looks like a high school play backdrop. I thought the Germans had good color cameras? Even their gun cameras are no match to our color films of stafing etc. ? What gives, were the films stolen and kept secret or something.
a few month ago i read the book - i try to get a german one but this fails...only one in the web was to get (more than 120 euro) and so i found one in amazone england for a few euros - it was (for me as a german) a great worth-while experience to read it..
Bravo! I was sceptical at first, but after watching it, I think this is an excellent video, which does justice to Knocke's facinating written account. Very well done!
Oh! May God bless all those men of the Mighty Eighth Bombers who flew and died against the German fighters...Especially to the first Liberator that was taken down by Knoke!!!
In 1943 the German fighters could still be loudmouthed. That suddenly changed when US bomber formations were accompanied by US fighter pilots on their side. This bumpy amateur 'movie' shows how the Germans really needed to be totally kicked in the ass until they lost their trousers definitely. It's no wonder you had to go back until 1943 to show some effective attacks... LOL
Great video!I was wondering why the Luftwaffe had chosen the Messerschmitt as the main fighter plane? It was a training plane at first ,after that they converted it to a fighter plane. They had very good engineers and a good engine manufacturer. Why didn't they work on a better plane like FW190.?
my grand grand some grandad was a pilot in the german army. he flew a bf 109. his dads grandad lived in estonia then his dad moved to germany. he became a pilot there. after the war he came back to estonia.
That was a nice work. Awesome. But I have my doubts that the J- and H versions of the B-24 Liberator was yet in service in 1943. 1944 would match better.
@academicusprecarius Well spotted, you are correct, the 8th USAF used the D version in 1943 (without the nose turret). Unfortunately the flight simulator did not have this version available
So just out of curiosity, did anyone in our airforce or UK's airforce get charged for war crimes? For bombing civilian targets, killing millions of German civilians.
That is just impressive madness, by all contendors. Well, now days the crisis are maintaining its financial form. The germans ´re just helping the rest of Europe. At least no one is thinking about bombing the hell out of their home land...
This is beautifully done. I've been intrigued with the Luftwaffe, Heer, and Waffen SS since childhood, and to see you put together this film using 1946 (I play this also) and meld it is a feat in its own. I even showed this to my father, and he was blown away. Thank you for the fine film. Also, I'd hate to ask but what music did you choose when the pilots sortie at about 1:30? I'd really be delighted to have that play for my own sorties.
I never heard "bombs be dropped on formation" by ME 109, how could this be possible? With that load you must be above the formation at what feet? It is impossible (I think) to go that big with that load. Then comes the timer release which calculating the distance and time is hunky dori. I think this part was a lie or wishful thinking.
@healer378 Knoke " invented " this method and they had limited successes. The Bf109's had to climb high above the bombers at a certain altifude difference and then drop the bomb with a time delayed fuse. When the bombers were eventually escorted all the way by fighters the Germans discarded the Bf109 bombing because of vulnirability to these fighters caused by the heavy bomb.
@biltongbru The further plan of bombing bomber formations has been to use Thermobaric bombs, also as anti-aircraft artillery granates, because one of these bombs (ca. 50kg) could take heavy effects in ranges up to 4 kilometer. The project is also known as "Lufttorpedo - Airtorpedo", developed by Mario Zippermayr. Even today Thermobaric bombs are the biggest non nuke bombs (Moab).
@healer378 This was indeed tried By Heinz Knoke with good results. He wanted to try this method of bombing the Möbelwagens (Furniture Vans=four engined bombers). The bombs had delayed action fuses, causing explosions in the center of the bomber formations. The Luftwaffe also tried the opposite, flying under the bomber formations and shooting upwards with fixed mounted guns in a 65-90 degree angle. This worked also, as a bomber had few guns shooting downwards. This was called Shräge Music. (Jazz)
@Weibkoln You little knuckle heads make me laugh. Thermal (heat) seeking (infrared detection) technology didn't exist during WWII. A little more READING and less uneducated commenting would serve you well.
@Weibkoln No the pilots don't lie! Some of the people watching the videos are complete idiots. But then they TRY to comment anyway, using facts that they make up............but fail because they're completely clueless. Get it? No, probably not there Welbkoln. It must be hard for you, having to live with a fart for a brain.
No, its true. Bombs were dropped to many formations by Heinz Knoke and they did cause serious damage to the bombers. But I dont think that Knokes war memoirs are called "I flew for the Fuhrer" I have read the Finnish translation of the book and its titled "The great hunt." In the book Knoke says that he didnt fight for any political party or fuhrer, he fought for Germany.
@biltongbru This is absolutely first class, a brilliant effort, very clever. I have heard of Heinz Knoke's book, I will definitely be purchasing a copy. Well done!

