  • The store nearby hear only has aluminum with small sizes (Susan Bates brand) and the bigger sizes in the plastic type, or in the Susan Bates brand aluminum bigger sizes but they are the really long hooks. Would you recommend me sticking with the aluminum even though to get the bigger size its a long hook or should I go to the plastic ones?

  • Can u do a tutorial on the speed hook ( S size hook)?

  • I bought Boye hooks and was having the same problems with yarn splitting. It was so frustrating, and of course when I got frustrated my crochet work got tighter and made splits happen even more, lol.

  • and what do recommend for begginners hooks

  • i meant to say what hooks are good with begginners ( type and size )

  • @MegaGabyLOL I leared with a Boye size "J" hook. Now I like the "Bates" style hook better, but some folks like the boye style. You should use a hook size that would fit your yarn. For medium worsted (#4) yarn, an I (5.5 mm) or a J (6 mm) would work.

  • how much did the cheapest hook cost

  • Did I miss something at the end? The video cuts off abruptly just as you were talking about the Tunisian style hooks.

  • @dreamchaser7177 Sorry I did not find a good editing point there. I was rambling and cut it there.

  • @Bethintx1 Lol, ok. I was really getting interested in it. Perhaps you could do a video at some point with more of that detailed info that was cut out :) Great videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

  • How much do the boye and susan bates hook cost?

  • Do you prefer the Susan Bates hooks or the Clover hooks??

  • @Moerox666 sometimes. It depends on the project. I like the grip of the clover and how light weight they are. Plus there size is clearly printed on the handle. But sometimes I prefer the Bates. The Bates hook is more defined so I drop stitches less than with the clover.

  • Great video talking about crochet tools. I love that topic. You talk about the tools in great detail. I love to use aluminum crochet hooks myself. My favorite is Boye and the 2nd favorite is Susan Bates. Most projects I crochet, I use aluminum because most patterns in books recommend using alluminum. I would use plastic hooks from susan bates and lion brand on the bigger size hooks . When it comes to the larger hooks in Susan Bates, they run big in size than Boye. Thanks.

  • What kit where you talking about? Could you get me a link to the video(if there is)?

  • @GarudaMoYe2010 I'm not sure which kit it came with. I've been crocheting since I was 11. I'm almost 45 now! I had several kits through the years. I don't remember !

(It may be my age!) LOL! It could have been a kids crochet kit or even a weaving loom set.

  • how do u even crochet rows?

  • @GarudaMoYe2010 Look at the related videos on the right...there is a back to basics, holding the hook & yarn that includes making the slip knot, then the next video is Back to basics crochet, single crochet row 1 of the sampler scarf.

The play list is on my channel page. It has the list of back to basics videos in order. Or you can follow the order by clicking on the video response in the comments section.

  • Why would we need a yarn needle?

  • @GarudaMoYe2010 to weave in the ends of yarn (aka tails) when you finish.

  • Great information. Thanks.

  • this is a great video! thanks!

  • Thank You!

  • Wow, this is going to be great. I have never heard of the Susan Bates. Maybe I just never noticed. I do like the way the shaft looks on it though and you are right the Boye does split the yarn. lol. Thanks.
