Do chickens eat so much vegetation that they would consume all of my grass? Also do they ear rats? I am thinking about starting to raise backyard chickens. Also will they peck at my young tree trunks? Thank you!
If there are too many chickens on a given plot, then they certainly can eat all the grass... but with proper flock density, no problem at all... they don't eat tree trunks, but can dig in the roots for a dust bath and that can be a problem if you allow it to continue... you're welcome.... they eat baby mice, not full grown rats...
I'm all up for free-range chickens and their eggs, it's the only way they should be kept and raised. I'm not a vegetarian but will only eat chicken if I know it's free-range and rarely eat red meat now. Documentaries on factory-kept animals gets you thinking so deeply and carefully about animals and food, not to mention the process the former goes through before it becomes the latter.