If I may ask, Do you remember what song is used on the take-off scene, believe it starts at 1:36 and ends at 2:47? I've heard it before, but cannot remember where it is from. Thank you.

@biltongbru Thank you for these videos. Heinz Knoke is a cousin of my grandfather (who himself served in USN during WWII). At last a fantastic representation of the 'other side'. regardlass of politics these men were extreamly brave in a awful collision of men, Great story mate 5/5!!. Shame is when hollywood gets within spitting distance of such interesting stories. all that remains is styalised rubbish!.
You need to read Graf and Grislowski and do the same thing, captivating stories. keep going!!!
@Sharpp01 I guess it would be an understatement to say we are all mightily impressed with this video(s). The amount of material that could be put on the silver screen from this war is endless. Incredible stories from all sides, especially in the air war. I think the days of Hollywood rule are somewhat over. Some independent will produce a nice piece on one of these guys. I'd love to help.
Great work buddy, I had never seen anything edited this way before, and also a great way to use a game engine to produce a valuable historical reconstruction! 5 stars, keep up the good work!
They flew high above the formation and dropped time fused bombs. The Germans had limited successes with this method and was discarded especially when the Allies started with fighter escorts.
Very cool and very well made, the only bad thing about it (which, is just a small bad thing in a whole lot of awesome) is the german voice actor over-acting, or overplaying
Loved the in-cockpit shots, espec from heavies showing 109s slashing through. Follows the text so well, really brings it to life. Some good mission building in there, too, espec the formation bombing attack.
Composites are very well done, pilots getting into planes looks v convincing. Scenery looked a bit S.Afr to me though :)
Quite affecting scene of B24 crew going down sans chute.

@biltongbru Thank you for these videos. Heinz Knoke is a cousin of my grandfather (who himself served in USN during WWII). The old, worn paperback was shared among family members, until the re-published hardback came out. Heinz was almost poetic in some of his descriptions, and your videos have brought that to life. My family have enjoyed watching these.
His most touching entry, to me, is from 12 October 1940 where the pilots are flying the new 109 and his friend dies.
Thank you!

They Bombed the Formation? How?
tassoss1 2 years ago
They flew high above the formation and dropped time fused bombs. The Germans had limited successes with this method and was discarded especially when the Allies started with fighter escorts.

Are the terrain textures substituted in or are they a mod from AAA?

Very cool and very well made, the only bad thing about it (which, is just a small bad thing in a whole lot of awesome) is the german voice actor over-acting, or overplaying
HeroSwe 2 years ago
I disagree, it adds very defined character, makes it seem truly German.

Absolutely beautiful video (as well ad your others), Tinus.
I work in the entertainment industry (television production) in Los Angeles and must say this is about as good as it gets.
I would love to work with you producing a documentary about my late father's B-24 bomb group in WWII.
Congratulations on wonderful videos.

Please PM me on your ideas?

Hey Tinus and thank you for getting back to me. I appreciate it.
Have you ever thought about doing a WWI video using Rise of Flight flight sim?
Where do you get all the authentic uniforms and flight gear for your videos? Really enjoy the authenticity you put into your work.
Thanks again for sharing.

Ausge-f##king-zeichnet!
Looking forward to part 2!
