when I use too do mix tapes back in the day, I use too put this song on them and people would always ask about this song. most people didn't know that they had the song.
After hearing this song, I thought about my father, who hasn't been in my life for 15 and half years. Thanks, yhu Janet for songs you record, it about todays problems
I had to buy the "MIss You Much" maxi-single cassette (yeah that doesn't exist anymore) in order to get my own copy of that record because KISS-FM NYC 98.7 FM always had that fuckin' V.I.M. and Crazy Eddie commercials segue into either the beginning or the ending of that joint.
This was supposed to be the follow up to Control called :Family', right? i remember getting this on the flip side of a Rhythm Nation single. That and there was another song called SKIN GAME.
Just imagine the look on Joseph's face when he first heard this :-0 lol... just shows That Miss. Jackson fears no 1............ LOVE YA JANET!!! This is my new theme song
@nick34bart This should have been released on 1814 after STATE OF THE WORLD!!!! LOVE THIS TRACK, they should have made an extended remix to this and broke down the instruments and vocals and stuff!!!!!
She wrote it because she was sick and tired of relying on her father.
She "Needed" Him but the tables soon turned when she became a global superstar and He relied on her financially (That Money Hungry Father!) and emotionally.
Joe relied on his children especially Janet and Michael ever since they're careers were powerful..they were huge!
This was on the b side of some singles of Miss you Much or one of the other Rhythm Nation singles, when it was released back in the ancient 80's. Still sounds like hotness to me.
*NSYNC and Backstreet Boys tore a page out of the glorious book of Janet Jackson. Listen to this and then go listen to *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys songs. They created their songs the same way Janet's are.
janet and michael :) yeah those years everyone was into boybands, janet and michael already had my heart and I listened to them instead and laughed at others my age
i remember when they played this on the radio, love u jj. listen the lyrics are so profound. she talks about joe jackson and her mom. this song is deep
Damn shame for this entire album and b-sides to be 20 yrs old and still sound as fresh as the day it was released. Goes to show how boring and even plastic the music out now has become.
I think it's funny alot of people don't know about this song. It was the B-side to the Miss You Much single. I'm glad i'm not the only one who still have this and can still rock to this awsome song.
i think she did fear him and her only way of expressing that was through this song.....after control the record company wanted her to record an album called "scandal" which was to be about the family and all of the controversy......janet, jimmy, and terry went a long with it......and recorded this song........but they felt it wasnt right and went into another direction and we got "rhythm nation"
I didn't think many people listen too this. I used too put this on all my mixed tapes, everyone use too think this was a song that wasn't released in th U.S. I didn't bother correcting them, oh well. Keep up the good work missjanetmixes.
Damn finally found it I have been looking for this song since forever I had this on cassette years ago!!!

Brilliant stuff!
Joseph was and still is someone no one can understand or grow to love.
'Tell me that you need me! Tell me that you love me!'
He never - EVER told them he loved them. Never hugged them. Never cared for them but as moneymakers. Sad really.

This was to be included on an album they were gonna call "Scandalous", which was supposed to be all her personal feelings about her family.
That idea got thrown out and "Rhythm Nation" was made instead.
