  • Adam, this is "high quality" even when you don't watch in HD.

  • was that the ghost of howlin wolf

  • I used to see these guys every time at a place called fat fish blue in cleveland. I was underage but could easily get in. they were my favorite touring performers of the blues explosion of the late 80s early 90s.

  • Przyszedł sobie podchmielony gościu zaśpiewał mojo i wszyscy dobrze się bawili :) Trzeba u nas w kraju też takie występy na ulicy zrobić , oczywiście grając bluesa :)

  • I love the main riff

  • Hmm, well I'm a big fan of the harp man here and guitar- singer. Seen a catalogue of past utubes and by and large very good.great raw soleful blues.I have to say on this it is not happenning with that drummer. The other two are fighting to stay afloat with that type of drumming. It just sounds a struggle. It is fairly obvious what the drummer is doing to make that music clod hop along.20 minutes with a jazz or good blues pro should put him right.

  • Great lighting the video was killer you guy's sounded great! Respect to you all!

  • Great!

    greetings from germany!

    just amazing!

  • Pure bluesy joy! Love it!

  • Great!!!

    greetings from south Italy

    Bad Chili

  • Glad to see two of you are back.

    I'm really glad.

  • No one can the blues like you Adam. You get mad props.

  • awesome

  • amazing.

  • absolutly excellent. coming to Chicago anytime soon?

  • No, I'm afraid not. See the personal appearances page on my website, Modern Blues harmonica (dot) com.

  • Mr.Gussow the singer on the mic did he just walk up out of nowere? Good stuff love it.

  • Yes. Just a....random blues singer, prowling the festival. For real.

  • all i can say when are yous coming to.philadelphia

  • We're playing World Cafe Live in Philly on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Google it! Great downtown gig, with Charlie Sayles opening. Please be there, and bring a friend or three.

  • dude, that's my birthday! That'd be the first place i'd drive to alone.

  • Oh man, I am howling over the impromptu guest vocalist! Adam, you are a true master of not only the harp but human nature! Tom

  • Shades of Maxwell Street & Chicago! XO to Satan and Adam!!!

  • Thats the real deal - raw and live as blues should be played. Satan and Adam rock!!! Adam, keep on playing during the vocals as much as you want. Most of us harp players can't get away with it but it works for Satan and Adam. I think its because your playing is so rhythmic that it becomes part of the groove and doesn't compete with the vocals. Jim McBride

  • so informative throughout your history . The university of mississipi sure are fortunate .

  • Everything about this video is great. the mix of all that's happening around you...the people walking by. The way the building has that checkered low wall...the music fits right in there...heat of the day sort of thing!

  • Good Harp'n! A couple of ideas, call and response would sound great here between harp and vocals.

The low C in the 1 thu 4 whole is actually the same frequency of a male singers (tenor/baritone) low C and the C in the 4 thru 8 whole is high C in vocals.

I've found that harp and vocals at the same time is like two singers in competition singing in the same key but different notes. For harmonica, the pauses are as important as the playing.

  • I know that. It's one of my core principles, in fact: call and response between the vocals and harp. That's what I'm doing here. But part of what has always made the Satan and Adam sound is that I'm also playing, at lower volume, WHILE he's singing. In this case, because the cameraman was closer to me than to him, his vocals were muted.

Sonny Terry, of course, played ALL the time while Brownie was singing. Bad Sonny! Bad, bad, bad.

  • Now thats some great street jammin'! Thanks for sharing it with us Adam.

  • That's about as good as I've seen .Optimal use of the harp.

  • Sweet! My band covers this great Jimmy Reed tune but more in the vein of the traditional groove, which is not as much fun for the harp player (me!). I like your interpretation better. I sent this link to my mates for inspiration.

  • Props to you Adam, and Sterling, for still sticking to your street roots after all your acclaim! I was at the Helena fest a few years back and some of the street players were quite good, but if I got the chance to hear you guys out there I'd be in heaven! Heavy tip bucket contributions! Love the impromptu audience participation too and the way you guys rolled with it.

  • Hey, Its not a criticism! but I know a lot of really good individual players but it doesn't make them the best band players.

    'No "I" in T-E-A-M'!

Thought I'd make the point because your tutorials are the best things on the net, and playing on your own is one thing - playing with other players is another!

  • Great individual playing Adam, but I prefer it when you don't play over Satan's singing.

