The opening scene is Elaine Paige and it was made probably as promotional material but it featured in a tribute to Paige that aired on the SouthBank show when she started in Sunset.

Anyone who says the silents couldn't handle sound only has to look at Sunset Boulevard to know it isn't true. God,when she looks at the flickering light of the film, the light haloing her hair and then the turn ... the look that could stop your heart...there isn't an actress today who can do that. And her voice combined with her face, her emotions, taking you closer to the edge than any would dare go...

So thankful a great director was able to capture that for all time. Bravo! BRAVO!

LOL Im slightly confused as to why Elaine Paige is playing Norma Desmond playing Gloria Swanson... Gloria wasnt like that in person at all. She was neither bitter nor resentful that her career in pictures didnt move into talkies. She moved to New York and had a very successful run in radio. She didnt even originally want to make Sunset Blvd, but her agent said she would be a fool if she didnt because it was the greatest role every written for anyone...
