riversidekidd Me too. I saw them the 2nd time in Memphis at a stadium with the Rolling Stones and someone else. What a show!!

  • @houseof4doorsmc, If I remember right, the other band was George Therogood. The Stones came to LA on two different tours, both times they had J.Geils open for them. On the second tour, the show was in June I think. J Geils came back in October that same year and headlined their own show. Thats the show that U2 opened for them, and got booed off stage. That would never happen today with U2 lol.

  • @riversidekidd I was in a band that opened for JG back in '73. I can't imagine having to follow them, they kicked ass in all directions.

  • @riversidekidd i saw that tour, too.. Springfield Mass. and i agree!

  • @riversidekidd I saw that same tour but in Springfield Mass., he blew poor Mr Frampton off the stage. :) yup, way back when.

  • @riversidekidd If J. Geils opens for you, stay in the dressing room because your presence is no longer necessary.

  • Leecaw..the Stones I love... but Mick told Peter to calm it down if you want to open for us..(truth!) You don't show up the Stones..which J. Geils band could have done..But it was great to see them open for the Stones way back when..

  • @chernand58 saw them together in 1983 they ROCKED the Kingdome!!!!!!

  • My friend bought tickets to see J Geils when I turned 18 We hitch hiked to San Francisco !! Best present I ever got

  • That's correct. I saw J. Giels open for the Stones in Seattle (Oct, 81) and they were so incredibly energetic and talented that they made the Stones set seem like an afterthought.

  • These guys were so huge in Detroit it was unreal - they only made one album after MTV began. I believe they sold out 7 shows at Pine Knob in '82. The capacity there is 15,200.

  • @MrEvolution513 Back again Sat. Aug 21!

  • I remember that TV show very well. I saw it with some friends and lots of beer ;-)

  • Steve Tyler. Aerosmith.

  • Saw Aerosmith a couple of months ago. Pretty disappointing. Not a lot of energy.

  • Name a better front man than Peter Wolf? Hell name a band that rocks harder than J. Geils Band.

  • Prince from Prince and the Revolution.

  • Prince is BORING AND OVERRATED.

  • not on his BEST day

  • BEST American rock band bar none. Saw them a half dozen times live. As tight live as they are on record.

  • I agree. I was an usher in 73 and they played the Auditorium Theater in Chicago.I was not a rock fan and had never heard of them and to this day I don't like their recordings. But man let me tell you. I've never heard a band sound so good live. Peter Wolf was energetic as hell and their harmonica player was fucking awesome.

  • @kennyb50 I was there dude and I think you told me to put that funny thing I was smoking. The best live act ever bar none I seen them a least ten times. Glad you got turn on to them.

  • @ufohighlights71 -- Hell yeah. They don't make the big lists of rock bands these days, but they had a stage presence to make just about anybody else ashamed to call themselves rockers.

  • remember at the end of fast times at ridgemont high when sean penn spent his reward money for saving brooke sheilds life by hiring van halen to play his backyard birthday party? I'd of hired the JGB, much better party band

  • Awesome! Was lucky to have seen em once back in 1976 at Roosevelt stadium in New Jersey when KISS first introduce the Destroyer tour. It was night never to forget. J. Geils Rocked big time!

  • Lots of Energy abd Lots of Fun!

  • ..wow ....

  • my pops was tellin me how these guys came on as unknowns in the early 70s for a major headliner and just blew the damn crowd away!! I can absolutely see why -- I mean Magic Dick is the shit!

  • @GlassEyedVision That rock band that they blew away was The Stones. They didn't keep Geils on the tour for to long.

  • say what now?!?! J Geils did not "blow away" the Stones....you should know that the Stones loved hanging with the J Geils band so much that they invited them to open EVERY single show on the 1982 European tour...

  • @gdafu2 geils would be a tough band to tour with because they were so crowd appealing live.people went crazy when they played.

  • This is when these guys were ON! Steven T. got his best shit from watchin these guys.funky, funky stuff.

  • THIS IS ROCK AND ROLL

  • Stone cold motherfuckers...fuuuuuck these guys are cool!

  • check out live on letterman, still got the moves, incredible 30yrs later. lol enjoy

  • Wow!!! That is a tight band . i saw them in 1975 at Asbury park. The new bands today do not even compare.

  • Comment removed

  • My favourite band of all time bar none.

  • Didnt know Geils were so big in Germany. Cool!

  • They weren't at that time. This was the first time they were broadcasted live in Europe. In many countries, though, and this was the first time I saw and heard them. What a show, and what a band! Still love them...

  • JULY 11 2009 Live at the Borgata Atlantic City NJ BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HA !! What crap !!!

  • Hey Carlsbiz, you think this is crap? I see from your channel that Rush is your favorite band. Well I saw Rush and The J Geils Band just a few months apart in their heyday back in the late 70's. Rush was a good show, but The J Geils Band had the crowd in such a frenzy they about tore the building down. Rush just stood on stage and recreated their records. The J Geils Band threw a rock 'n roll PARTY!

  • Yup - your right.. I loved TJGB back in the 70's & saw them 4 times and was pumped just like everyone else that was there - but I'm over it now.. And your right about Rush too.. The DO stand on stage & recreate they're music.. That is what true Rush fans want.. Have you seen the DVD Rush in Rio !?! Simply amazing !! Yup - & great musicianship too !!

THIS video is a far cry from what Rush has been doing - all these years...

What has TJGB been up too ?

  • The difference between seeing The J Geils Band and Rush live was like the difference between a recital and a revival meeting. J Geils is still one of the best live bands I have ever seen. And yes, I have seen Rush in Rio. South American audiences are always amazing; Rush is a pretentious snoozefest.

  • "pretentious" !?! Rush does not "pretend" anything..

Its all a matter of likes - dislikes & opinions - is all..

  • Carlsbiz, Sorry man, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. You're right. It's all a matter of likes -dislikes and opinion. Rock on.

  • wooba groova letme hear ya MICHIGAN PALACE 1972

  • Peter WOLFA GROOV YA hahahha The BEST FRONT MAN !!! Style, class, awesome vocals, best dancer, he's got it all BABY !!!!!!!!!GOTA FIND MY BAYBAY

  • I went to the april 24th concert here in detroit, i was right in front of the stage!!!! the whole band is the same as 1972, when they played here ALL the time. Peter is unreal. geri st. clair shores, MI

  • At least one good I can say about turning 50, I can say I saw some great bands in my day. Not this garbage out today and the last 20 years.

  • Still on my Geils high from the House of Blues show 04.28. Peter and the boys still rock!

  • I heard that brother and sister (age 51)

Although I thought there was some good rock in the 90's and early 2000's (STP, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age)

  • It's FINALLY here!!! TONIGHT!!! In Detroit!

  • ME TOO!!! :0)

  • Good times, in BOSTON!!!!!!!!!

    JM

  • Did you notice that whenever Magic Dick blows his harp the WHOLE THING kicks into overdrive? Dick was one of the crucial factors of the Geils band's sucess ; )

  • HELL YEAH! Their version of the song is the best version!

  • Lovin' it-best 'party - dance' band I've ever

    seen in Chicago.

  • This is a J. Geils. No lack of effort EVER.