  • Good point. Earlier in the set, several players told me I wasn't quite loud enough. I was trying to compensate for that. It's hard to get these things right. I work hard to stay out of his way, lowering my volume during his singing. Part of my job as harp player is to keep the groove; if you check back through our recordings, you'll find that I ALWAYS play during his singing, except on slow songs. When I get the volume thing wrong--or when the cameraman is on my side rather than his--: boo

  • cool regards from your friend in juarez mexico nice to see satan and you again

  • sounds good :) thanks.

  • you are layin it down hard. How can those people jus walk by. that is some heart pumpin soul thumpin good stuff.

  • I admire you and I would like to study harmony with you. keep the roots of your music, and that's the best thing for a musician.!!!!!

I'm from Argentina, 21 years old, you are the best adam!! please answer me!!!!

I would have to be born in Harlem!!!

  • Adam,

sounds really great. Happy to see Satan looking so strong.

You definitely got robbed out of another solo at the end when things were just percolating. another example of harp player disrespect! all the best, David Barnes NYC

  • Wow that is so awsome and you look like you are having a ball!

Love the back up riff, I vote for a lesson that one.

Hope to see you in West Virgina again.

    Paula

  • Aaah!! This is the stuff right here.. What puts the blue in blues for ya..!

  • Satan and Adam. I don't know if I would go to hell or to heaven, but it's still a great pleasure to listen to Satan's deep voice and your harmonica playing. Especially in the street!

  • Wow! Prof Adam, almost like you're back in Harlem! Finally an image to go with the descriptions in your books. Thanks.

  • Hello Adam great video. I watched it in high quality and it really makes a difference. Is it a G harp you are playing there? it is fantastic to see you both playing again in the streets. Big Hug from London your friend Charlyharp.

  • The song's in the key of G; I'm playing a C harp.

  • Deffinetelly, you have the rigth to call yourself the big daddy of the bleus harmonica. Any project of doing a lesson with that riff? it was really cool.

    Cheers

  • Thanks for that. Maybe I should do a lesson on this. Much of what I'm doing was inspired by what Kim Wilson does on "Learn to Treat Me Right" and some of the stuff he did on the LUDELLA album with Jimmy Rodgers, although of course I did what we do--I took those excellent materials and refashioned them to the task at hand.

  • MAN! Is this part of the documentary? This is TOO fine! Mr. Moore did a great job with this. MAJOR KUDOS! Aw, man! I just wish Stevie Ray and precious little Jeff Heeley could have jammed with you guys. Does Mr. Satan play any slide? Wow, you guys WAIL! LOVE IT! Thanks for this POST! ROCK ON!

  • This is my favorite live post you have done so far. the mijo is so good. Tight!!!

  • Oh yeah

  • excellent! thats some mojo working right there...

  • You're tremendously giant, Kudzurunner !!!!

  • Sounds GREAT!!!!! I wish I was there.

  • Got my boss man workin'! Really enjoyed the athmosphere, that's cool!

  • great stuff!

  • KICKIN!!!!!!

  • I wanna know what Adam said to the guy at around the 3.20 mark.

Thanks for posting this up Adam, you're so cool!!

  • It sounds to me like something to the effect of "We're doing 'Big Boss Man'" and he replied with "that's alright" and continued with his song. That whole exchange is too funny. ^^

  • Yeah that's what I heard, haha

  • Exactly. Actually, although he was singing the chorus of "Mojo," it's possible that his lyrics were more of a hybrid in the direction of "Big Boss Man." I thought it was great stuff, regardless.

  • I had a grin on my face when he started singing. Caught me by surprise! I'm sure it's all in the name of good fun which is what I found so beautiful about it. Lookin good Adam!

  • Though I wouldn't like that happening to me though!!! :p

  • Truly Modern Blues Harmonica at it's best, old school street busking and darth vader. Can't beat it if you tried. Thanks for all you do Adam!!

  • What a great sound especially for being outside!! Nice jam, and love when the guy comes up and sings, been in some bars where guys are drunk and try to grab the mike you almost got to punch them out to get them out there.

  • I`m speechless.

Every clip which is published with this raw Satan & Adam Content is a real pearl, a Mojo jewel with power and real blues feelings. It is good to know that your passion is to keep the blues alive.

    Greetings from Münster,
