That's actually the sound a hamster makes when it's stressed and scared. There's another sound when they fight with cagemates over something that's actually a high pitched squeak. I haven't had a hamster that squeaks when they're happy so far, but anything's possible, I guess

My hamster is just like urs but I got him today and he is just like that I'm not ganna pet him I'm ganna wait till he gets used to us seroundings. But she likes to nibble on my fingures idk if she is scared or what!............. Ur hamster is really cute tho looks just like mine, well thaks:)

Any time you purchase a new pet, be it reptile or hamster, you need to give it two or three days to itself in its new environment. This cuts down on stress and allows the hamster to dictate territory.

I think he squealed because he was a little annoyed. Do not provoke a hamster, or he probably will bite. Doing what occurred in the video will probably make your hamster even more nervous, and therefore he will react aggressively towards you.

Hey, I got a Winter White too. He was SUPER aggressive in the beginning and bit everyone and squeaked like crazy. But I began to slowly feed him some of his fav foo - plums and strawberries - through the bars of his cage and over a few months, he became docile. Now I can pick him up and stroke him like my previous Syrian hamsters. Don't worry - just spend time with him and let him sniff your finger everyday. Feed him his fav treats by hand so he associates you with nice things and he'll warm up.

He did seem very grumpy. I think it wanted to go to sleep. Ours is a vicious little sod if he gets woken up.... until he finds it's food being put in.

i just got mine 3 days ago and she was like that start out wearing gloves to let her/him get used to u (i used baseball gloves) snd when she bites it wont hurt and just kepp holding her and put one hand infront of the other to let her walk and eventully shell let u hold her and she wont bite..mines pretty much already after 3 days but i still use the gloves a little like when i take her from her cage to the playpen

My roborovski squeaks just like that... but what's really weird is that I used to have a hamster that looks exactly like yours and he actually squeaked, rather than the little "zap" sound. :S

My hammie did the same thing when I brought her home. She was fine after I hand trained her better then a nasty pet store with nothing but 10yr olds picking them up and dropping them all the time. And now she's still alive to this day, ripe old age of three, going on four.

feed them a treat with your hand and let them take it from ur hand then later when its used to you try to pick it up

well theres a difference in serious and normal. I can tell if shes having a respitory problem if her squeaks sound very violent. Hers are just like a small, faint squeak. Sometimes you can't hear it.

I think the hamster you got is adorable! I say try using some treats to get him to be more friendly and open :) Eventually Dicey will let you pick him up
