hi firstly great vid but i have a question after takeoff when i engage the ap the aircraft pitche sup and down all over the place and the autothrottle is stuck full on no matter what i do can you help?
hang on you know the flaps? well retracting them i thought you went one below... i.e. as it passes through 15 on the speed tape set flaps 5 and as it passes through 5, set flaps 1 etc.
That's only in real life. Shortly before pushback the flight crew is given documents containing the various aircraft weights for input into the FMC. This item shouldn't be on the before takeoff checklist.
I've had instances where I've changed acceleration and reduction heights in the takeoff page of the FMC like you did to 3000 and 1500 and then after takeoff the A/T mode never changes back to THR REF (stayed on HOLD) and VNAV never engages (stayed on TO/GA). Do you know why this happens? I appreciate all your assistance in the PSS777.
On rare occasions, I get this problem too. No idea why this happens. Usually I'll repeat the flight from the point before pushback (I save after loading the FMC). Seems to be a hit or miss. Try your flight again with and without the FMC modifications to see if it's the cause.
Well, I tried again without the Takeoff page modifications (eg. I didn't touch the Acceleration or Reduction heights), and the problem still happened again. However, I was also doing something else different: I decided to just predetermine the runway at my destination and selected the STAR beforehand which I normally do, but this time, I added a missed approach track based on the charts. I don't know if this caused some glitch, maybe I'll try again w/o doing this till I'm airborne and see.
How do you know the trans alt and stuff? What is the Taxi speed? At a tight turn,do you apply brakes or lower throttle. How long after take off do you activate A/P.And at all times the Heading, sped and Alt is not touched?
Do you mind to teach me how to determine the transition level? Is it from charts or what?
Usually how would you determine the waypoints of a particular route? I use the default flight plan and it is routing me correctly through KASRI and GUPTA (apart from the wrong SID/STAR which I corrected it manually by referring to charts). But the return flight is routing me through VMK OGAKO TOPOR ARAMA etc.
1 last question, how do you determine which SID/STAR to use, apart from from the runways itself?
Transition altitude/level can be found in the SID/STAR charts, or the AIP for the country you're flying in/to. The default FS flight planner does a pretty decent job. The slightly different routing for your return flight is normal. In this case you'll use the BOBAG arrival from ARAMA. Generally, you'll select a SID/STAR that matches the direction you're flying from/to an airport.
I found that there's 2 STAR from ARAMA: BOBAG 1B and LELIB 2B. How would you determine which one to use?
Oh, and one important one, how do you determine the charts to use from their names? Because the name is totally meaningless and unrelated to the route's waypoint (BOBAG, PASPU, REMES etc), and it's frustrating to open each to check the arriving waypoints that lead to the STAR.
According to CAAS, aircraft arriving on airways A464 are to use BOBAG arrivals. Your return routing uses A464 (TOPOR, ARAMA) so either BOBAG 1A or 1B can be used depending on the runway.
That's easy, open every chart, then save it with a meaningful name into your PC.
Usually I open the charts directly from websites, so I can't name them. As for WMKK, I found out that there are 3 STARs: NIPAR 3A, 3B and LAPIR 2. I'm confused which one should I refer to, is there any restrictions by DCA Malaysia?
For ATC issue, do we obey ATC instructions or follow our own STAR? Because FS ATC always diverts me from actual STAR routes, and it's annoying if not follow it, and there's one instance it directed me to nowhere and suddenly cancel my IFR...
Haven't checked the AIP for malaysia so I'm not sure. Probably fine to use any of them. In real life ATC instructions take precedence. If you really want to fly a STAR, then don't use ATC for the flight as it gets in the way.
Yes I could, but I won't be able to get some realism such as IFR clearance, etc. I can ignore their command to fly my own routes, but it will nag me like "xxx, please expertise your turn to 270". If I don't use ATC, it's kinda weird to ask ATC to "depart straight out" for an IFR plan.
Anyway, thanks for your time and patience in answering me! Really appreciate it. I hope I could seek for your help in future should I have any questions.
Just to bring the latest news: AVSIM is destroyed.
Yes, please do! I'm interested to see the 744 for myself :)
Nope, it's not samsoft. I simply downloaded a new AFCAD (a file that specifies all taxiways, runways and parking spots for an airport) file for WSSS from AVSIM with the correct runway designations. I then edited it further to include T3 gates and taxiway EN to 20C threshold. The AFCAD does NOT change the scenery (terminal buildings etc) though, only gates, taxiways and runways.
You should get WSSS scenery from Jan Martin's ACOF jetways and terminals package final. It's the only available free scenery that has T3 with jetways (I like to call it aerobridge). Do tell me if you found a better one :)
I've tried it before, but the taxiway layout is wrong in several places and it's a pain to install, you need packages 9 all the way to the final one, and it messes up the top-down view-zoom in more then a certain amount and the apron/taxiways disappear.
Oh, you don't need package 9, there's one version called "Jetways & Terminals For ACOF Package Final" which is his last compilation of all his previous works, and is installable as it is (Nov 2008). As for the taxiway layout, hmm, I know nothing about the actual taxiway so I don't know. It's not photoreal after all, apart from having T3 and aerobridges, but it's still miles better than the default. I'm looking forward for a higher quality Changi.
Visited the website for screenshots, looks promising and amazing! Unfortunately I'm not using FSX. It's too memory, processor and space demanding, and many add-ons don't support it.
Under FS9: View->View options->Axis indicator (choose from a list).
I wasn't using it but forgot to turn it off. I used to have it on in the beginning when I used the 2D cockpit to taxi, but I've switched to using the VC and proper visual cues for taxiing so I don't need it anymore.

Hey , I've followed your video from part 1 , it is really help me but why is my 777 didnt climb to the cruise alt ??
MrInNoVa333 9 months ago
@MrInNoVa333
1. Were you stuck at a CDU waypoint altitude constraint? If so, push the altitude selection knob to delete the constraint and continue the climb.
2. If you've dialed a lower altitude into the Alt window, change it to your cruise level, then push the altitude selector knob to resume climb.

Hey jimfwh this video helped a lot. But on the Before Takeoff Check what is the final load sheet? How do I get it if at all? Thanks

Right click the AT ARM switches on the MCP.

what ATC program are you using? This video is awesome!

None. The ATC in the videos is simulated with a voice synthesizer.

1. It's available from the SID chart.
2. <10kts in apron area, up to 20kts on a straightway. I do 90deg turns at ~5-6kts
3. AP can be engaged anytime above 200ft.
4. Heading and speed is handled by LNAV and VNAV automatically, Set the altitude knob according to ATC instructions.

Which ATC do you use? is that Radar Contact?

The ATC is simulated using a voice synthesizer. I wanted to show the kind of phraseology used by WSSS ATC.

Can't afford it at the moment. Besides, my PC only slows down when recording with fraps. Without it, it runs FS9 just fine.

You could join us here at IVAO network to have realistic ATC ( real people talking ;) )
Or you can check out Radar Contact ( not sure about the name ) for slightly more realistic ATC (still talking to a computer =( ).
and BTW @jimfwh, really awesome videos. keep it up waiting for part 5
