@jondiorio Also keep in mind the Blue Angels' jets are stripped of anything unneeded on the ouside of the plane such as the pylons that hold munitions so they are ultra smooth which produces a weaker boom at mach 1. Thats why on Mythbusters nothing really broke even at mach 1 @200 feet.

@speed66demon Uhh, I think I read that correct. If so, you are right. There are a number of factors exactly where the barrier is of "supersonic". Temperature is definitely one of them. Aren't you really referring to altitude, not necessarily closer to the ground? Temp. difference would be the greatest near the ground. You can be right next to the ground at 10k ft. and the "supersonic" speed is lower than it would be right over land, at sea level.
@speed66demon I don't know about this clip, but I thought fleet week is held on a navy base. They can go supersonic on military bases, other restrictions have to be observed, and followed. That is why their shows over watter are better. They are pretty much allowed to go supersonic, and other reasons like stability of the air, etc. They can do things they are not allowed to do over land!
@jondiorio MGOB has it right. A pilot could/would loose his wings for going supersonic that low. He was, However, high subsonic. You can see the vapor, or as I call it, the Halo forming. Just because there is a cloud has nothing to do with the sound barrier. This is subsonic. Mach 1 is restricted with the exception of an emergency or over the ocean.
The cloud doesn't meen its super sonic thats simply a vapor cloud, that ocures near supersonic but i do believe this is supersonic because of how late the noise was, if it was supersonic it was just at the speed of the sound barrier not mutch faster.

when fleet happens in SF the blue angels fly right over my house for a week. and i mean right over it. i could see their underbellies! they always fly in the same formation. four jets in a dimond pattern followed by two jets spead out. but the last two jet's seem the loudest imo!

That was NOT super sonic. FAA regulations do not permit supersonic flight over populated areas. Plus, I have been witness to many sonic booms while deployed and that was no where near what its like.
People won't go deaf from the concussion, its because of city/county noise ordinances. You have to be 10mi offshore or 10,000+ ft up usually and even then it is frowned upon.
That was awesome! I was about 130 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, fishing at a rig, and two jets went by. They were pretty far up, but it sounded like 2 cannons going off. I was freaking out. Then we looked up and saw the two jets going over. Pretty sick

When you see the transonic condensation, its speed is transonic (mach 0.99)
When you hear BOOOOOOM
It goes supersonic (mach 1.00+)
Above rule is easier to understand then to puzzle with altitude and temperatures.
Supersonic speed is lower at higher altitudes. The higher density the matter is sound travels trough, the faster it travels trough it.
Water is more dense then air, so sound travels faster trough it.

Just because there is a cloud has nothing to do with the sound barrier. This is subsonic. Mach 1 is restricted with the exception of an emergency or over the ocean.

The cloud doesn't meen its super sonic thats simply a vapor cloud, that ocures near supersonic but i do believe this is supersonic because of how late the noise was, if it was supersonic it was just at the speed of the sound barrier not mutch faster.

@LordReaper117 cool!I have never been in a aircraft tbh lol most of my family has served in the Navy with my grandpa on top at 51 years and was an excecutive at corry station in Pensacola where I live at.I think it sucks arse though it would be awesome to fly a plane and I admire anyone who does but I never will due to seizures,other problems have to be off meds and seizure free for five years before I can join the marines or the military at all if I remember right..

when fleet happens in SF the blue angels fly right over my house for a week. and i mean right over it. i could see their underbellies! they always fly in the same formation. four jets in a dimond pattern followed by two jets spead out. but the last two jet's seem the loudest imo!

if it was supersonic, youd be complaining about not hearing.....plus, the shock cone is only there from the moister in the air passing over the plane at near mach 1 speed. that doesnt indicate a sonic boom......many plane go super sonic without any visible shock cone

actually i believe the fastest they are allowed is .96 mach which is almost breaking the sound barrier, but still producing the air pocket and the sound traveling behind them but without the sonic boom

its not super sonic in this vid. its trans sonic and mythbusters isnt a accurate source of information. sonic booms within certain distances such as the distance represented in this video would in fact blow out windows... point of fact, the FAA regulates airshows and aircraft military or not are not allowed to break the speed of sound over any population. the only place in the U.S. they can is edwards air force base on the range used for red flag.

That was NOT super sonic. FAA regulations do not permit supersonic flight over populated areas. Plus, I have been witness to many sonic booms while deployed and that was no where near what its like.

People won't go deaf from the concussion, its because of city/county noise ordinances. You have to be 10mi offshore or 10,000+ ft up usually and even then it is frowned upon.

That was awesome! I was about 130 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, fishing at a rig, and two jets went by. They were pretty far up, but it sounded like 2 cannons going off. I was freaking out. Then we looked up and saw the two jets going over. Pretty sick

@azziplekkus It wasnt a sonic boom. If it was a sonic boom, most of the windows in the area in a half square mile wouldve blown out, and eardrums wouldve blown out. You cant SEE a sonic boom. Boom=sound/shockwave. The FAA only allows people to legaly fly supersonic in certain areas, and around thousands of people in a populated area isnt one of them. So get your facts straight.

Sonic booms breaking windows is most definitely a fact, and has been observed many many many times, including 150+ broken windows in Oklahoma City in 1964 during supersonic transit viability tests. And did you even watch the entire Mythbusters episode? The window BLEW OUT.
And its true, you can only fly supersonic in certain areas, including over the ocean, which is what the Concord did.

@azziplekkus He has his facts right. They figured out that it WILL blow out a window that is in a pane, and the flexing breaks it. And you obviously don't fly do you? The Concorde flew supersonic in class A airspace, and over an ocean, which is above 18000 feet. (In a CERTAIN area).

@whitesnake123ify : what you saw was vapor caused by the heavy air at sea level. You see it all the time from subsonic aircraft. You cannot "see" a sonic boom. Do you fly? I do and I am correct on this. There are many things I do not know but I do know what a sonic boom is and this was no one. God bless.

@shanoobaboo91 : With all due respect you are wrong on this matter. I am a veteran of the USAF and I have heard many sonic booms. This was NOT one of them. I even went back and played the video again and although the jet is LOUD there is NO sonic boom. At that altitude had there been a sonic boom not only would it be very evident the cameraman would have felt the shock wave and the camera would have shaken big time. God bless.

NOT true... in 2000 I went to fleet week in the same spot, and they did go above the speed of sound because I remember boat owners complaining on the news of all sorts of broken windows on their rigs...
