Not ashamed to admit I cried when I heard Coop had died. Roasted my heart on a few occasions when he ripped my beloved Celtic to pieces but God was he a joy to watch. If it had been a Brazilian who had scored that goal in the Dryborough Cup we'd still be raving about it. RIP Davie Cooper..Scotland and Rangers footballing GENIUS!
I remember standing at Hampden on the terraces as an Aberdeen fans and seeing Dave Cooper standing over that freekick and having a sinking feeling in my stomach even before the smashed it into the top corner! What a player he was, died on my birthday as well.
Apparently Jim Leighton later told Davie that he actually got his fingertips to 'that' free kick to which Davie replied "Aye ... maybe on the way oot!" Pure class!
Look carefully at 3:11 and you will actually see him cross the ball with his right peg! :c)
we love you Davie Cooper, sadly missed... watched this video again and it brought back how good you were....hope you enjoyed watching Walter deliver 3 in a row!
Rangers and Celtic fans have more in common than we have differances.
We should be proud that Glasgow has two massive teams, sadly we are no longer massive in football terms, but known for our outdated hatred for each other, great players on both sides through the years, well done to the Celtic fans for the positive comments,Rangers fans please take a leaf out of Walter and Ally's feelings for a Celtic legend in TB,also gone too soon .RFC supporter.
Davie Cooper ! Simply the best left footed player in the world in the eighties , his skill and quick thinking on the ball was second to none . watching this clip makes me laugh at how so called world class players like rooney and ronaldo can command such high price tags. Makes you wonder just how much Super Cooper might have been worth if he was in his prime today .
They don't make them like that anymore. Not just the most gift man ever to wear a Rangers shirt, but died young teaching young lads how to play football. Inspiration doesn't seem to cut it for me.. In Cooper we trust. Nice to see you Celtic boys appreciating him, and nice to know some of us enjoy the rivalry for the right reasons.
A Joy to watch, the most talented player of his and many other generations. I remember going to watch him play for Clydebank before he signed for the Gers, even then you knew he was special. Apart from making many goals, he scored some of the best, the Keepy up goal against Celtic was incredible, the free kick against Aberdeen was sensational but the penalty he scored against Wales to put us in the world cup finals was class, with loads of bottle to take that responsibility. Davie Cooper, RIP
As a fervent Celtic fan let me say one thing, What player!!! Always a joy to watch, even when he bamboozled the hoops defence!!! God bless, a true gent!!!
Im a Celtic fan too full respect to the man.. after watching Scotlands performance against the Czech republic last night and then this it really saddens me.. where is the skill ? were is the ball control or athletisism? the scottish games in a sorry state..
iam a celtic man m8 but my son supports the rangers,i will tell you this pal,he was some bloody player, god look at the players now to the likes of cooper who played for the club, what a player eh m8,to yhink he was onlt 39years old,god makes you wonder,i will always remember him m8 and my son will see the man the legend davie cooper,by the way i like your wee tribute to him very nice.
I love the comment that Leighton made on the free kick in the final "I almost got a hand to it" said leighton "Aye, on the way back out" responded Davie Cooper!!!
he reminds me a bit of giggs ,the flair ,the burst of speed, the genius control ,if he plays in todays game ,the world wud definitely know more about this wonderful player, davie ur a rangers legend
@simooney07thats really good mate a celtic fan showing huge respect for a rangers ledgend. i am a motherwell fan and although i didnt get to witness the mans greatness i still view him as one of the grwat scottish footballers like jimmy johnstone a genuis down the wing the heavens 11 have got to footballing greats down the wing.

Great video and it's a disgrace that one small minded user (f******) chooses to use foul language after an opposing fan leaves a genuine compliment.
Don't worry his time is running out

I never tire of watching Coop's skill, alongside Gazza probably the most entertaining to watch with the ball at his feet.

I noticed a couple teams that featured heavily getting it tight from Mr Cooper - Celtic of course and Dundee Utd lol
How much would he be worth in todays transfer market?
It's frightening to think.
I'm lucky enough to have met him, great man.
