It would've been a great to tune to march to! It tells of a soldier coming home on leave to his girl. Nothing political or National Socialist about it. The photo of Hitler shouldn't even be in there! It is an excellent piece of music.

One of my relative was in the Red Guards. He escaped to Russia after the civil war. Guess what happend to him? Guess? Was shot by a russian NKVD man. The poor bastard was accused of separatism.

He was my grandfathers brother.
How did I get the information? They told his wife in the 1950s after Stalin died what had happen. I was able to contact his wife in the 1990s after USSR collapsed. She was very old but she remembered it all.

Thank you for posting this. I saw Judgement at Nuremberg ages ago and never forgot the tone of this song, how grand and proud it sounded. I saw it again tonight after many years and thanks to You Tube and it's posters I can enjoy it anytime.
By the way, I'm not a Nazi supporter. My parents were taken from Ukraine and forced to work in German labor camps. My interest in this is pure musical enjoyment.

The song is from 1910. Many things that were once legitimate were adopted by the nazis and bastardized for ever. The song is one example, another is the so called "Swastika" which is actually a native American symbol depicting the wheel of life. Many of the artists and philosophers -whose work was coveted and bastardized by the nazis -would have renounced Hitler and his band of lurid maniacs had they been alive during that time. This isn't a Nazi song. It was sung in 1910 by soldiers of the Imperial German army. It is linked to National Socialism because it was used in the movie "Judgment at Nuremberg"--which is a well acted movie full of historical errors.
