  • In the 1940's we rode the Lehigh Valley Black Diamond from Newark to Hazleton. The main train ended at Mauk Chunk and a gasoline engine went over the Board Mountain into Hazleton. The conductor yelled the next town. He pronounce Weatherly (Wah-tha-lee). It was a wonderful train. I also rode the Super Chief to Chicago when I was in the Navy. Later the Illinois Central (city of New Orleans) all wonderful trains

  • Nice video

  • The death of the LV and other railroads is the result of the air and highway lobby running transportation policy for the US. They still are!

Did you know there was a tax on train tickets untill 1965? All the money was spent on airports and highways!

  • Nice video on the Lehigh Valley. But I want to add a few things, being a Lehigh fan myself. One of the major business corridors was Buffalo-Philadelphia which was run in conjunction with the Reading. The other thing is..Lehigh was in business till about 1992. They just stopped running trains in 1976. Conrail did not merge into LV. They just got assets that they wanted. Lehigh stayied in business untill about 1992 selling assets of the corporation.

  • Awesome song!

  • Very Nice vid CountVonBoco (LVman)
