If you have the other admin account than you can reset the main administrator password. If you don't have the other admin account than you can use the reset disk.

If you don't have the reset disk than you can use software called Password Resetter. The Main Purpose of this software is to remove windows password. You can get the software from

I put in a recovery disk to copy over the dll from the recovery disk to the HDD but I couldn't. He doesn't know his admin's password, and you can't do it from any other account. Anavrin, if you try this on a user that's not an administrator, it doesn't work. If you don't want people to access your windows machine, DON'T SET YOUR ADMIN PASSWRD TO NOTHING, and DON'T GIVE THEM ADMINISTRATIVE ACCESS. Windows security doesn't suck, you just don't know how to use it. It's like having a car with a really good alarm system - it's useless if you don't lock the damn thing.

If u wanna really "bypass" boot the computer from an old xp image on thumb drive or cdrom, run setup up and cancel; from command prompt type netuser "youraccountname" then an asterisk, change the pass to what ever you choose, no admin account or elevated permissions needed. The key is booting to cmd prmpt, not recovery cmd prompt. Recovery console doesn't allow regular cmd prompt function calls

urrrrrrrrrr wrong. this command on both xp and vista is only accessible to an already administrative account. the reason this works for you is simply because your account type is administrator not general user. also when the tab appears requesting permission it worked for you because administrators on xp automatically don't need to comfirm administrative requests because well... they're administrators, however on vista even if you are logged in as administrator you will need to confirm, request.
