To describe the fact that Ezio and Altaitr both have eagle vision, I think of the family tree like a diamond, at the top of the diamond are the people from before who have the ability, then on the left is Altair and on the right is Ezio, and finally Desmond at the bottom, who is related to all three. thumbs up so the writers can use this as an excuse or something!

In a similar fashion, these artifacts (or keys to the Masyaf library) allow Ezio to relive memories that are enscribed into the artifact, so it does not have to be his ancestor. As you know, the bleeding effect caused Desmond to see Ezio (in the villa in brotherhood) and also relive Altair's sex scene with
templar woman. In the same way, Ezio is experiencing Altair even while he is not holding (or in contact with) the Masyaf Keys. He is able to experience Altair without the direct means to do so (the key/animus) due to the bleeding effect! Hope that answers your question!

thought i'd sum things up, they aren't related like great...great...grandpa they're related like cousins i suppose. They are both related to people of the ancient order meaning they are related but in a sense not like family reunion sorta related. Ezio learns of altair, but is learning about him because he is one of the other greats. They are related!
They just recently decided to do this, I'm pretty sure when ac2 came ezio and Altair were related but the new projects "new games" get new developers/ writers they bring there own ideas to the mix.

@TEB01144 I don't think eagle vision is exclusive to just one bloodline. It's implied that at some point, humans and the members of the first civilizations began mingling, and that any human descended from those unions have the potential for eagle vision.
As for Ezio seeing Altair, we know that at certain points in the game, Ezio will use these artifacts to relive parts of Altair's life. It could be a side effect of using those artifacts, similar to the bleeding effect Desmond suffers.
If eagle vision is past through bloodline and ezio and altair are not related either there was more than one bloodline breeded with those who came before or their was some insest going on

I always thought the main assassins didn't need to be related to eachother to be related to Desmond, but just like many people, I thought Mario stated Altaïr was Ezio's ancestor in AC II. I did have a feeling the assassin from AC III would be from a different branch though.

@ItTastesGood It's not a birthmark, but a scar. We see Ezio get it in the opening fight of AC2, but I think they have it there to also make them all seem like the same person, or to show a connection. Know what I mean? Like when Desmond referred to himself as Ezio (or was at least confused by it) during the beginning of ACB when he sees the ghosts escaping the villa.

Eagle vision was also not specified to a single bloodline. Giovanni Borgia had it and it's strongly suggested Francesco did as well, since he's the one who showed Giovanni how to use it. Both were assassins born into the order.
It makes sense that Ezio and Altair aren't related in a sense, there's only roughly 100 years between them, that's only one generation between Ezio and Altair.
Also, Eagle Vision is a '6th sense' that was passed on through Assassin's that were born into the order, meaning these were assassins that were descedents of, quite literally, Adam and Eve, hybrid 'God'/Humans.
What distresses me more is that Desmond is the only modern day assassin that seems to possess this skill still.
@warhawksxaid Between Altair's death (1257) and Ezio's birth (1458), that's only 200 years actually. That's still only 2-3 generations, really not enough to get rid of the middle Eastern distinction.

The templar's couldn't find Ezio's PoE, so they kidnapped Desmond to view Altair's memories and see where all the other PoE were located. If 16 could view those memories, they would never have needed Desmond in the first place.

I always thought the main assassins didn't need to be related to eachother to be related to Desmond, but just like many people, I thought Mario stated Altaïr was Ezio's ancestor in AC II. I did have a feeling the assassin from AC III would be from a different branch though.

@ItTastesGood It's not a birthmark, but a scar. We see Ezio get it in the opening fight of AC2, but I think they have it there to also make them all seem like the same person, or to show a connection. Know what I mean? Like when Desmond referred to himself as Ezio (or was at least confused by it) during the beginning of ACB when he sees the ghosts escaping the villa.

And if Domenico Auditore was from venice its likely his farther could have lived in constantinopel which could have been where Maria thorpe and her child went... And ezio uses AltaIirs sword how did his family get it? And he used Marias dagger... And the Eagle sense and so on could only be inherited in direct bloodline if i understood right... So they must be related!

@Chrissaful Just because someone has someone else's stuff, doesn't mean they're related. ._. I own a custom made, preowned dagger from India, that doesn't mean I'm related to it's original owner.
Eagle vision was also not specified to a single bloodline. Giovanni Borgia had it and it's strongly suggested Francesco did as well, since he's the one who showed Giovanni how to use it. Both were assassins born into the order.

It makes sense that Ezio and Altair aren't related in a sense, there's only roughly 100 years between them, that's only one generation between Ezio and Altair.
Also, Eagle Vision is a '6th sense' that was passed on through Assassin's that were born into the order, meaning these were assassins that were descedents of, quite literally, Adam and Eve, hybrid 'God'/Humans.
What distresses me more is that Desmond is the only modern day assassin that seems to possess this skill still.

@warhawksxaid Between Altair's death (1257) and Ezio's birth (1458), that's only 200 years actually. That's still only 2-3 generations, really not enough to get rid of the middle Eastern distinction.

@ParanoidToaster Shaun wasn't born into the order though meaning there's a very good chance that he would not have a bloodline of Assassins, at least not relevant enough to show any signs of Eagle Vision. Besides, his 'gift' he was refering to was his uncanny historical and information abilities... he's just a bit of an egotisical bastard with it. ;)

@jasonvdw24 Where do they say that 16 relived Altair's memories....? Far as I can tell, he never did. That's why Desmond came into play. The templar's couldn't find Ezio's PoE, so they kidnapped Desmond to view Altair's memories and see where all the other PoE were located. If 16 could view those memories, they would never have needed Desmond in the first place.

Ubisoft continually states that Ezio is on a quest for revelations into the Assassins, and by doing so he finds and unlocks keys, I think six of them, which act as a precursor to the Animus meaning that it doesnt tap into Ezio's dna, but rather shows glimpses of important moments into Altiar's lives.
