  • This video is straight up LIE. This is communist propaganda , if Hong Kong culture is really slowly fading due to becoming more westernized as they claim, then what happened to the previous150 something years when it was DIRECTLY ruled and run as a international trading port by a WESTERN (Brits) empire, whereas now it's handed back to a ULTRA CONSERVATIVE CHINESE REGIME, where the hell is the source of strengthened westernization coming from, isn't it supposed to be fading instead !?!?

  • this goddam video must have been made by CCTV or mislead pro-Mainland ideal youth.

Once again, Mainlanders DO NOT represent the Chinese soul.

"in a mix of cultural differences, it is clear that the traditional chinese values have been affected by foreign population"

    "local life is fading"

    "westernization"

What the hell? As if that's a bad thing? the world is always moving forward, stop being a whack sentimentalist like those jackass who says a new skyscraper will ruin the Manhattan skyline.

  • How come they left that little girl dying ? She was 2 don't think it will be ignored. EVERYONE LOOK UP CHINESE GIRL RAN OVER TWICE AND 19 people ignored her smh.

  • @ThickgothGirlX wtf!!! That didnt happen in Hong Kong. It was in Mainland China.

  • i don't see why people dislike this.

  • @ReturnOfJackDawson cause it's bitter BS

  • Some questions (the old "Mickey Mouse" women) are longer than the answers, and are formulated in a way that can only influence the answers

  • Is "westernization" or "globalization" the worse threat to local culture, or is it "mainlandization" ?

I hope Hong Kong will be able to preserve Cantonese and Traditionnal Characters over Mandarin and Simplified characters for example. Both are slowly making their way.

As for the video, as some pointed, the interview of a foreign resident since SIX month is not very informative when it comes to the question of evolution over the last decades or more.

  • (lol sorry you have the read the bottom post first)

what about the less tangible traditions like ancestral rites, filial piety, confucian ethics and ideas, religion, festivals and customs , the use of language, yum cha , etc the list can be quite long!

once again thankyou for sharing this video =) very interesting but i think it can be more in depth!

  • I agree that hk is hybrid of chinese culture and western culture... and that western influences has greatly changed hong kong people's lifestyle

however i feel that this video focuses only on the changes within hong kong culture but hardly touches on how it retains a large part of its chinese heritage and culture

I find it unconvincing when D'shawn said that "I know that tradiational stuff in hong kong is slwoly fading like open air markets"

  • Great job !! very interesting video guys !!

Sorry but some of the interviewee's perspective of "traditional chinese culture" is just so sterotyped! " kung fu , tai chi in the morning" ,"we used to make our own toys" etc.

And how can someone that has spent only 6 months in hk can say " i think the local life is slowly fading"? what does he mean by local life?
